Hmm... I'm almost sure someone's mentioned this before, but you (devildog4ever) might want to think about getting a different account with a different username until AFTER you've earned the title... almost a YEAR from now... it's a bit early to be laying claim to such names... especially if you know WHERE it came from and what kind of sacrifices were made before "Tefeulhunden" was bestowed upon the Marines at Belleau Wood.

Of course that's true. It's also true that you should be in a job that helps the entire Marine Corps, not burden it with someone who doesn't know how to or want to do their job.

You're not wrong. But i remember i applied for S. Security Forces as my second choice, and P.S. as my first and that's the one that I got (so far.) there's of course rigerous investigating of my background to go through before I officially enter the schooling for it.

hmm I was told only if you were "UW" you got that and from what I understand you didnt... correct? And what did your contract say?

perfectcircle
01-06-05, 07:30 PM
Come to think of it, I think it was for UW. I think it was just Security Forces as my second choice. They are separate MOSes. Everything I read about P.S. didn't call it Security Forces so i'm not sure. I'll have to pop my head in the station and ask. But whenever we dicuss our MOSes he refers to the kids in security forces as security forces and me as Presidential Security.

UV is security forces, UW is presidential support, there is no such thing as "special" security forces, and for all of you w/ UW, you aren't guaranteed, many of the "contract" uw's that went through SF school w/ me didn't get it, so don't go tryin to impress all your friends and family by telling them your definetely gonna be goin to guard the president, cause it might not happen. SF school is 6 weeks, but its backed up so u might be waiting to pick up for 3-5 weeks if you get there anytime soon.

As far as shipping date it will be 2005-06-20 (probably change to earlier b/c i graduate 2005-05-29) I mean I will prolly adjust it to where i have about 10-11 days instead of 22...I can drive 3 hours and stay w/ family and spend time with the majority of my family that i only get to see on holidays. MAINLY grandparents (Late 80's...Getting close to that time where you never know) Just hope it doesn't happen while im in boot camp...That would suck.

I don't think that me hving all that "screw around time" during summer will do me any good. Gives me time to make some bad mistakes (parties and crap like that I dont need the trouble from.) Let me get lazy and lose my conditioning that I've been working on at poolee training trying to make my run time... It takes months to get in shape and only takes 1 week to ruin it.

But seriously, in reviewing this little archive we have very many that have earned their place in our Legacy.

Half are ready to ship or even now in the process of getting hammered and tested.

And yes, a few that just disappeared.

I'm not a super zealot, but I do like the Sower of Seeds Parable

"A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.

But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirty fold. Whoever has ears ought to hear."

Poolees...welcome to the USMC. It really doesn't matter what your MOS is. Once passed Boot Camp and your schooling and you reach the Fleet Marine Force then you will start to really learn. Just first concentrate on getting through Boot Camp. One word of advice though...find an MOS or you may wind up with an MOS that you really may may not want. Choose your MOS. Then you can't blame any-one but yourself if you don't like it.

Im an MP and if any of you are looking into the MP 5811 field, I would highly recomend it. You get both side's of the Marine Corps too in the MP work.

There's field MP's and Base MP's. Both can deploy, but the Field side obviously IS a field unit, you get to provide convoy security for convoy's traveling from base to base, learn all of the machine guns and make close friends at the same time.

The base side is basically like the Cops you see out in town, besides the gates, which isnt bad at all, you have alot of freedom on the gates, it's only busy during the morning time for about an hour or so, other than that it's smooth like butta. With everything else you work your way up and eventually become a patrolman and pull people over, not bad at all, plus it will build up a resume for when you ever get out, whether it's 4 years or 20+.

Just an Idea

I am an Accident Investigator on Camp Pendleton, and we could use some help in the MP field, it would be much appreciated if you looked into it.

That's what I was lead to believe I got, then I found out that included 0621-field radio operator. Just because it says aviation electronics, you might want to read the small print. I signed for a B-7, which is an open contract for aviation electronics, didn't really see the part that said communications. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky. All I know is 0621 is the 2nd largest mos (other than infantry), and no one signs for it, so they get there quota one way or another. It's not too bad though, my life expectancy in combat is 3 seconds, but at least I get to call in air strikes!

