Thinking back what was it about the Marine Corps that made you decide to join?

For me it was the dicipline and for the fact I was a Marine Brat.. Seeing what it was all about and being apart of it in a different way. I thought back then it was the best thing to do.. I will never regret it a day in my life..

Family pride I guess. Relatives in everything from WW2 on. Strong patriotism and would not even consider another branch. I'm the only Marine in the family.

Don't regret it either. I was so determined to go I sign my papers at my 17 th b-day party and still had 9 months before i graduated.

you REALLY wanna know? REALLY?

first, I was and am a very patriotic person.
second, the Marine Corps was the only one I thought I COULDN'T do, so I had to try.
third? well, I was a pretty depressed kid, and didn't see much point in the future, so I thought at least by serving, there my death would have some meaning.

Typical me, I screwed up and managed to survive LOL. Now I have had to WORK for a living ;)

LOL@ Jedi.. Those are good reasons.. I told my husband that when we have kids, Marines all the way.. LOL.. Actually I honestly belive that everyone out of highschool should have to spend some time in the military. I dont think the world would be the way that it is if they did.. They would learn respect, they would learn honor, they would learn what commitment was all about.

I agree FM89. I have always thought we shou;d have mandatory federal service for people from the ages of 18-20. for the same reasons.

When I was with the volunteer section it was on a full time FD.. I got certified as a first responder so dont know if that will do me any good when I get out there.. I told hubs it will be a good way for me to spend my spare time. I loved it when I did it back in NC..

I know what you mean.. I can remember when I was going thru the training at the fire dept.. I can remember being the only female in the classes.. I had a guy that was sitting next to me in classes and he always told me.. dont let them discourage you.. I said no way.. Then he found out that I was a Marine and he realized that I was in for the duration..

We just put 2 through the last academy here. running 4 person squads at the burn building I had to laugh, cause I could dig em for whining, 3 guys 1 girl and she was the only one on the 3rd floor not crying about the heat.

OH did i mention they were crawling on the floor for less then 5 mins and i was standing up in there for the entire evolution probably 20 mins

Both my Grandpa's (WW11)and two Uncles(Pease time)were in the Army and one Uncle(Vietnam) was in the Navy. I was in 8th grade and decided I would join the Army. My the time I was a senoir in high school I talked to a family friend who just happened to be in the Marine Corps and was very impressed. So after talking with my parents, I was 17) I went to the recruiter and signed up for the DEP. The Marine Corps I just can't explain it. It fulls you will pride that even after being out for 16 years I still feel same feeling I did before and I joined and everytime I see the adverisment ""THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE MARINES. Oh, I also wanted to show every one in My 1 horse town that I could do something no other female has done in that town.

The Marines are the best. :marine:

I joined the Marine Corp because it was the best. I wanted to be part of that. This was just before Vietnam was on the TV every day. I never heard of Vietnam until I got to boot camp. I would do it all over again in a minute. I got more out of it than I knew at the time. I still have it with me. Semper Fi !

Good for you.. Its not easy road to take.. It takes alot of courage and will power.. I think its very interesting learning what reasons different people decided on the Corps is.. I would not go back and change one moment of it.. I have a father that is filled with so much pride.. I have brothers that were too scared to do anything for their country.. Then here I come..My dad cried when I told him what I wanted to do.. It was not because he wasnt proud of me.. It was the remark that he made.. He said : I have sons that wont even do it, it wasnt ment for my baby girl to do.. But I am very proud of you.. " Very special relationship..
