Check out the link provided by Gunnyg. Compare the official Navy Photo taken of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) on September 11, 2002 with the photo in question.

I would bet MY money that the two photos were taken by the same photographer after allowing a short period of time for the troop formation to reassemble in the new design.

Gunnyg didn't comment, but I think THAT is what he had in mind.

came to me via yesterday's morning e-mail.

But it's likely been around at least a week or so, as I have also received several e-mail inquiries in the last week or so from people looking for such a Pic--this is before I ever saw the pic at all.

There was a similar pic almosta year ago in response to 9/11 and/or Afghanistan--different message in the formation, maybe a different ship.

Haven't heard anything of a hoax on this one or the prior ship pic (noted above),

Its a doctored photo. Compare the two photos below. Look at the wake patterns. The REAL picture was taken on the Anniversary of September 11th in response to President Bush telling the US Military to stand ready for future action in the war on terrorism. This was the Lincoln's response.

gruntsdotnet,

I certainly don't want to start an argument, but I have a question.

When I scan up and down on the two ships in your post, they are identical, except for the message. Identical to the point where they could be superimposed on one another.

I know that with a graphics program you can edit, modify, tilt,
turn, enlarge, reduce, etc. any viewed image.

When I compared the posted picture with the picture from the Navy website, the distance and the angle was different. Also there was a variation in the wake, which I attributed to a one minute break between snapping picture one and two.

My question is: when the image of the 2nd photo was realigned, to be identical with the first photo, would that also affect the consistancy of the wake and how it was viewed?

... with FirstSgtMike.....

I always get accused of being over critical of things, but the wake and wash from the keel are just TOO much alike, even the few shadows. While there are some minor differences in the hull wash, I think one was BRIGHTENED, or DARKENED (as the case may be), to look like a different exposure level.

But... " IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS"

Somebody tell dem fella's wit da Pizza Hut tablecloth on dar heads.... INCOMING !!!