"SCREW ADMIN! HOW IN THE HELL CAN U SIT N A CHAIR AND DO PAPER WORK WHILE OTHER MARINES ARE IN THE GRIND IN IRAQ!!"

BLT 1/8 Headquarters barracks in Beirut,Lebanon October 23rd 1983 was admin and support,220 of my fallen comrades are dead...died while supporting the Grunt!

Who does the paperwork, unit diary, and disbursing records, leave & earnings statement and leave papers for "those" that are on the ground in Iraq when they get back?

Where would the Marine Corps be?..
If the grunt did not have the support of the machinegunner and mortar man? It is a very pretty sight to see a tank sitting behind your line to be called upon if needed. I cussed the supply man a many times because they wanted to give my men raggedy gear, but I also praised them because I needed to have them with 782 gear and flak jackets and helmets. And in the end they always came through. If you get in tight you may get a can of coffee or two. Some of that gear saved a many life. Couldn’t get along with out them C-rats either. Arty was always very loud, but when the FO called in a grid, they always came through, and took out the target. Couldn’t have called them if it wasn’t for the radioman and the wireman to keep that lines open. Even as s**t was hitting the fan. Thank God we didn’t have to send smoke signals or beat on drums. As a grunt you mostly hump and dig in and then hump again Hurry up, wait, hurry up, move out. But, Motor “T” was always a blessed sight, even if ya were herded into a cattle car, or in the back of a cold bumpy 6x6. That’s where the meat wagons come from too! Historically it is said the grunts and wing do not get along. Again count your blessings for the wing, when you need to make a tactical insurgent 40 miles from your starting location into a hot LZ. Very impressive sight when you see 8 choppers in the sky bringing you reinforcements, waterbulls, mules or a jeep. Hungry call the wing, they will drop the C-Rats by the pallets for you. The wing saved many a life by ferrying the wounded to ships offshore or to a field hospital. Remington Raiders, get a bad rap. But without them your pay and leave would not be. Keep a check on them though, because they are only human. Cooks, God bless them! Try to cook for hundreds and not have a complaint. Get up at 0330 and sometimes don’t leave until 1900.Gotta love it! How about them corpsman, do the same thing as the Marines and save lives too! All the “S” shops and HQ’s provide ya with mail, Intel, an ass chewing and a good laugh now and then. I could go on and on, but by now you should understand where I’m coming from. I love the grunts; I wouldn’t have wanted to do anything else. I found it to be very rewarding. Every Marine is a rifleman. But it couldn’t be done without all of the Marine Corps mos supports.

Well said, Phantom Blooper.

Regardless of the MOS you may choose, it is all part of the Marine Corps mission. Be proud of what you choose to do, and do it well. A fellow Marines life might depend on it.

Data Systems

Might change though. I've been a wrestler and paintball player all my life don't want a boring job kind of want to do Force Recon when I turn 20, or Scout Sniper.

Anyone that does BX (data systems) please tell me more of what you do. When I ws at M.E.P.S. There was a former Marine turned Army said that he did Data Systems and that he did not like punching numbers behind a desk.

Then my older brother who is a corpal (he does Security Forces) said that data systems is a hard job to get and you have a ton of job oppritunities after life in the Corps.

I am currently 18 and I work for a company that sells used IBM servers so I am constintally surrounded by computers. I have worked there since I was 16.

I do realize that if I want to do Force Recon or Scout Sniper that it would be in my best intrest to go infantry.

MOS - Baritone Bugle in "The Commandant's Own" Drum and Bugle Corps in DC.

What is the process involved with becoming a member of one of the Marine Corps bands? I've never met anyone that was going in, or had been in, so I'm curious.

I understand from this post that you go to Boot Camp, but do you also go to MCT?

What rank do you end up being? Are you guys all officers or..?

