Marines' gift to Pathfields

THE Royal Marines at Chivenor have celebrated their birthday with a gift to the Pathfields Special school in Barnstaple.

Each year the Marines celebrate the birth of their Corps and this year the Warrant Officers and Senior Rates Mess marked the 340th anniversary with a celebratory lunch followed by a charity auction.

A wide variety of items went under the hammer and it took just 20 minutes to raise over £2,000.

The money was split equally between a charity providing livestock to farms in Africa and the Pathfields Special School in Pilton..

It will go towards providing outdoor activity equipment for the school playground.

The cheque for £1,000 was presented to the school's bursar Jenny Mitchell by the Regimental Sergeant Major of RMB Chivenor, Warrant Officer Tony Jacka.

n Pictured with them are three of the school's pupils, Adam Greenwood, Shannon Kneebone and Kyle Glover and school teacher Abigail Staff and her husband, Colour Sergeant Andy Staff of RMB Chivenor, who organised the event.
