Not sure if anyone cares, but just wanted to give a quick update for those who were interested. I'm stationed on Lejeune, Charlie Co. ITB. Having a blast so far - training is good, hard, and fun. All is well, hope everything around here is going well with everyone. I'll try to check back in, in another week or so. OORAH Marines, Semper Fi.

:marine: Hey, I care...tell me, within a 50 mile radius of Swamp Lejeune, are there any real NICE liberty spots to spend a weekend pass??...many moons ago...50 miles around Lejeune was red/necks [territory] still fighting the Civil War...if you were a Northener, you struck out with those southern "belles"...I'll take the 1st Marine Division venues in California, anyday....I wonder if times have changed in Jacksonville,NC, Tarboro,NC, Port Royal,SC and Yemassee, SC.....clue me in, young Marine....Semper Fi.... :marine:

Jacksonville sucks! It always has and it always will! The locals suck! That town blows goat nuts period. I love Camp Lejeune though. Always have and always will!

Lake if you are at ITB you are at Camp Geiger! That is not Camp Lejeune. I went to AIT, SOI and Machinegunners school there. Big difference! When you get to Lejeune and go to a victor unit you will be an FMF Marine, until then you are a shower shoe in training!

Court Street gone? Crying shame. Not really. Too many buddies caught something there in early 86. Snip is right, Gieger is a different animal than LeJuene.

Only time I partied in Jacksonville is when I was at SOI. Any other time I usually swooped to Wilmington, Raliegh or Myrtle Beach. As I said I hated Jacksonville. I still dislike that place to this day!

Camp Lejeune is a different story. I love that base! Always have!

As far as Court Street, I seen it a few times! Wasn't that the hooker strip? I never paid for any in my life, so I wouldn't have a clue about that place!

I had ITB at Camp Geiger right after PI. How do you thingk I felt when I found out my duty station was in 2nd Topo Company, Camp Geiger. Only had to indure it for two months - went across the big pond to play.

Liberty on Court Street, you ask ????

WAS a profession (lmao)

Drowned many a brain cell at 'The CastAway'.
All you could drink (PBR) for @ $5.00 I think it was. Run by a fellow known as 'Buffalo'.
Was within stumbling (low crawl) distance of the bus station !!

How could anybody hate Actionville? Wilmington sucks just as bad. They hate Marines. Gotta get to Raleigh or Myrtle Beach if you want to have some fun.

Fayetteville is ok if you like homo bars and soldiers.

Atlantic Beach and Morehead City are ok, too.

Spend most of my off time @ Christy's, Johnhy Dollar on the circle Atlantic Beach and the Holiday Inn and Ramada Inn on Salter Path great times. Morehead City was great too and so was Beaufort N.C. Clawson's had the best food.

This old timer got married on Camp Geiger.
Spent my honey moon in the Triangle Motel in Jacksonville.
Lived in Swansboro, NC (out the back gate).
Went to Rocky Mount, NC for liberty.
Loved to go to Emerald Island / Atlantic Beach.
Wilmington was always nice.

All this happened prior to 1971.

hey everybody, back again. Got my MOS and everything. 0341.. so far I'm top gunner, fastest on the lines and scoring highest on the written test. If I keep top gunner for the 81mm then I'm promoted to Lance Coolio..

Loving everything so far.. Liberty out here still sucks guys.. 3 things to do.. strip clubs, beer runs, and escorts. Pick your poison, either way you're blowing your money...

As it looks so far, and from what we're catching from the 1stSgt. we'll be headed to Lejeune with 1/6 or 3/8.. heading to the sandbox by early-mid spring... - we're pretty excited.

Other then that everything is pretty lax. Met a vietnam vet the other night. Was kind of sad to see a fellow devildog in his condition. Told me he was addicted to crack. Showed me some pictures, and his discharge papers. Let him cry on my shoulder a little...

Time to go though.. talk at ya later and keep everybody updated. Semper Fi.. OORAH!!

