Good mornin' folks! How are ya this mornin'? It's good to see ya. Grab a cup of coffee! Of course it's on!
Ive been gettin' my head full of stuff about the Marine Corps lately. Stuff I haven't looked at in a long time. Some stuff I never knew about. I see a pattern in it all. I've been lookin' at Marine Corps history and a good hard look, too. Seems there's been some things like our role as the world's police force that's been going on for a long time. Started in 1812. Limited political goals and all. Chesty's career started in the jungle. Eventually we pulled out of that one as well. They didn't come home to a hero's welcome either. Of course his experience, and the experience of other Marines in Central America gave us the knowledge we needed for the Pacific during WWII. Some good came of it.
Seems that many who fought in Viet Nam had a similiar experience in becoming command and staff officers for the Persian Gulf. Their experience was used somewhat differently. Plus they had all the logistic support they could ask for as well as all the latest equipment and training. In addition, they didn't have to start from scratch in building companys, regiments and brigades. These outfits already existed and were well trained. Looks like some good came out of the hell that was Viet Nam. Somebody finally listened. In the Persian Gulf, we had what we needed before the **** hit the fan. That has never been the case in any war the Marine Corps has ever fought. It took over 200 years, but if the Nation allows us to be ready, the results will always be the same.
Now if they learn to let us finish what they tell us to start.....
So, be motivated, but don't forget reality. A couple of those things that help us to do it right the first time. One of these days, maybe they'll let us do it better than before. The best is yet to come.
Warm up yer coffee and kick back. It's Sunday. Relax and enjoy before yer week starts!

Mornin' folks! How are ya this mornin'? Coffee's on, grab a cup and get some!
I been workin' somethin' over in my mind today. Yeah, yeah, it's hard work, but I do it anyway! LOL. I been thinkin' about freedom. Although our thoughts of freedom as Americans is inextricably intertwined with patriotism, ( See, I can use multi-syllabic words!....sometimes....) I'd like to try to separate that somewhat, and consider what it means personally. As individuals. Then take a look, using the same criterion ( I had to look up the spelling fer that one! LOL. But I know what it meant) to look at what freedom for others might mean or entail, and how best we might go about achieving it for others. Others being family members, counties, nations, provinces, whatever.
Whatever standards we apply towards ourselves must be applied towards others, and vice versa. There are of course political consequences and considerations, but on a personal level;. How do we achive this for ourselves and for others without dominating unnecessarily the thoughts and minds and free will of those we seek to enjoin to freedom.
I think the liberals have something in mind. I also believe the extreme right wingers have something in mind. What they all forget is that freedom isn't free if their thoughts, beliefs and systems are forced upon others. Choice, information and personal responsibility cannot be overridden in any system whereby freedom is offered or taught or used as a value system.
Are ya awake yet! LMAO. Have another cup of coffee and consider! LOL. Just somethin' to get ya worked up over before ya start yer day is all! LOL.
Freedom to get it right maybe. Freedom one day, even, to do it better.

*pours a cup* Sure can tell it's fall. Woke up with someone inside my knees with a knife twisting it all around. Nope, haven't been around much - been quite bizy. Getting to be that time of year when the phone stops ringing so frequently, hence I do become a bit greedy, and work my ass off.
Bones is 110% correct about the freedom issue. Liberals and Right-wingers seems to forget what got them the privledge of being able to speak their minds. You cannot force your ideals onto someone whom has learned freedom as a value system from the onset. Whether they be far left - or far right.
I criticize neither for voicing opinion. I do, however, quesiton validity of facts presented. It's freedom to stand up and speak your opinion, but - it's also freedom to question the validity of the facts from which your opinion comes from.
What really bothers me, right now, is the fact that enlistment numbers are not UP - givin the impending war with Iraq. If the polling numbers are true (and if you believe that crap, I got some swampland for sale too...) why aren't there more people standing in line at the Recruiter's offices?
Everyone (it seems) who wants the war, seems as though nobody amongst them wants to fight it. They want someone else to fight it for them. That line of seperation is getting alot more clearer these days. You've got guys like me, who wore the uniform, because it was the right thing to do - yet really doesn't think the Iraq war is such a good thing, because theres more pressing issues to be dealt with (my opinion).
But I, in good faith and conscience, cannot allow those around me in the military be called to duty, without offering my experience. Which I have. I have a standing committment to my Marine brothers in the National Guard. If they go, I'm going with them. It's that simple. As of right now, they're not going anywhere. But they know I'm ready and willing, and that's enough. Marines are like that - even though they wear an Army uniform now.
What's wrong with the rest of these civilians? Maybe they're too scared to fight for the freedom they so loudly proclaim as 'threatened'. I don't feel threatened. I feel alot more threatened at home by other things than by Iraq thats for sure.
And I ain't fvcking scared to fight either. Hope yer awake now.
I AM.

Man the alarm clock about twisted me straight up in bed! Good to see you all here. Went back and read the weekend stuff and it sounds like we're all doing some serious thinking. That's good - keeps the rust from clogging the brain housing group.
The Marine Birthday is coming up - danged old group - lots of history. I won't be doing the ball this year. I've missed the last couple of years due to funding. This year my partner is in school and I think she is going to need all of the support I can give. School isn't cheap either. But Jan's happy that she is finally getting the chance to put all of her law learning into one package. I'm real proud of her for going back to school - having done it myself - I know how hard it is to get back into a routine of studying.
Well off and about for the day - not a busy one for a Monday - get a chance to catch up on the doo-dah stuff for a change -

Guess it's still mornin'. Freedom. I love it. I cherish it. I practice it. I also encourage others to do the same. Things have been done on both sides to undermine the freedoms and liberties of the people. Well, power corrupts. Unfortunately, they bring these issues up as if they are a public service or for the good of the people. All it's ever been about is control. Elected officials should not be going into public service for the retirement benefits. The only way I see it as a career is one who starts at a local level, builds a base and, if he's worthy, works toward the national level and ultimately, again if he's worthy, the presidency. The president is the only public official, i believe, who should have any kind of retirement benefits. Not like he's going to go out and get a job after being the president. Security alone would hamper his (and perhaps someday her) ability to do the job. These people should be paid well, but nothing extreme. With those funds they can put money aside for retirement like the rest of us do. They should be given some consideration due to travel and residency but not give them unlimited tax deductions and perks for traveling to see every special interests groups fund raisers. Every time a special interest group speaks or communicates with these elected officials it should be public record, transcribed and put on the internet for us, the people, to review. If one of these special interst groups wants an elected official to be a guest at some retreat or other function, the elected official should have to pay their own way with their own money.
Oh, this crap always gets me riled. LOL Until we come together as a nation we'll never be able to fix what's happened in Washington DC. and Washington DC won't ever allow us to unite. Divide and conquer.
Well all, have a great day!

