It's interesting reading the comments others have entered.

I enclosed the following comment.

2589 here!

I fully support this Marine in protecting himself and his Marine comrades. The Marines are fighting a lawless and brainwashed enemy. Terrorists are not protected under the Geneva Convention. You should give that Marine a medal, preferably the MOH. It's ok for them to homicide bomb, behead innocent people and torture? I would have done the same exact thing, but there would be no evidence to convict me because I'd have destroyed it. To bad that reporter wasn't shot too! Embedding the media with our troops is a really dumb idea. Don't send our troops to do a job Iraqi "men" should be doing themselves and things like this won't happen. NO AMERICAN BLOOD IS WORTH ANY IRAQI'S HAVING FREEDOM, LET THEM BLEED THEIR OWN COWARDLY BLOOD, NOT OURS! LET THEM HAVE CIVIL WAR AND THE SUNNI'S WILL BE EXTERMINATED IN A MATTER OF WEEKS!

It's called anger....

and PAY-BACK Time...

reminds me, of the first time I opened up in combat...

From My Book
"Dreams of Glory," R.M. Cook Barela (C) 2004

PAY BACK
July 21, 1967
13 Miles South of Da Nang, Republic of South Vietnam

"I had concentrated the gun’s firepower toward the center of the targeted area, and only as the last fifty-forty rounds left the gun’s barrel did I begin to sweep the area just above ground level as Bro had taught me. My firing was at first, a naked response to danger, followed by disciplined military training. It was totally unlike any target practice I’d ever done. This time, it was real and dangerous, this time, it was life and death and I kept expecting bullets to come flying back at us at any moment, but they never came...

As soon as I let up, Chief, who had been firing at the enemy from a kneeling position to the left of us, quickly jumped up and burst through a small opening running in hot pursuit of the enemy. Others in 1st squad followed close behind him, and Jones and Keeton followed after them. ...

I realized that I had responded to Jones' firing, I had opened up without reservation, and had shot at the enemy in retaliation.

I had shot at an enemy whom I couldn’t see, who had killed Bro and Stoker, had wounded Turner and McIntosh, and had seized U.S. government-issued military weapons.

I realized I had opened fire on the enemy, not to help the South Vietnamese people, or because our government sent us there, but to avenge Bro’s death..."

Aside from the few from 'osamabinladen' (yep, chicken sh!ts that won't give their real name), it soumds like a landslide.

I don't know about giving him a 'medal for doing his job' as some had commented, but a ticker tape parade would probably be nice !!

I signed but let me give you some thoughts;
When that video first showed, there were some might angry that they had to see it before being notified that something was wrong through the chain of command.
That led to a big fece's pie coming from the White House to the Sec of Defense, Sec of the Navy, The Jointed Chiefs, The Commandant of the Marine Corps, CentCom Commander, 1st Marine Division Commander, 1st Marines Commander, 3rd Battalion Commander, the Company Commander and Platoon of the Marine of the petition.
All those Officers and Offical took a bite of that fece's pie and they're not happy.
They want answers, why they were not notified about the video before it aired.
There's Article 32 investigation on going at the moment.
Even the CMC has to answer on emmbedded reporters.
The embedded reporters have no chain of command and they can send back views as they happen.
Should the reporter Sities made use of common sense?
I don't think that the harm he was going to create was on his mind.
Now he stands to get a journlism award of some kind for his reporting that killing.
We question why that Marine was still there after suffering a wound to the head.
Than seeing a fellow Marine killed by a booby trap insurgent or terrorist.
When the terrorists resort to that, they lose the protection of protecting the wounded.
Making all their wounded fair game.
For that reason, they should return this Marine to his unit, treat his wounds, the one's visiable and those that don't show.
Now it's all up to the Article 32 investigation.
Wars have a way of changing character as we have seen in others and we're seeing in Iraq.
Those are my thoughts on this matter.

Semper Fidelis/Semper Fi
Ricardo

PS
I wonder if there's a petition to hang this Marine somewhere on the web.

OJ KING, MD

Yes, we are forgetting. Especially since our WWII vets are dying at a rate of 1,100 a day. Plus, with the advent of embedded reporters, comes all the politically correct rhetoric spewed by those who have never had the experience of being shot at, weeks on end without a shower, prickly heat, or the realization that you'll give all to protect those who fight with you and whom you consider family as they are all you have, even at the cost of your life or the man's life who is on the other end of your rifle. If that means 'accidentally', (term being used loosely), shooting an 'unarmed' insurgent, who moments before was trying to kill you and your boys, SO BE IT. Let alone the fact that one of his buddies pulled the same 'possum' act and killed one of your fellow Marines. Better to shoot first and ask questions later. I am not going to risk my life or the life of my Marines to worry about what some prize hungry reporter finds moral in combat.

Charlie Daniels...country/western artist has issued a letter in support of the Marine who shot the wounded prisoner. He says it is a national disgrace, not what the Marine did but what the media is doing. Quote "I don't know your name, son, but let me tell you from the bottom of my heart...no matter what they say you are a US Marine and there are millions of people who would love to shake your hand and tell you how much you are appreciated. Thanks for the info and site. I have proudly registered and supported the petition. I feel badly for any elected official who is on the wrong side of this one!!! There are many good comments and reasons why this Marine was/is justified in his actions. When he was shot, who was there to cry "foul"? I'm sure the individual(s) who shot him were not wearing uniforms that identified them as "enemies." I'm sure they took cover and concealed themselves in "sacred" places, only to point a weapon out of an open Mosque window. You can't have it both ways! If you want to use a Mosque as a sanctuary, fine. But, the minute you begin an offensive or attack from that location, you are no longer "out of bounds." In this war, you cannot employ the "wait to take fire, before returning fire" mentality. Car bombers and human booby traps know this is their best and most effective way to kill Americans and pay with just one Iraqi insurgent life. They are smart! Why would they want to get into a force on force firefight with Marines? They know they are out-gunned and out-manned! They have used these tactics to swing odds toward their favor. It's time that we recognize that this enemy does not live by a code of honor on the battlefield and that they have only one rule of engagement -- Kill any and all Americans with whatever force, means and tactics they can. If Iraqis seek peace and independence from American support, they must take an active role in flushing out those who fuel and continue the war in Iraq.
