The same holds true for many that work for other government agencies.
Those in law-enforcement and fire-fighter's that have been injured in the line-of-Duty often find themselves in the very same situation.
having worked LAPD I was injured several times, placed off duty by my medical doctor only to be returned to full duty before fully recovering by a city appointed physician who never examined me.
Often, I ended up getting hurt and was placed off for a longer period of time, then the process would began all over again.
I tolerated the pain and retired, as soon as I could.