Well, good mornin' folks! Coffee's on! Grab a cup and cop a squat!
I don't have a thing in mind today to talk about! Lots of things goin on around the world today, but I ain't gonna comment on them too much here. Got a couple things on the back burner but they ain't cooked up yet.
I'm feelin a bit better today than I have been. I understand a few folks been missin me here and there. I ain't goin nowhere. Just didn't want to take out bein sick on folks around here is all! I get grumpy when I don't feel well! LOL. Kinda like not havein yer coffee in the mornin!
I been studtin' some history again, too. None of the doctorate stuff, just readin' here and there is all. Things interest me, I get to lookin' them up. Kinda study them a bit. That way I'm not completely lost when someone brings it up, no matter what "it" is.
Some things interest me more than others, though. That's the trouble with bein eclectic and an intelectual dilletante! LOL. That's the advantage as well. You can study anything ya want as much or as little as ya like. Lots of things I'm deficient in knowin'. Grammar bein' one..... Others I have a few strengths in. I got a fair to middlin idea where science is tryin to head. IDon't study math as much as I ought, or music. I kinda know my weaknesses, and some of my strengths. One of my strengths bein' that I know I'm hard to live with when I ain't feelin' well, so I try to be considerate. Why let folks tempt me if they can't help it! LOL.
Warm up yer cup and sit a spell. Its all good. Plan out yer day before ya get started. Think ahead a bit if ya can.
One of these days we'll get it right. Might even do it better if we ain't careful ! LOL

*pours a cup* Yup, Bones makes a good cup of mud. Truth of the matter is, I get really ornery when I get sick too. That is unless I'm REALLY sick. Then I just sleep.
I offered to help Bones with the music, being how thats kinda my department. Now he's talkin about moving to Montana or Idaho. Wonder if he's gonna be a dental floss tycoon? Get himself a pygmy pony, and some zircon encrusted tweezers. Is that a Sears poncho?
I don't study math either, but I use it every day. Comes with being a carpenter. I do my math on a tape measure, square or other tool. We got our science lessons working on helicopters in the Corps, Bones. There isn't too many scientific or physics principles that we didn't experience in that environment, that we won't encounter on a daily basis.
Kinda hopin Bones drops by his Indiana home sometime this fall/ winter, so I can drive down and tip a few with him, or tip alot with him. I'm thinkin alot is more the plan of the day.
Yeah, I like Rat's idea bout Special Interests and the Prez, and Congress. Let us review it.
But, ya see, that would restore integrity to the Government.
And WE all know elected officals have NONE.

Might have to put on a sweater, so I dont get sick. Don't get sick very often, but for a while I was getting sick every New years Eve, for three of them in a row. Then that stopped.
Looking forward to seeing what today brings. Hope they catch that sniper soon, he is beginning to iritate me. Need a good machine gunner near by, so the gunner can carve USA across the snipers chest.

Mornin' folks! Coffee's on! Get a cup and have a sit! Wake up a bit before ya start yer day.
Got our first decent snow of the year. It's kinda pretty sometimes.I don't like shovelin' it, though! LOL. A few years ago I was at work in Rapid City and living about 30 miles from town. I got off work late and took the "shortcut". Saved about 6 miles goin' that way, but it takes a bit longer sometimes. Temperature dropped down to twenty below. Big snowstorm had just blown through earlier that day. Roads were icy and snowcovered. Twisting mountain road. Hairpin turns. Steep grades. Pucker factor was kinda high, but ya know what? I have yet to see anything as beautiful as the scenery on that trip. Snow covered pines. Stars you could reach out and touch.
If I'd a made even one mistake driving home that night, I would a froze to death. I was miles and miles from the nearest house or building. Beauty and danger. The beauty was breathtaking. The danger kept me aware. I was secure in my abilities and what it took to get the job done. I'd faced danger here and there before. This was something to be aware of, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with if I was careful. It was kinda fun, really. Then finally reaching that warmth and comfort that we all like to have around us. Home.
Warm up yer coffee, folks. It's a good day. Relax and enjoy. Ya got enough experience and been down the road far enough, yer bound to get it right. Probably even do it better than ya did before.

*pours a cup* No snow yet, but my bro in the U.P. got some the last couple days. 2 weeks and I'm heading there for the Ball!! Man, I can't wait.
On this day in 1983, I was in rotation from Iwakuni to Cherry Point. I still get that feeling of helplessness, knowing that 241 of My Brothers died that day, and WE couldn't do a damm thing about it.

I was with HMT-301. Just knowing the way guard duty was bein' handled at the time, I knew the Marine at the gate didn't have a chance to do a damn thing. Poor bastard. That's the man I feel for now. The other gents are on on detail with Chesty. Marines, you did your job. Gentlemen, Ya done good. We don't haveta like the situation. You did your job. You followed orders. You did the best that could be done under impossible circumstances. Something that has been happening to Marines since the genesis of the Corps. We will never forget. Mornin' folks! How ya doin' today! Coffee's on, grab yerself a cup and have a sit. Drinkin' folders today. Hey! They had a sale! Four bucks a can. What can I say! I like the good stuff, but coffee's coffee! LOL.
I had somethin' I wanted to talk about, but I fergot what it was...My mind's like a teflon coated fryin' pan! LOL. My feet ain't itchin', but I'm gettin' that feelin' that it's time to move on. Sometime in the next year or so, give or take a few months, I figure on movin' outta state. Lord willin' and the crick don't rise. We'll see what happens. I'm startin' to do my research. I get like that. Historically my family has been one fer movin' on. I figure I got some of that passed down to me. Most of my brothers and one of my sisters have moved all over the country. Seems like every few years, we just gotta move.
That's what settled this country and helped to make it great, I figure. Looking for new things. New ideas bein' exchanged. What's over the next hill. What's around the corner. Exploring. Wonder. Curiosity. Seeking. Searching. What can be done to make things better. Some parts of the family have settled, sometimes for generations. I understand that there are still members of my family in upstate New York who've been there since 1710 or so. You've got to admire that. Other members, like my own family have been all over the continent since then.
What ever works for you, I guess. Stability or curiosity. I choose curiosity. I like to learn things and see things I never would have believed or understood otherwise.
What works best for you, I guess. Curiosity or stability. There are things to learn from both.
Warm up yer cup, folks. The day's just started. Think things throuhg and plan out yer day. We'll get it right one of these days. Maybe figure a way to get it better, if we think things through.

