Bush faced skepticism from some Democrats, led Friday by Sen. Edward Kennedy, who sharply criticized the administration for what he described as its failure to make a "convincing case" that war with Iraq was justified.
Should President Bush have scaled back a proposed resolution against Iraq?

It was well worded and if nothing esle reflects a man who believes that freedom and the protection of American innocents is of utmost importance.

It was back in 1962 that a small country in the caribbean aligned itself with the then Soviet Union to host Nuclear Missles aimed at the US.
We were ready to attack then and we are ready to attack now!
... yes, but with reservations.
We will need support in this, if it is to turn out in our favor.
A big IF something goes against us, and we do NOT have the support of the UN community, then we will have to support the weight of everything alone. IF something goes wrong, and we have the UN support, then it will be nearly impossible for everyone else to stay out of it. It keeps us from being the 'BAD GUY' in this. We will need to be in good standings with teh rest of the world, when it's over..... not just now.
I think it was a STRATIGIC move, not a Political one.
1. We need time to get forces AND logistics in place
2. The more support we have from CLOSE BY Countries, the easier the logistics will be. (ie.... if we can use Turkey air bases, we don't have as much air refueling to do) Everything becomes faster, cheaper, and easier to control. Better communication will reduce the chance of another 'Friendly Fire' incident.
3. By ADJUSTING conditions to Iraq, we are showing the rest of the world, that we do have an open mind to the situation, but WILL see it resolved.
But when the deadline comes....... it's 'Katie bar the door', no quarter, no holds barred, the gloves are off.
But just my take on the whole thing.

11Sept01...we were attacked by Islam Extremists...we were attacked upon our own homeland...since when do we have to get the permission to retaliate [defend] our country from a an assembly of ...foriegners...as Bush is left with no other option to go it alone [w/Britain]..Fat Boy Kennedy, that sanctimonious hypocrite, deserves to be in State's prison...is only grandstanding; in order, that Bush will be voted in for a 2nd term once we get Saddam...out of power and have our "vaunted CIA" able to setup a friendlier puppet regime towards the West...Iraq has violated the restraints placed upon itself, as the results of losing the Desert Storm War, that in itself, is sufficient to wage hostilities, but let's return to the most pressing issue of being able to defend ourselves from blantant acts of war...11Sept01...it's high time to seek retribution forestalling bi-partisan politics by the Democratic Congress, the United Nations [the tower of Babel] and all other wimpy, sunshine/Americans...our proud forefathers must be cringing to...what we have become!! ...NO!!!
I have learned more, adn rethought my position some on this subject, thanks to our ever vigilant Sparrowhawk.
His post 'What the heck is wrong with these people', has provided me with the insight, that I spoke out of turn.
By not having enough of the facts, OR knowing my history very well, it looks like pres Bush is just trying to follow thru with a resolution, that he inherieted from 'slick willie' (note the little 'w').
In the thread 'Poolee Logo', I decided that once the line is drawn, that's it, it's drawn. Pres. Bush is defending the 'line', that was drawn many years ago. He didn't draw it, nor did his father. It's not personal, it's not family, IT'S THE LAW.
So, if a change of vote is allowed, make mine a NO !!!
And, DAMN THE TORPEDOs, FULL SPEED AHEAD !!!

This poll is absurd. It asks for opinions reguarding a "proposed" UN Resolution. What the hell is that about.
The question about the President's power, in reguard to what?
If we are to attack countries that are implicated in the twin towers attack, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan should head the list.
The original UN resolution was part of the settlement of the gulf war, this was during George I reign. George I didn't enforce it, Willie didn't enforce it, George II didn't think bout it till Sept 11.
We just want their oil.