How long is your MOS school?

txphil21
02-14-06, 10:12 PM
I had to perform an audition for a SSgt that recruits people specifically for the bands. I had to prepare a solo, play scales, and sightread a lot of music. Your audition is given a numerical score on a 4.0 scale. I think a 2.7 qualifies you for acceptance into the Marine Corps band program (12 bands stationed around the country). A 2.85 or higher qualifies you for the Drum and Bugle corps (there is only one, The Commandant's Own in Washington) if there are any openings. Luckily for me, when I auditioned there were 2 openings for Baritone Bugle, the horn I can play.

Yes, I will go to boot camp at PI, and then MCT.

The Band program recruits will go to 6 months of training at the Armed Forces School of Music as their MOS school.

The Drum and Bugle Corps doesn't have MOS training, you just go right into the group and hit the ground running. I assume this is because there are only 65 people out of the whole Corps in this group, so they don't have a seperate MOS school to train so few people.

We go through the ranks like all other enlisted Marines, or at least that's what it looks like. I believe the only officer is a Major that runs the whole group.

I will be stationed at Marine Barracks in Washington DC, along with the Marine Band (President's Own) and the Silent Drill Platoon.

Hope this helps.

PFTstud - Very nice stats.

The sit ups will happen. Pull with your legs (thighs) - they are strongest muscles in the body. Pull ups are awesome - especially considering you are dead hanging.

The run is what the run is. I am built for speed, not long distance. I always maxed the sit ups and pull ups, and then jogged the run. So long as you finish the 3 mile run in 25 minutes, you are guaranteed a 1st class PFT.

In boot tho, I would try for the 18 minute run on the final PFT. It will be the best chance you will have to attain a perfect score. Running conditions will play into it tho. I ran my at PI in late July with high humidity and temps around 95 degrees.

Your upper body is in great shape. I would concentrate on the legs till you ship. Just my opinion.

Thanks LCpl Steve.

The pullups and situps I can max out no pobably, I'm am too also built for speed, so the longg/mid distance running kills me. My goal is to get ironman (along with being a honorary graduate) so hopefully all the running my platoon does helps this recruit conditioning.

What week is the final PFT taken by the way?

That would be Cpl Steve, but you will learn that in boot. No worries.

Dunno if you are still in high school, but I would grab some of the guys who ran "Cross Country" at your school. Ask them for tips as they have been there and done it. (Most of them are skinny little wusses, but they have information that you need).

One small trick I learned in running long distance (from a Cross Country guy) is to put a small pebble in each hand, and allow them shake in your hand as you run. This will stop your upper body from tightening up during the run, as your hands will be loose. The upper body tightening up (with clenched fists) will hurt you.

Again - glean as much info from the Cross Country guys as you can. Each will have a different technique, and one or more of them may be a huge help to you.

As far as *when* it is - consult the Marine Corps web site. They have a complete schedule online. I believe my son said they even post the next days events in the barracks! Hell, they didn't do that in my day!!!

Hope this helps!

One of the things that helped me was running with a partner that had a faster time than I did. This was during NCO school at Camp Johnson. I had a target time (for 3 miles) of 19:30 and was running at a 21 minute pace. My running partner was an 18 minute man and would push me like crazy. Shadowman is right--tighten your upper body and you can tell it, especially in your air intake.

Another thing that we did was where the last man in formation had to sprint to the front and so on---it had a name, just can't remember what they called it.

We did that in a function a few months backs, believe it was called the Indian run, we also had a baton (well, a water bottle) and the guy in the front would pass it back until it got to the last person, then he would sprint to the front of the line and repeat.

I am slotted to ship out in December or early January for Parris Island. I just spoke to my recruiter tonight and my ship date isnt scheduled up fully yet. If they need me to go before Christmas, he said they will probably offer me a bonus because I requested after Christmas to finish up classes this semester and all.

And my MOS is 03XX.

2800 are all electronic repain jobs, many of them do repair communications equipment.

2821 repairs computer system. 2832 repairs multichannel radio systems. I know more about this job because I was a 2532 (nor 0622 is the designator) which is a multichannel radio operator. They will repair the MRC-142 and the TRC-170 radio systems. It is a great job, but is getting smaller. Much of the mission of the multichannel radio has been changed to sat comm in the last few years. To be blunt, 2881 is a better job for his future in the civillian world than 2832 is.