Mornin' Folks! How ya doin' this fine Mornin' anyway! It's always good to see ya. Coffee's on, grab a cup and squat somewhere!
I'm finally startin' to feel like myself now. Dang bug still got ahold of me, but I'm whippin' it! Now I need to figger who I'm gonna pick on! LOL.
I haven't got a thing to talk about. Gettin to be kinda normal. Interesting, though, the things you fellers go off on when I get done flappin' my jaws. Always somethin' to learn, or a different way of lookin' at things. Kinda hard to put aside the "glasses" we use to look at the world, though, ain't it.
As much as I know better, I'm always amazed at the number of people who don't think the way I do-don't say it-!LOL. Tryin' to look at things from the other feller's point of view can be a trick. Objectivity some call it. Communication, maybe. There's some fancy psychological words for that, too, but I can't remember them right now. It don't matter anyway. What matters is thinkin' things through if ya can. Considerin' all the options in a situation and not just reactin' to things people say or do.
Reactin' ain't always a good thing. It's better to act, than to react. That can be a trick as well. Ya need to be balanced and thoughtful in yer approach to things if at all possible. COnsider that the other fella might have the same rights you do, without infringin' on them or lettin' him infringe on yours. Seems some folks don't like what's goin' on around them, instead of takin' resposibility for their part of it, they all about makin' a new law to keep the other fella from doin' things they don't like him doin'. There's enough laws on the books that a few of them wouldn't be missed if they were abolished. Make sure ya ain't tryin' to make others live up to your standards in their own house, I guess.
This requires a moral base, I think. A base of honor, integrity and courage. The honor to do what is right and necessary. The integrity to knkow when to act and when not to, and to stick by your guns, acknowledgin when ya might be wrong. The courage to do these things as well. They all go together and are inseperable to me. Hard to describe one without describin' the other.
I guess I haven't thought this all through. Just ran across it tonight talkin' to folks in chat today. Had a good conversation goin most of the night. Covered the legal system, men and women, some politics of course, current events, and even visited a bit about the middle east and it's social-political origins with the Ottoman Empire and racial origins in that part of the world. Had a bit of fun, too of course. It was a good time. Sometimes they get me to thinkin' though. Gives me a headache.....LOL;)
Warm up yer cup, folks. It's a good day to think things through. Try to figgre what's goin' on around ya and why. Hell, when we can do that, we got a pretty good chance to get it right, maybe. Could even do it better next time if we ain't careful.

Had a good visit with Seeley later on, too. He seems like a good kid. We need a few more like that. If he's not careful, he could end up bein' CMC of the Corps one of these days. We'll see what happens, huh! LOL.
I've been readin' some history about the Corps lately as some of you know. I never really got into the details before. From what I can see, some things have, obviously changed. Weapons and tactics and discipline and such. Thing is, we were never guaranteed a place in the armed forces of the United Sates til about 1950 or so. Always had someone after us. Some of the admirals in the Navy, two or three presidents. It was touch and go several times, over a period of about a hundred seventy-five years. Didn't have any real numbers til WWI, and then got cut again afterwards! Thing is, at times we were given impossible jobs at impossible odds, just to try and get us destroyed or discredited. Not to mention bein put in impossible places to start with just over politics and games.
We fought in Korea years before the Korean War. We were in the South Pacific and Asia years before WWII. We were in the Carribbean decades before Grenada. The :Med" trips have been made for decades as well. Long before the shores of Tripoli. That was remarkable just for the way it was done. Take a handful of men and some rebels and hump 600 miles across desert to get on the back side of Tripoli just in time for the Naval bombardment to begin!
The Boxer Rebellion wasn't the first time we fought against troops that had only a few years before been supplied and trained by the United States. It certainly wasn't the last.
Amphibious landings have been a part of our history from the very beginning. But we've learned all other sorts of warfare as well. It's something we're good at. Land sea, and in WWI, began our love of air support!
What I'm sayin' is that we've had to put up with bull from the very beginning. But we've always come through and did a helluva job in the process. Adapt and overcome. We need to apply those words individually. I need to apply those words to myself as well.
When I get it all figured out, I'll let ya know! LOL. In the meantime, warm up yer coffee, and set a spell. It's Saturday! Rake some leaves, shovel some snow. Do that Saturday stuff. Enjoy the family and spend some time with the Brothers and Sisters. You've earned it.
One of these days we'll figure it out. I hope we get it better! LOL. It's a new day. New possibilities. New chances! Maybe even new hope.

Mornin' folks! How ya doin.....Yeah, I know. I took yesterday of! So fire me! LOL. Coffee's on, grab a cup and sit fer a bit. Yer day ain't started yet! LOL. Paper'll be here after awhile. Give me the front page and the comics. Y'all can have at the rest! LOL.
I haven't been thinkin' about too awful much this mornin'. Just random thoughts on things is all. Had one kid here lately asked about why a Marine became a Marine. Well, when I finally got serious and thought about it, it's damn hard to answer really. Lookin' back, I remember all the things I told myself before hand. Things, of course, changed somewhat afterwards. Now, years later, all I can really consider are some of the things that came out of it.
There is no puttin' it into 25 words or less, so I won't even try. It'll be different for different folks. Near as many reasons as there are Marines. One thing ya see after the fact is that we're always coverin each others ass. That means different things to different folks as well. One of the top things on that list to me concerns gettin the job done. Someone always around who knows or can find out. Plus always someone who can jury rig damn near anything and help get the mission done. You know, that seemingly infinite variety of backgrounds and experience that somehow all seems to work together to get things done, and get them done in style.
In nearly every battle you read about that Marines are involved in, they always seem to have to rig something together that gets the job done, no matter what. Creativity. Persistence. Hell and damnation don't get in the way.
Whatever yer battles are today, we're here for ya. We'll rig somethin' up. That's somethin' else, as automatic as breathin'. Marines are there for each other. You stick yer dick in it deep enough and don't listen, well, a man makes his own choices. We'll be around to pick up the pieces, tho.
I can't put it in any better words. Not sure the words exist fer somethin' like that.
We're here for ya. Remember that today and every other day. No matter what it takes, yer Marines. Ain't nothin' can stop ya. We'll get it right. We'll probably do it better, too.
Semper Fidelis, Marines.
Warm up yer coffee folks. It's a good day.

