I just got a call from my DOD son and he said that he received the package I sent him and he mentioned that he kept about half of what I sent him and distributed the rest to members of his team. I had used citrus candy to stuff the package and they went crazy over them. I mean hard citrus candy? I also sent some guava paste which was treated like gold. Guava paste? What I am getting at is that what we might find as kind of insignificant is pretty much precious to those craving anything from the United States (home). I also sent 14 thank you cards, one for each member of the team. I was told that they expressed their thanks. What I did was minor and it certainly does not need accolades or even mention, as far as I am concerned.
The reason I started this thread was to remind everyone that aside from our Armed Forces there are DOD employees who at one time were active but now have other jobs and responsibilities. They also don't get mail. Some, as my son say's, just go off to be by themselves on their free time. If any of you can... write not only Marine Corps personnel but DOD personnel. If you can, send a package of goodies.
Much obliged. Thanks for letting me bend your ears.

Osotogary, I was away from this site for a while and may not be up to date on your sons.

The one that is or was a Marine, (If he showed his muscles to the enemy they would lay down their weapons and cry for their mama) is he still with the Corps or is he the one at DOD? Or is it the other son. Or do I have any of this right? lol

Hard candy is good - twizzler licorice is also worth its weight in gold. ..toothpaste, socks - lots of socks - dried banana chips are going like hot cakes....trail mix without chocolate..in fact DO NOT send amything chocolate.....chewing gum, with spearmint flavor in the lead.....baby wipes, vaseline intensive care cream also... and as I get more ideas from the kid, I'll post them

Greensideout,
The youngest is still in the Marines, he is the big fella. He is still stateside.
The oldest works for DOD doing personal protection and security work. All the men with him are , I'll say, former active Special Ops trained personnel from mostly the Army Ranger/Green Beret units going all the way back to the Vietnam era. There are also personnel from the Marine Corps and Navy among them.
Thanks for asking about them.

Got one question;
"How do we sent a package to?"
Soon it will be time for the holidays and the postal system will be swamped with holiday mail.
So we must act ASAP...
You're a good man as many here know...

Ricardo,
Sending a package to whoever is a matter of choice. I just happen to know my sons address. Since I can no longer send him e-mails I use the postal service to connect with him. I wish that I could be of more help.

Jenny,
I am going to visit a DOD related website and see if I can come up with some kind of address if that is what you are referring to.
I merely brought up this thread just reminding everyone that if they know of someone or any group that is away from home, being Marine, Army, Navy , Air Force or DOD now would be a good time to send sharable items.
I wish that I could be of more help to you with an address.
Gary

Jenny,
Log onto Defenselink.mil and scout around.

hello everyone, i haven't yet started, buy my girlfriend and i found this organization, that finds marines, as well as all other armed forces that havne't gotten any mail. we were contacted tonight, by a dependent of a marine in the 3rd div...she is one of the spokespersons...she said there is a battalion of marines out there, who have not gotten mail in about 3 months...so we are doing this adopt a marine program, where we send them letters, and about once amonth, send them care packages of things they need, and want, if anyone would like more info on this please contact me, i'm all about helping out our fellow marines who are over there dying for us, while we are here stateside, living it up in the pleasures of life, not able to re-enlist...thanks

Best idea for sending packages to troops came from my son - he says to call the family assistance numbers listed on the various base websites. Tell them you want to send Christmas cheer to Marines and they will help.

The local radio station Jock here in Phoenix KGME Bruce Jacobs is working with groups here in Phoenix and others places to get thing going for troops overseas for the holidays. This guy is awsome and has done more then most to help the U.S. Military personnel.