Good work, PFCLake! Do you still have any money left after indulging in the three vices you listed? LOL
Good luck to you as you move forward into your Marine Corps experience.

Ourstanding Lake! Its seems that the Marines Corps and you are doing just fine. Damn glad to see my Beloved Corps is in good hands!

Quick story, a Mustang Captain came up from armor. He was telling us a story about a shooting competition with an Army Unit.

The Army went first on the mortar targets. First round, missed, second round, another Maggie's Drawers. The judges went ahead and gave them a third round, nothing again for the Army.

The Marine crew took a good look, adjusted azimuth. Look down range again, made one final adjustment, and nailed it with one round!

Then I think the Mustang got carried away a bit. He said his tank crew made such a long shot they factored in the earth's Coriolis Effect to nail a target...hmmm

An Armor Sergeant did tell me about the final range qual at Fort Knox. His crew had already scored a high passing grade, with two 105 rounds left. So they decided to show off their Marine Corps Pride and aim at the sticks holding up the last target. Snap!

Lake if you go to 3/8 you best not disgrace my old unit. I swear I'll personally come down to Lejeune and stick my foot so far up your ass your own mother won't even recognize you Marine! And when you go to the sandbox full of them ragheads keep your head down, your mouth shut and remember to shoot straighter then your enemy. My prayers are with you! Other then that SEMPER FI brother!

Glad to see they aint callin ya poolee lake no more and didnt I tell ya to PM me when ya graduated. But congrats anyways and yes, 3/8 is a very fine unit. And most should remember, back in the 80's the 8th was stationed at Geiger. They took over my old barracks, the 2nd, while we was in oki and we took over the 6th's and the 6th went to Geiger. But where ever you go remember, be proud cause ya did it youngin.

I'm headed to 1/6 - word on the street says we'll head to the sandbox on Feb. 3rd - a few rumours that say I'll have Dec. 17th - Jan. 3rd off for pre-deployment/x-mas leave. I think and hope its a load of crock, I'd hate to head to a hot spot with only one month of Fleet training.

I lost top gunner. When we worked with the 81mm's I screwed up big time on the gunners exam. 1 mistake is all it takes gents. 1 small mistake cost me a promotion to LCpl. Aint that some ****? I guess its better then costing someone their life though. I realized all it takes is one screw up and all hell can break loose.

Anyways, Happy Thanksgiving. If ya'll have any Q's, throw'em at me. I'll be home until Saturday afternoon. I graduate from SOI next Friday, heading straight to 1/6 from there.

Ok gents, heres the scoop. On pre-deployment leave till the 3rd. Headed for 29 Palms for some CAX. Then to Fort Braggs for MOUT and a few other exercises. Then back to N.C. for deployment to Fallujah. Although I'm a mortarman, they threw me with a CAAT Platoon. I'll be cross training with the 240G's and 50CAL. If you didnt know, CAAT platoon does patrols in the humvees. A bit of foot mobile, but mostly in a humvee with a 240 on top. Hopefully I'll be behind the gun most of the time, but lord only knows where they'll put me. I'm up for LCpl sometime in the next 3 months. Possibly pick it up before I leave for Iraq, if not then shortly after.

Regardless, dont worry about me. Jesus almighty, dont worry about me. I'll be fine. If you're gonna pray, pray for 1/6. When I get to the triangle, I'll write my parents and have'em give ya'll an address. I'll be sure to let you know about the sandy beaches and beautiful women. LoL. Wishful thinking... lol.

And for those of you wondering if I'm scared. Not really.. not yet at least. Nothing to be afraid of. I feel confident if anything. 1/6 is a hard unit, tough as nails, and some damn good NCO's. OORAH Marines! Semper Fi.

Allan Hall,
If you get a chance pm me about 2/8. Now, I don't want to know anything that I'm not suppose to know....if you catch my drift but I'm certainly not adverse to scuttlebutt. Hope that your son and his fellow Marines are doing well.
Adios.