Morning folks,
Its Monday, and another Saturday for me, LOL.
I became a Marine because I knew I would be going to Viet Nam and would need good training to stay alive. That and to get away from my ex-wife, the Marine Corps helped me with both.
I have never regretted having joined the Corps, its trainning remains with me today.
Hot coffee in the morning for one, think I'll have a cup thank you.
(sip)... Ahhhhhhh. Good Joe guy's.
Monday AM, drizzle, low 50's in Nashville. Traveling to Baltimore for a few days..... Feels different today going, than it did just a few days ago. But, I'm gonna wear my TITAN's jacket.
Question: Has this Sniper changed your patterns, your daily routine, your normal ways???
I don't think I'll look out across a parking lot the same way, for a long time. Traveling alot, you see alot of different peoples lives, hear alot of thoughts.
My daughters Birthday is tomorrow (15), and I'm gone. Goes with the territory, but She lives at Grandma's house (long story). Got out last night, put BRIGHT ORANGE signs all over the telephone poles (about 200) between her house and the school, on the bus route. Gonna meet her at school with bunch of Roses... :D before I fly out.
Fresh pot cooking.... ya'll have an easy day.
God Bless, and Gods speed. :marine:

Ellie did turn off the ringer but I still hear the other one.....
How she puts it.....everyone loves her......LOL.....
mrbsox I haven't change my life style....but it does make you look around a little more.....
Bones these kids come in with an attitude....That is what bothers, most of us....Yes we all have different reasons that we joined, and some really can't answer....because their really wasn't one....
but their reason must come within themselves......
Well need to get some more coffee, and maybe a little more beauty sleep.......
So all have a good day.............
Hey Cook it is like a Saturday for me today.....LOL

Monday - man they get harder and harder as I get older. Not the day itself - just the getting up and going to work part. I've worked since I can remember and I think I am ready to do some goofing off. I'd like to reload more and chase coyotes, do more little things around the house, volunteer at the VA for a day a week, visit my grandkids more often, and have a second cup of coffee without worrying that it will keep me up at night.
Just rambling I guess. Since I had my meds changed I'm starting to get my memory back. I've had trouble for years remembering names and incidents. But all of a sudden names are coming into my head out of the blue. It's a good thing.
Bones you certainly are on a roll of late. I've really enjoyed reading your postings. Lots of history there. You mentioned that the Marines ahve been in most places we ended up getting in serious fights later on. Grenada. On Crib cruises we used to practice our beach assaults there about mid-tour. When we hit the place during the little scrap I kept thinking - "I've been there." Then it finally dawned on me.
Well the coffee certainly is good this morning. Got me motivated and moving. Heard from my daughter and she is leaving for the desert in early December. Hoping she does OK - know she will - but us dads worry.
Have a superb day out there in never land -

Sparrowhawk, I keep tellin people one day is the same as the next, but they don't believe me! LOL.
Norton, I'm glad to see ya around, Marine. Better check me on some of the details on that history stuff. I read it the way others read magazines! LOL. Marines have fought in Cuba several times, Santo Domingo, Haiti, Nicaraugua, and Central America, several times. If we've been there, we've been there before, not just for training but fighting for freedom. That's what gave us an advantage going into WWI and later WWII, We had a battle hardened cadre of officers and NCO's to build around. Most of those boys had years if not decades of experience in guerrilla warfare.

Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin' anyway! Good to see ya. Coffee's on. Grab a cup and get yer head together, why don't ya! LOL.
Boy, you talk about **** hittin' the fan around my place lately! LOL. Family emergency after family emergency, and then the car bites the dust! LOL. It's repairable, but had to scramble fer rides and schedules fer the next few days! LOL. Life is, ain't it. LOL. It happens like that, sometimes. Makes it easier to appreciate those times when everything's goin' right, don't it.
I've seen a few posts by a couple of the wannabes lately that are pretty good. Hell, even if they fakin', they're gettin' the right idea. Gives us a chance to teach them a thing or two here and there, don't it! LOL. Pretty soon, they won't have to fake at all! LOL. Couple of them I get kinda aggravated at, but hell, I have fun with them, too. People are peole, I've always figured. Little kids, pros, middle class, rich, it don't matter, same things work with one as work with the other. Treat them like people, hold them accountable, teach them what ya can in the time ya got, and it all turns out pretty good. Least, that's been my exprience. Now, I ain't talkin' about the fools or the stupid ones. That's an entirely different set of circumstances, there! LOL. Hell, I've been stupid a time or three myself! . Really! LOL.
I have noticed, that with some, ya gotta get them mad or upset before they even think to listen to what yer sayin'. Some folks'll stand right in front of ya, eye to eye, and they don't hear a thing. They're too busy thinkin of what they're gonna say when you shut up! LOL. They haven't heard a thing. The old story about the farmer and the mule, ya know. Ya don't know that one? Well the old farmer hitched up his mule to the wagon and him and his wife went to town. The mule stopped. Farmer couldn't get it movin', so he reached in back of the wagon fer his motivatin' tool, a 2x4, and said, "That's one." and hit the mule in the head and the mule started pullin toward town. A little while later it happened again. "That's two" and the farmer hit the mule again. About half hour later the mule stopped again. "That's three" yelled the farmer and he shot the mule dead in his tracks. His wife screamed, "What did ya do that for ya old fool." The farmer calmly looked at her and said "That's one."
Anything short of a 2x4 usually works fer most folks. Try the easy way first, but...sometimes ya gotta get their attention first! LOL.
Warm up yer coffe folks. If we pay attention, we might get it right sooner or later. Maybe! When we pay attention, we gotta pretty good chance to do it better next time! It's a good day. Make the most of it.

Mornin all. Well, I'm back. Left Eastern Oregon on Friday morning at approximately (after we were already on the road and the wife remember stuff she needed) 0830 MT and arrived on the Southern Oregon Coast at approximately 1730 PT. My Uncle recently died and we took the most recent addition to the family to meet my grandfather and to be with him. He's had two sons die - his only chidlren. On Sunday we headed up to Salem to see my mother and let her see the kids, no point in travellin all that way and not stop in to see her. Monday morning, after having to go to the Oriental Market, we got on the road at approximately 1130 PT and arrived home at approximately 1930 MT. That's a lot of driving in that short a period. Give or take, about 1000 miles. It was good to see family but it's good to be home as well. Got bunches of catchin up to do in here and on my email. Good thing tomorrow is a scheduled day off for me! Y'all take care and have a good one.

