Geez-I was thinking more along the lines of a good leather E-Z chair and a HDTV with a THX surround sound system. Heck, I've been pretty much good this year. I think I rate! ;)

Oh yeah, with the complete NFL Sunday ticket, so I can watch my N'awlins Saints!

YEP, a kiss on the cheek is always best for the first meeting(won't say date), and for the lip-locking, NO WAY!!!!!

Those kids don't know how to KISS, they look like they are
trying to swallow each other. They need lessons from
the one and only "Rhett Butler". Bet you thought I was gonna

And for my sisters daughter-in-law, there are several places I
wish I could send her. From Bewitched, if I had Samantha's powers, I would zap her permanently to the moon or better yet
a bit farther away like Pluto.

And there is always putting her in a pool of feeding piranhas, or
a pit of alligators or a den of hungry lions.

Now, this isn't the Christmas spirit, is it?

I wish all the best for the season and New Year.
Family, friends, good health.
Peace and prosperity in an ever more dangerous world.
Safety and safe returns for our troops fighting the global war on terrorism.

Lastly.
I wish that I could spend 1 day before I part this world with all my fellow Marines from my unit in Vietnam.
Remembering our experiences as a young generation of Marines who, like generations before and after us, gave much or all to preserve the American ideals and way of life.

Bro, years ago, I started to reach out, looking for those i served with in Vietnam. I have now located 47 of them and we try to get together every year, usually around May.

This year the platoon is getting together in Colorado, and the company I served with will be meeting in Myrtle Beach a week later.

Getting together with the platoon has been an experience all itself. Within minutes of our 1st reunion. We had captured that same friendship, joking around and warmth we shared in the rice paddy fields of South East Asia.

It will only happen if you reach out to find them. Thos of us that ahve come together now stay in touch, often.

Cook...
I've put alot of work into the thought of a reunion with the Marines I served with in 'Nam. Starting back in 1991, I spent hundreds of $$$$ on locating those Marines. Sent away for unit rosters, put an ad in Leatherneck magazine, joined the VVA, the Marine division associations, American Legion and went to work.
I was able to locate 1/2 dozen of the men that were there with me. My next step was to try to get these guys motivated to put some work into the effort. No one was interested. Oh, we shot the breeze over the phone a few times, but no one followed through. One guy's wife answered the phone and would not let me talk to him. Told me flat out that he was not interested.
I was very organized. Sent letters to all the Marines I located explaining what was needed to get us together. To search their minds, send away for rosters and use a locater to find a few men here & there.
Within a couple of months all dropped out.
Hell, I don't know. Maybe those that I located were the wrong ones to talk to. I thought that maybe I should not expect these men to have the same mind set as I concerning Vietnam.
After all, some just want to forget.
It also crossed my mind that I was in support.
Don't get me wrong. I am proud of my 19 month contribution to the effort. But when you look around it is the grunts that seem to have the greatest cohesion. And rightfully so.
When you read of (unit) reunions in the Marine Corps you mostly see those Marines who were in the worst situations. I attended a few 1st & 3rd Marine Division reunions and did not find one Marine from my unit. Only one man who sailed over to 'Nam with me on the Gen Weiggle in 1966.
You never see a "Service Company" reunion.
A know a guy who put alot of work into getting a Comm Co reunion together just recently only to have it fail because of lack of interest. A great disappointment to him.
I envy you Cook.
Still, all is good because I get alot from belonging to this (and other) Marine Corps sites and organizations and the satasfaction that I belong in my heart.

ONE MANS CHRISTMAS WISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Gift This Year....................

One year, a particular harried husband decided to buy
his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift.

The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.

When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't
used the gift I bought you last year!"

THE SANDS OF CHRISTMAS, by Michael Marks

I had no Christmas spirit when I breathed a weary sigh,
And looked across the table where the bills were piled too high.

The laundry wasn't finished and the car I had to fix,
My stocks were down another point, the Dolphins lost by six.

And so with only minutes till my son got home from school,
I gave up on the drudgery and grabbed a wooden stool.

The burdens that I carried were about all I could take,
And so I flipped the TV on to catch a little break.

I came upon a desert scene in shades of tan and rust,
No snowflakes hung upon the wind, just clouds of swirling dust.

And where the reindeer should have stood before a laden sleigh,
Eight Hummers ran a column right behind an M1A.

A group of boys walked past the tank, not one was past his teens, Their eyes were hard as polished flint, their faces drawn & lean.

They walked the street in armor with their rifles shouldered tight
Their dearest wish for Christmas, just to have a silent night.

Other soldiers gathered, hunkered down against the wind,
To share a scrap of mail and dreams of going home again.

There wasn't much at all to put their lonely hearts at ease,
They had no Christmas turkey, just a pack of MRE's.

They didn't have a garland or a stocking I could see,
They didn't need an ornament--they lacked a Christmas Tree.

They didn't have a present even though it was tradition,
The only boxes I could see were labeled "ammunition."

I felt a little tug and found my son now by my side,
He asked me what it was I feared, and why it was I cried.

I swept him up into my arms and held him oh so near,
And kissed him on the forehead as I whispered in his ear.

There's nothing wrong my little son, for safe we sleep tonight,
Our heroes stand on foreign land to give us all the right.

To worry on the things in life that mean nothing at all,
Instead of wondering if we will be the next to fall.

He looked at me as children do and said its always right,
To thank the ones who help us and perhaps that we should write.

And so we pushed aside the bills and sat to draft a note,
To thank the many far from home, and this is what we wrote:

God Bless You all and keep you safe and speed your way back home, Remember that we love you so, and that you're not alone.

The gift you give you share with all, a present every day.
You give the gift of Liberty and that we can't repay.
