Hi everyone! I'm not sure if anyone remembers me but i graduated 3 Dec out of PI. I want to thank everyone for the information i recieved here. Alot of it helped take some of the shock off of boot camp.

congrats. i remember when i graduated from O.C.S it was the greatest feeling up until i got my first assignment. then that was my greatest feeling. but make the corps proud!.

Like 15 feet away. His platoon (2105) was right next to us(2104).
He was a good guy, we did alot of runs together.

My really good friend graduated with 2nd BN. He was the one who tried to wake the recruit up who died. Said he was a good recruit and a good friend. Unfortunately, as Marines death is sometimes a fact of life. We must carry on in our mission and never forget those who went before us. Sounds like this recruit had great heart and probably would have made a great Marine. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

From what I've heard, it was complications from pneumonia. The respitory infections down on the island are pretty bad. Almost everyone gets infected during their time down there. I know I did.
That recruit died a couple days before I graduated, so I know what you're talking about.
I was 1st Bn A Co, Plt 1097.
One of these days I'll get around to re-registering, but for now PooleeWebber will have to do!

Yeah he had complications surrounding pnemonia but it was really his own fault. He did not tell the doctors he was sick and went out to the crucible anyway. It was so wet and cold in the mornings many of us got sick. Add that to pnemonia and you have a world of s**t.

I think the recruit that died may have been the cousin of one of the guys in my Platoon. He had to leave while we were out at cax...

I heard about that recruit's death from a new Marine PFC at our recent Pool Meeting, he was at PI when it happened.
Did they change anything about the Crucible because of a recruit's death?

Doubt it. Take a lesson from this: it is NOT WORTH DYING to try to get off the Island a little sooner. I'm not saying be a sickbay commando, and by all means, push yourself to your limits, but if you truly are jacked up, GO TO SICK CALL. I never had to do it, but there ARE legitimate reasons to do it (i.e. Cellulitis, which can cause you to lose limbs if allowed to progress, and is rampant on the Island during hot months). If you're a locked on recruit, it won't matter in the end.

Well, I see we have a few here back from the "Island" so to all I wish to extend my congradulations on a job well done.
It's the first step on a path that many before you have walked on.
Yes, Marines die, in battle, and in training as the recruit at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
We wish it would not have happened, but it did.
A lesson must be learned from his death, if your sick, best to seek medical aid.
No, you're not a "sick bay commando", just smart.
If your sick, you can fight or function as well as when your heathly.
If your sick in the field of battle, someone will have to carry you or your load.
So be smart and go for medical aid.

damn i am glad i didnt go to PI if they have all that sickness done there..
