Had an eye on welding and working with metal and making stuff on my own. So I am heading in to be a 1316 Metal Worker. Anyone out there got any more info on it? Anyone know what its like in the fleet? I got the whole working with metal thing down. lol. but what kind of environment. What people will I be working with. Do we tag around with grunts. That kind of thing.

Thanks

Well, all I know as a former Grunt, is that I never met any metal workers. ;) sorry I coulcn't be more help than that! good luck!

I think the correct term is Metal smith. Could mean anything from working on aircraft to building bridges.

We have metal smiths working on uparmoring hummers in the sand pit right now. So yes, you could work with grunts, you could be in combat zones.

Spent my 5 in the wing as a metalsmith (Airframes). Was certified welder while at HMX, went to Cherry point for the cert in TIG.
