Got an inquiry--may have given some bum scoop--was ExRR 220 or 230?
Had a couple beers and not sure now--I sorta lean toward 230 vice 220 as I claimed earlier.

M1 qualification 1961;

Marksman 190 to 209

Sharpshooter 210 to 219

Expert 220 to 250

Same for the M-14 and later for the M-16
It was this way to 1977 when I got out of the Corps.......

... the ranges and shooting positions. Was speaking with an Army (doggy) I work with the other day, adn we went to shooting, basic rifleman, and the like.

I couldn't remember all of the point system and positions.

200 standing slow-5 rds
200 kneeling slow-5rds
200 sitting rapid-10 rds

300 sitting slow-5 rds
300 prone rapid-10 rds

500 prone slow-10 rds

I'm missing something in here. That's only 45 rds. At 5 pts each, that's 225, so I'm missing 5 rds somewhere.

4 years as 0341, 4 expert rifles, 3 expert pistol

Hi Terry,

You missed the 5 rounds sitting slow fire on the 200 yd line.

125 points possible on 200 yd line
75 points possible on 300 yd line
50 points possible on 500 yd line
250 points perfect score

Couldn't remember all the specifics... just remember it being pretty damn easy. Never did understand how somebody could UNQ.

And I love hearing the 'DOGGY's say 500 YARDS !!! The M16 won't shoot 500 yards

Ring em' and ding 'em

Do they still 'PULL BUTTS', or is that Old Corps now too ??

I qualified with the M-1, the M-14 and the M-16. If I shot less than a 48 on the 500yd line with the M-16, I had a bad day. Remember a few Doggies saying you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the M-16. But than again the M-16 in the hands of a Marine is different than a M-16 in the hands of a Doggie......HE HE HE HE

For some reason the specific of the firing range remain in my head..........HE HE HE HE

I know as of '77 they were still Pulling Butts.
