Well I found out today that in January my son will be heading off to the land in the Middle East. He is an Air Force Puke but still a bit worried. His mom is going nuts inside but is trying not to show it. She was there with me through Panama and Desert Storm 1 and knows what it is all about. He will be home in December for about 30 days visiting us and his wife's family in Wisconsin. He may be USAF but I am proud of the boy. He has made his way into maturity that I never dreamed he would. He has become a strong diciplined man who is very conservative in his ways and thinking which I like a lot. He believes in what he does and is one of the best at it. I never dreamed that he would be in some of the same place's that his old man was. Him and I chat a lot over the phone on what he needs to do and how to do it and be safe. After all I leanerd from the Best in the Business. Even though I am a Squid by retirement and by service I was a Marine at heart and soul and what I learned I learned from the Corps

well Doc, our prayers will be with your boy. and isaid it before, I'll say it again. A good Navy Corpsman shouldn't be considered Navy anyway. ;)

We can't all be Marines, someone has to do the other jobs. My prayers will be with you and your boy. God Bless You All!
Best wishes for your boy and we'll keep him in our prayers.

Likewise to all the above, Doc Crow. I am glad that you both can communicate with one another.

We will all pray for your son, Doc. He serves his country - the uniform color does not matter.

Thanks Gang I appreciate it. He is a good kid and learns fast like the old man so he should get through all this. Only concern is that his mother knows no matter what war changes a person I know it did me

DocCrow,
Having a son working for the DOD in Kuwait/Iraq, having a son in the Marines, seeing the pictures and names of all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice every evening on the news, observing the Marine Corps Birthday (as only a civilian can do :) ) , watching "Saving Private Ryan" as well as all the other documentaries and specials surrounding Veterans Day has made me rather numb. Actually, I have been numb for quite a while. I suspect that this numbness will not go away for a long, long time. (I'd like to say,"until everything is resolved" but that could take longer than a long, long time.)
Anyhow, my most sincerest well wishes and prayers are heading your way. I know that your son will complete his duties and missions well. May the Lord see fit to bring your son back home to you safely.
Take care.
Gary

and from "A Few Good Men";
'You don't have to wear a patch on your shoulder, to have Honor'.
You don't have to have crossed rifles under your chevron, to do the job Uncle Sam needs done.
Sounds like his head is on straight, and that's a compliment to ANY parent. Congratulations.
He will be dependent upon others doing their job, just as others will depend upon him doing his job.
He'll be in good company.

Ssometimes as a teen I wondered if he had any gray matter in his gord at all. Now he surprises me each time I see him and from time to time when I talk with him. Ticks him mom off to no end when he says mom most of what dad said when I was growing up I go by now. She always said I was to hard on the kids. Maybe at times I was but life is not easy
