I am curious to know if anyone else remembers the Tail of The Bull bar outside the main gate at MCAS El Toro? This was a great place nothing fancey, and they catered to Marines. Pay day tabs were the norm and no Marine got turned down unless they had a bad re pay history. Also the best fried chicken that I have had in my life. I remember the owner well his name was Lyle and he of course was a retired Marine. This place was as much fun as the Habu pit on Oki.

Jim, I was at El Toro before I headed out for Nam but I can't remember a bar (I didn't drink back then) anywhere in the area. All I remember are the orange groves-everywhere! Not much help on this end but good morning to you anyway. Have the rains receded over your way?

Yeah Toby yesterday was the first day in 23 that it didnt rain buckets. It was 28 degrees when I went to work and 68 degrees when I went to lunch but a very nice day almost spring like. Today is supposed to be the same but they forecast another storm for saturday. And oh yeah I remember the orange groves well.

that were always there in their skin tight white short shorts, waiting for Marines to get liberty.
Oh, wait a minute, that was at OKi
The only time I was at El Toro, was on June 13th, 1967 waiting to load on board a Golden bird, headed for the land of no postage stamps.

In 84-85 there was the Iron Mule out the back gate. After closing the group would go out to a bonfire and continue festivities.

I was at El Toro only 3 weeks processing to go overseas, so I didn't get there, but a buddy of mine moonlighted there as a cook.
Anyone remember The Big Wheel on N. Main in Santa Ana? That's where I spent most of the 3 weeks. I heard later it burned down.