This morning - Got some of that French Roast? Rude stuff. Slaps my lips and gets me up and moving. Work's been slow - in my business that is a good thing - but hard on me as I like to keep busy.
Cold this morning. Finger nippin cold! Supposed to get either rain or snow in the next few days. Finally got some snow on the hills - just a start I think. We need a good wet winter. My pasture is weeds and no amount of spraying will help it out. The drought resistance of the weeds is spectacular and the grass just kind of hangs on. I need to talk to the County Extension Agent to see if there is something I can put down this Winter to knock the weeds back and accelerate the growth of the grass.
Horses won't eat the type of weeds we have and we end up feeding a lot of hay. Hay is expensive so we ended up cutting back on our herd but it still costs $2-3,000 a year to feed. With the economy down we weren't able to sell the last two head we had so we are going into the Winter with more horses than either of us would like. But maybe next Spring things will look better and we can get down to just our saddle horses and one brood mare.
I have found that horses are the best teachers of patience. If I am patient I can get just about anything from them. If not - well I get to start over again. I've got this 2 year old tri-color pinto. He's a pretty boy. And smart as a whip. Jan says I'm spoiling him with apples each evening. But he sure enjoys the time and gets frustrated that I only share part of it with him. He gets a slice and then I get a slice. But he will do anything I ask of him. Next Spring he gets to be ridden. He's OK with the saddle and headstall so I don't think he is going to be a major problem to ride. Most of our stock just have to figure out that we want them to move once we get in the sadddle.
Well I reckon I'll continue my march here. Hope you all have a superb day - Best to your girls Hawk, Thanks for the kind words Bones, Barrio I think you and I live pretty close to one another as I'm in Western Idaho, and to the rest of you - Semper Fi!!

Mornin' folks! How ya doin' this mornin! Coffee's on! Grab a cup and get comfortable! Hell, yer day ain't started yet! Might as well relax fer a minute! Giver yerself a chance to get yer eyes open!
I've had a couple folks say they were afraid to post on this thread fer fear they'd mess things up! Hell, this is what mornin' coffee's all about! Gives folks a chance to catch up on the gossip, see what's goin' on, and hear what the other feller has to say about things. Tell a few bad jokes. Get somethin' off yer chest. Whatever! Gives us a chance to sit and not say a damn thing if we want, too! LOL. Besides, ya can't mess things up much worse than my typin' can ya! LOL. Wait a minute, yer Marines......
you were taught how to mess things up proper, weren't ya!! LOL.
I always enjoy visitin' with ya, and seein what ya might have to say about things. I learn a bit of somethin' everyday from folks around here. I get offline in the mornin' and when I come back online, this is the first place I stop. I like to see what you folks have to say about things. Sometimes you surprise me. Sometimes I'm left shakin' my head. Other times, I'm just amazed! I always like to see what the other feller has to say. Hell, who knows. I might learn somethin'! LOL.
It's a good day, folks. It's snowin' hard. Temperatures dropped to 13 degrees. A good day fer a hot cup of coffee, don't ya know. Lots of things goin' on, lots of things to visit about. Lots of things to consider....like who's gonna shovel my deck and sidewalk llater on.....LOL.
Don't be afraid of nothin', folks. Mornin' coffee is fer kickin' back and gettin' yer head straight before ya start the day. Plan things aout a bit. Considerin'. Maybe even meditatin' over stuff that's botherin' ya. It's a new day. A new beginning. Another chance to get it right. Another chance to do it better. We'll get there one of these days!
Warm up yer coffee, folks. We're good to go around here.

Well Winter is finally coming to Idaho. Snowed a butt load in Burley this AM and heard they are allready having wrecks. I can hardly wait for the snow here. Jan s moving the horses around as we have a young foal who has yet to see his first Winter and ought to have some shelter. If I'd get off my butt and start banging nails I'd get another shelter built. Been slacking off and need to get cracking on a new project before the ponies turn white.
One of my Brothers from my old unit is communicating with a girl in Russia. She wants to get married and we are all telling him to cool his jets a bit as there are some good partners probably a lot closer to home. He's like the rest of us - had a few wrecks instead of marraiges and is a bit leery of the home town ladies.
Work is good and I am glad I have this opportunity to serve my country in a different facet than before. Seeing these young kids come in with struggles and watching them get it together and become partners is real gratifying. Not everyone does that - but by and large they do real well with a little assistance and direction. Sometimes what comes through the door is not so good and it pains me to see the amount of problems folks can tolerate before they finally throw up their hands and ask for help.
Well Thanks for the java - French Roast in the cup above - slaps me awake in the day!! Bless you all - -

Mornin' all...Well, seems fall has lasted but a couple weeks here. Got some wind. Had a bit of rain, yeah Norton, you can blame me, I was pushin them clouds from the west side on over. Finally caught up with 'em around Vale and it rained on Tuesday. Sorry about that! Not so much in the ways of rain today, just wind and it's a cold wind. Figure we'll have wind for the next few weeks, seems to do that around here - once in the spring and again in the fall. Snow should be here by the end of next week - if we're lucky it'll wait an extra week or two. No doubt we should have some by Thanksgiving. I don't shovel the snow on my drive. Good mornin' folks! It's good to see ya! Coffee's on, grab a cup and sit a spell! Get yer head right, relax and plan out yer day!
What are we talkin' about today? LOL. I don't have a clue!
I would like to say somethin' about folks like the LT who checked out lately. Ain't much a person can say or do, really. I've grown used to people checkin' out on me over the years. To be honest, it doesn't bother me like it used to. I get an empty feelin' fer a bit, but I get over it. I feel more for the families and the folks left behind, really. In my point of view, folks make their own decisions, and whether they're right with their maker is/was between them and their maker. Other than that, we don't have much control over folks checkin' out, no matter how it happens. If ya can't control somethin', It's damn foolishness to let it bother ya, I think. Hell, I'm still workin' on that one, too.
Thing that bothers me most about Marines checkin' out, some don't figger it they way I do...well, to me, folks like the LT, they've still died in service to their country in my opinion. A person is different having served. Some things are harder. Some internal conflicts are diffficult to resolve. I can understand what might bring a person to do such a thing. Yes, I can. I struggled with that sort of decision for years myself. It is a complex thing and at the back of yer mind is the Corps at all times. For me it was. That's one of several reasons that I've said that death and I were old friends. He don't scare me much anymore. I've seen his face too many times. He's just a helpless bully is all. Our time here is limited in any case. When it's time to check out, it's time to check out. Not much we can do but remember the folks who've gone before. Keep them in our hearts and minds and keep livin' just to spite death and destrution.
Wasn't my intention to go this way with this, but I felt somethin' had to be said. Might bring peace to someone, maybe. Make it a little easier to deal with such a thing. Folks like the LT will be there on guard duty when it's our turn to get transferred out. We'll see them all there, is my thinkin'. They are casualties in the fight for freedom. It just took a bit longer for some to drop dead is all. Got to admire them fer the strength in hangin' on as long as they did. One of the reasons I admire you folks. Your still hangin on. It takes strength to do that.
Be strong Brothers and Sisters, Our times comin' soon enough.
It's a new day. Always another chance to get it right. Always another chance to get it better.
Warm up yer coffee and get yer head together! We'll get it right before we're done!

