A little history on the "Alamo"...

The "Alamo" of 1836 was in Mexico and the Tejano's were fighting for Independence dued to unfair taxiation by the government in Mexico City.
Also the Native Americans were a problem to the authorities in Mexico City.
The Americans that were in what now is Texas, had signed as immigrants to Mexico.
The laws for insurrection was death and there was also laws dealing with anyone coming into Mexico armed.
They were consider pirates, if caught alive would also be punished by death.
The Tejano's won their Independence and became the Republic of Texas.
Many Tejano's were Mexicans born in what now is Texas and many died there fighting for their Independence...

The Thirteen Days of the Alamo

The music to "Deguello" dates to when the Spanish were fighting the "moors" or muslims in southern Spain.
It translates to "no quarter ask, no quarter given" or "no prisoners".
Now all I have to do, is find out when the Republic of Texas joined the Union...was it before 1847 or after 1848 when the treaty to end the Mexican-American War was signed...

You should submit your ideas and cartoons to those news papers that carry those stories, I can see the cartoon with the Alamo in the background.

"Can I show you my Flintlock?"

Ellie, you mean its okay to do it in public? As long as you're not caught?

Hummm, I wonder if that comes from experience....LOL

The Republic of Texas joined the Union in 1845, two years before the Mexican-American War and 15 years before our the Civil War up north and the War of the Rebellion down south...

My southern brother Marines alway refer to what we call the Civil War as the War of the Rebellion...we might called a family fight but the wouldn't do justice to the many that died on both sides.
General Joshua Lawerance Chamberlain had the right idea of how to end that war.
It's sad that what he did couldn't apply to post-war Iraq.
He understood that many would be need to reconstruct much of what had been damaged in the war.
There's a small book by Roger Borroel from East Chicago, Indiana dealing with the Alamo by what was written by a Mexican Officer that was present...
I got interested on the Alamo are reading Roger Borroel book along time ago.
Many think in terms of the Texas of the present as opposed to actual history of 1836 and before.
It does not take away from the valor of those that died fighting for Independence of what now is Texas...

PS Roger Borroel is cousin to my step-children.
Roger was a member of I believe the 82th Airborne...
