MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (August 8, 2004) -- The Marines of Marine Air Control Group 28 held a fun filled family day on Aug. 8.

The event, which was open to all Marines and their families, displayed a general idea of what their spouses did at work.

“Family day lets the family see what their mothers and fathers do and where they work out in the field,” said Cpl. Maximilian Lopez, a radar repairman of MACS-2.

Lopez commented on the large number of families that attended throughout the day. “The spouses and children get a good picture of what their normal work day might be like.”

“Everything is running smoothly; it’s going better than expected,” said Capt. George L. Rodney Jr., of Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 28.

“We’ve had several hundred spouses and children come through today,” said Capt. William J. Markham. “It’s great to see so many people come here and see what we do.”

The tents where all the gear was set up was spread out enough for those who visited to get an idea of what a real operation would look like. “We’ve had no major hindrances so far and I’m proud of our accomplishments,” said Markham.

Family day is in conjunction with training exercise Pegasus Flight 3, which started a few weeks ago and is continuing the next few weeks.

“The Marines and Sailors who are involved in Pegasus Flight 3 take the experience from other units and from those who are serving overseas and putt it into action in this exercise,” said Markham.

“Pegasus Flight 3 as well as family day has been in the planning stages since April of this year,” said Markham.

“This is good training for our Marines as well as a good chance for them to see their families,” said Markham. “We are fixing all the problems and getting good training in now in the event of a possible deployment over the horizon.”

Markham said he believes everyone is doing a great job and learning tremendous amounts of information.

“We are implementing all our knowledge into this exercise,” he said. “It is great that the families get to see what we’ve done.”