Good Mornin' Folks! How ya doin' today! Coffee's on, get some and grab a set and relax before ya start yer day! It's gonna be a good one! Life is like that sometimes, don't ya know! LOL.
I've had a whole boatload of compliments lately. I guess I'll just have to get used to it. Just bein' me is all. Good, bad, pickin' my nose, and everything else! LOL. Who woulda thought I was a human bein' huh? LOL. Well, I appreciate it, folks. Comes from bein rode hard and put up wet too many times! LOL.
Experience.
Haven't been too successful in life, but I've paid attention here and there. Been down the road and done a lot of different stuff over the years. Met a lot of different kinds of folks, too. I like to think that I learned something from my interactions with all of them. Some of them wouldn't think so, though! LOL.
I've also read a helluva lot of books over the years. Little bit of everything really, from psych to history, to the classics...all kinds of things. Maybe not what I should've read, but I learned from it.
Readin gives a man things to think about durin' those long nights that we all have from time to time. Somethin' besides what's runnin' through yer head to keep ya awake. I like watchin' movies, too. That seems to help me as well. I haven't examined that as much as I oughta, but it seems to relax me when nothin' else will. Havin' a drink now and then helps, but that can get to be a problem all on it's lonesome if ya ain't careful! LOL.
Somethin' else that helps, at times is to find someone to visit with. Maybe someone who needs a little bit of bein' listened too. Kinda gets yer mind offa yer problems fer a bit if yer busy helpin' someone else take a look at theirs. There's always a couple of folks who need to talk fer a bit around here later on at night. Now, here's my kicker, back to the point. You folks do me as much good as I could ever do fer you. That's what we're all here for. Semper Fidelis! Marines!Brothers and Sisters. Family whether we like it or not! LOL.
I'm here for ya, folks. Just as I know yer here for me.

Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin'? Grab a cup of joe and have a sit! Relax! It's Saturday fer cryin' out loud! Time enough to get things done after a bit! Well, siddown! What the hell ya lookin' at me for! LOL.
You folks know how I've talked about "life is"? Some days are good that way and some ain't? Well, yesterday was an example of how life is kinda rough! LOL. For me anyway! Lots of simple things on my "to do " list, and wasn't a single one of them got done the way it was supposed to! I was usin the back-up plans to my back-up plans and then gettin creative just to break even! LOL. Whole friggin' day was like that! LOL. Life is.
One of the advantages to bein' a Marine. Some things just don't get to ya anymore, 'cept to think, "Damn, It's just like bein' on active duty!" LOL. Sometimes little things get on my nerves, but with yesterday, my mind just got concentrated. I went after it, one thing at a time. Priorities. Get the job done no matter what it takes kinda thinkin'. One thing didn't work, so I tried another, and another, and another, til it was over and done with. The Marine Corps did that for me. Any emergency I can handle. Improvise, adapt and overcome.
Oh, I ***** and moan about stuff, but things don't bother me much, really. Everything can be handled 'cept fer life or death, and that can be dealt with. It's a matter of settin priorites and plannin' things out, then follow through with the plan. Usin' back-up plans if neccessary. What? I never mentioned back-up plans before? Well, hell, I'm sorry! Ya always gotta have a back-up plan! LOL. Now ya know!
Warm up yer coffee folks! It's a new day! Another chance to get it right, if ya plan things out! LOL. Hell, if yer back-up plans are any good, ya just might get it better! ;)

Morning All....
Yeah bones, back-up plans are good but ya gotta make sure you have a plan to begin with before goin and makin the back-up plans!
Doesn't look like it's gonna get any warmer here. Currently, 20 with a 'real feel' of 12. Brrrrrrrrrr. I like it though. Yeah, I'm nuts. Got bunches goin on today, oldest kid has volleyball, then I have to go to work for 16 hours, come back home for nearly 8 off then go back for my regular shift on Sunday. Oh well, it helps to get some time off later on in the month. So the rewards are worth it. Still, gonna be tired come Sunday mornin... and Monday.. maybe even Tuesday. LOL
Y'all have a great one,

It's Saturday, but then again everyday is Saturday when you're retarded.
Speaking about retirement, having a community meeting at my home this morning, people upset with some local School Board decisions, don't blame them, sort of helping them out. LOL
School Board members and superintendent of schools really wished I didnt educate folks that way. already have forced them to re-visit the vote by written request, citing cCalifornai Educational Laws. First time this has happened around here, where a citizen places an item, especially an item they have already voted on, on the agenda.
Well we'll see what developes.

How ya doin' folks! Coffee's on! Grab a cup and get some! We're into winter here! Temp's in the 30's and colder at night. Had three snowfalls to speak of, and it ain't meltin' a bit! That coffee's tastin' better and better! LOL.
There hasn't been much posted lately on the site, but what I've seen has been some quality stuff! Even most of the humour! LOL.
There's been a lot of new folks checkin' in lately too. Glad to see y'all. Welcome aboard. Welcome Home Marines! It's good duty fer the most part. I'll let ya know right now, promotions around here are based on participation! So....if ya want that big pay check, ya better get involved! LOL.;)
Another mornin' I don't have squat to talk about! Yeah, yeah. I know it's hard to believe. I've been doin' a bit of research and lookin' up stuff about Marine Corps history and such. Where we're goin' from here. Gonna take awhile to finish up on it so it can agitate in the ol’ BHG til somethin' worth while pops out. Lots of stuff to learn that I didn't really know before. Lots of details that aren't part of normal Marine Corps training. Go figure! So far, aside from politics, it's all good stuff that I'm, learnin' too. It seems to be worth the time.
I've said it other times on the site, and yesterday First Sergeant Mike mentioned it in one of his posts as well. We've got a chance to shape the future of the Corps on web sites like this. Give the new guys and wannabes and DEPers and Poolees some info that they might not get otherwise. Make sure they're better educated goin' in than some of us were! Hell, I was just an ignorant hillbilly when I went in. Look at me now! LOL. Still an ignorant hillbilly, but I'm learnin'! LOL. ( Shut up Rat. When I want your opinion I'll give it to ya! LOL:D)
Warm up yer coffee folks. It's Sunday. Relax and enjoy. Spend some time with the family. When ya get a chance, stop by leatherneck and share what ya know with the rest of us.
That's one way we can make sure the FNG's will have a chance to do it better. Who knows, they might even get it right! LOL.
It's a new day! Beginning a new week. New opportunities folks. New things to do and to learn.

Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin'! Coffee's on, make sure ya grab a cup!. Cop a squat and relax fer a bit. The workin' week is startin'! Plan out yer day so yer ahead of the game! LOL.
Honor is on my mind today.Yeah, yeah, yeah, but ya gotta try! LOL. Seems different folks have different meanings and different leels so to speak. Honor can get ya killed or help ya keep yer self respect. There's times to fight, and times to move on, ya know!
It means ya do what's right no matter what. Whether anyone else agrees or not. It means ya do yer best to keep yer promises, or ya don't make too many promises to begin with. Of course, I'm still workin' on all this, ya know. It means many things to different cultures as well, from what little I've seen. Some of youhave learned that lesson far better than I.
Honor. I've seen it in a quote from a Marine on Corregidor just as the fightin really began. A Japanese diarist stated 'Today we have encountered a new kind of enemy. They come walking to the front yelling, "Hey Mac. where the hell are you?" They are completely without fear.'
Honor. Honor is without compromise.
You Marines know what I mean. It is not a matter of self justification. It is something almost indefinable, although much has been said about it over the centuries. With Honor, there is great hope for the future. It holds us all accountable for our words and deeds. Personal accountability. Seems like I've mentioned that before, haven't I?
Warm up yer coffee, folks. It's gonna be a good day. we got another chance to get it right. We got another chance to do it better!

Mornin all... and it's a cool one at that. Almost cool enough for me to grab a cup of coffee... almost. ;)
Honor... It's one of the reasons I joined the Corps. I think it's also one of the reasons many in the other services envy us. They see our honor. Honor to the Corps, honor to each other, honor to our history and the honor we bring to ourselves. And the pride we have in our honor. I'll pose the question; Is honor worth dying for? Ultimately, I would say it is.
Well, it's my weekend. A well deserved rest ahead for me. Y'all take care and be safe.

Coffee was excellent this morning. It seems that I look forward to Mondays nearly as much as I do Fridays. Guess I can't have one without the other. Was a short weekend - aren't they all? But got to go spend some time with my Son and my two Grand daughters. They are such a kick. Laughing and shooting their Grand dad with nerf rockets.
My partner and I are continuing this wonderful adventure through life. Jan's school is still doing well. She had another bugger of a test last week and she was at it for a day and a half. Ethics in the world of attornies. Ethics isn't always so clear cut and she found that out quite quickly. What may be right and what is right are two different things. She continues to do A work though. Her instructor gave her an "Excellent."
Work is busy. It seems that just when I think we are slowing down something else comes up that puts us in busy mode. I prefer busy as opposed to the boredom of trying to find something to do.
Well onward and upward. It's a chilly 20 degrees out but the sun is shining and no wind. Not a lot of warmth in the sun but it sure is pretty. Quite a world we live in.
I was cogitating on what you all were talking about with the word "Honor." Pride in doing what is right. Helping others who don't have it as good as I do. Being part of a team. Being a part of the best team in the world. Even if it is only in my heart. Veteran's Day is coming up and I think I am going to go out for the ceremony this year at the local graveyard. I don't know most of those folks but I want to stand and salute the flag and listen to Taps being played soft and slow. Think about those I left behind and those who will be forever young.
All of my best to all of you - - have a superb day - -

Mornin' folks! What ya lookin at me like that for! I thought somebody else had the watch yesterday! LOL.
Coffee's on folks! Grab a cup and get comfortable! It's a new day. Oh, hell, There were some problems to get sorted out yesterday that I had to work on. I think they're workable for now. We'll haveta see. I hate patchin things without gettin them fixed don't ya know! LOL. Some of you folks have offered me some badly needed support over the last few weeks. I greatly appreciate it! It's all good.
Well, what were we talkin about anyway? I see Norton has a helluva way with words. I might have to draft him for this when I get sick now and then. It's just like the local coffee shop fellers. Sometimes we don't all get in here at the same time or on the same day! It don't mean you can't have coffee without me! LOL.
I see the Republicans got the Senate again. 50-48 with two independents. That oughta make things interesting!
Janklow from SD won his house seat. Looks like Johnson won his. So we got a split goin into the House this time. That'll be interesting as well, Janklow is pretty outspoken. Ya wouldn't think a former grunt would be that way, now would ya! LOL.
On to other things! Ya see that Joe Foss is down hard now. In a coma. Got him in an extended care facility in Scottsdale AZ. Had a stroke, basically. 87 year old MOH winner. Winger, too! LOL. Yeah, there's been a couple of Wingers get that one. Not all officers either! LOL. Foss is from SD, he was Governor here back when a lot of us were still being born. Ok, ok, a lot of us soon to be old farts anyway! I don't have bi-focals. Yet. LOL.
We've got some good weather coming up here. It's been kinda nice, really, so far. Hasn't got below zero yet. Hills are always easy to look at no matter what weather we're havin'. Just makes drivin' kinda iffy in the winter sometimes. LOL. I've driven in blizzards. I've driven long disitances here when it was 40 below. I've driven in over a foot of snow. Well, sometimes the snowplows aren't out that early! LOL. It was all beautiful, but ya always keep in the back of your mind, that if ya screw up or break down, it could get nasty! LOL. That's why ya always get ready for it!
Lots of things in life are like that. Ya gotta watch them close, no matter how beautiful it is. ( Gives Sparrowhawk a chance to say somethin' here, don't ya know! LOL).
Life is, folks. It's good most days. Some days are total crap, especially if ya didn't learn nothin new. That's life! LOL. Ya gotta pay attention, folks. Life just might get ya if ya ain't careful! LOL. If yer lucky, it'll get ya with somethin' good more often than bad!
We can only hope sometimes, no matter how much preparation we've done.
Warm up yer cup and set a spell folks! Day ain't started yet. You got some time! It's a new day. New hope inna new day, if yer lookin for it. Might even get it right this time if ya ready. Maybe do it a bit better if yer prepared a bit.

