A Tale of Ten Applicants

Ten little applicants standing in line
One lost his SS card and then there were nine.

Nine good applicants who looked first rate
One had asthma and then there were eight.

Eight eager applicants with visions of heaven
One blew the ASVAB and then there were seven.

Seven good volunteers, one in a fix
Disclosed this at ENTNAC, this left six.

Six little volunteers were very much alive
An incomplete "66" cut them to five.

Five future Marines wishing there were more
One became indifferent and then there were four.

Four stalworth applicants cheerful as could be
One lost his promised program and then there were three.

Three eager applicants knew what to do
But too few police checks cut them to two.

Two faithful applicants with processing nearly done
One declined enlistment and then there was one.

One well briefed applicant with nothing astray
Thanks to his recruiter enlisted that day.

One lonely depper won his neighbor true
Brought him to a meeting and then there were two.

Two earnest deppers each enrolled one more
That doubled their numbers and then there were four.

Four sincere deppers worked and couldn't wait
All trying for their jackets, soon there were eight.

Eight enthusiastic members got sixteen members more
My Lord, before you knew it, the club reached twenty-four.

This tale of ten applicants is often quite true
Now that you've read these verses, which one belonged to you?