But I appreciate the words Bones. My Granddad and my Dad called it Cowboy Musings. Sitting around a branding fire early in the mornin' and drinking coffee stout enough to eat the spoon. Seemed that we had a code then about work, animals, and getting the job done right the first time.
I think it made life as a Marine a natural for me. I could take the mental and emotional stress quite well as the rules were always the same. The physical part was pretty easy really. I'd spent my life working and the Marines was just an extension of that life. Up at 0400, grab a few biscuits, cup of hot coffee and then it was wrangling stock, gettin' the ropes loose, and then working cows most of the day. Not that we didn't have fun as it was fun. The only tough time I had was running. I'd had asthma as a kid and I nearly didn't get in the Marines due to it. But the Doc that gave me the physical decided that my Dad was right - I was past it. Boot camp ran it the rest of the way out.
As little kids we'd be the ones who had to grab the calves when the men drug them to the fire. Sometimes a larger calf could keep a couple of us busy trying to hold them down while others notched their ears, branded, and castrated them. But we had a code that I still live by today. When you partnered up with someone it meant something. Riding fence in the Winter, stringing wire, looking out for one another, and making sure we all made it back to camp in one piece.
The Marines were no different. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate between the Corps and cowboying. I think when I was packing up in Big Creek I worked longer hours under much more difficult situations but after Viet Nam there wasn't anything I couldn't do it seemed. Except sleep - -
Well enough for today - the horses were nickering this morning when I came out to leave for work. They know that after I leave Jan will be out in a few minutes for the morning feeding. Gotta love it I think. And Bones is correct - if you don't learn something during the day - you aren't trying hard enough. Just seeing the sun come up was enough to reinforce my belief that we are in a beautiful space - and we need to watch those sunrises for those who cannot anymore - our duty is to remember and know that our fallen Brothers and Sisters would not want us to be sad - but to enjoy the days as they come in their memory.
Take care - I am off for the next few days so will probably be back on Tuesday - Have a superb Veteran's Day - all of you. You've earned it -

Mornin' folks! Come on in! Coffee's on, grab a cup and sit. This ain't cowboy coffee, but it'll do! Paper'll be here after a bit! I got the front page and the comics first! LOL.
It's warmin' up a bit. Our version of Indian summer! LOL. It only gets to freezin' at night right now! LOL. It's gotta be better than over a hundred degrees and forrest fires everywhere, though! If Janklow acts anything like he did as governor when he hits the House in DC, it'll be fun to watch! LOL. He told the feds how it was gonna be or else over those fires this summer. Man didn't take no crap from anyone! Plus he was right and he knew it! He played by their rules a couple of years ago and near 90,000 acres went up in smoke all at once!
Bill Janklow is a Marine. he did a couple years in the late 50's early 60's.
Marines are like that though. Least from my experience. Sooner or later they'll tell ya what's on their mind. Usually sooner. There's too much ridin' on it to be playin games or BS'n folks. We get used to it.
I try not to BS ya too much here. Oh, I'll have a bit of fun, but I'll try to let ya know what I really think somewhere along the way.
I'll try to let ya know what I figure about things as well. Important things, I think. Some of you have been here for coffee every day since we started gettin together. Good on ya. Hope we learned something together. I've learned somethin' every day. Folks have always got somethin' to say that others can learn from. Hell, I even learn from old fools. No matter how big a fool, you can learn how he lived to be old if nothin' else! LOL.
That's my big hope around here. That maybe I've helped someone to learn somethin' here and there. I don't tolerate fools well, though. I try to examine them from a distance if I can. LOL. I can't always do that of course. Sometimes....well, I'm still learnin'!
I ain't got it all right folks...but I'm workin' on it.
Long as we keep workin' on it, we'll do alright. Sooner or later we're bound to get it right ain't we? If we're lucky, we'll learn to do it better one of these days!
It's a new day folks! A new start!

Morning all...
It has warmed up a bit - 35 degrees this morning! No ice on the windshield. That's a good thing. I thought I'd hit my snooze button on my alarm clock, turns out I turned the damn thing off. Kid woke me up at 8:27 - she has to be in class by 8:45. Good thing we only live about 5 minutes from the school. I reminded her that she is to check on me at 8:00 if she doesn't hear me moving around. But, as long as I'm up in time to get her to school, that's all that matters.
Drifter, sorry to hear about your sons knee. I myself have blown out my right knee about 10 times between wrestling, football and the Marines. If it's really cold out, can't even bend 'em. Tell yer kid to do all the excersizes the therapist gives him to do. It will help in the long run. When we are young we don't think about walking when we're past 30. Doing them excersizes will keep him walking for a long time.
Well, that's about all I got for today. Y'all have a great one. Semper Fi!

'Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya! It's good to see ya this mornin'! Life is good ain't it! Paper'll be here in a bit. We'll see what they have to say about what's goin on in the world won't we! Ya never know!
It's been a good day. Car's in the shop and will be for a week. Seems the part we need isn't on hand, plus the electrical sysem is screwed up. Got to find rides for the ol lady and ysself and play the VA game plus give my little brother a hand with his VA thing. Got leaves to rake up while the weather holds, if I'm ambitous.
Lots of challenges! Little things. They often aggravate me, but it seems that they're not botherin me much right now for some reason. I deal with them and move on. I got a pocketful of troubles on top of that, but life is. There's only so much you can do, and then ya gotta let things sort themselves out. Once you've done everything you can do, all you can do is wait it out. Hell read a good book while yer waitin'. Spend some time with the kids or the ol lady. Kick back in the easy chair. Mow the yard. Get yer garden ready fer winter.Clean off the desk...as if mine ever gets cleaned off any more! LOL. Watch a good movie.
That philosophy works with most things in life. Whether it's training people, leading them, teaching, work, financial, career, raisin' kids, death or illness. It might not be pleasant, but once you've done everything there is to do, all you can do is kick back and watch and hope. Just as well learn to relax fer a bit, til the time comes you can do something else. Time maybe to do more, maybe put the rest of yer plans into action. There's always that time between when ya have to wait. That time when ya can't do nothin'. It makes ya feel kinda helpless, but don't feel helpless if ya done all ya can do. Learn to relax and accept it. Keeping in mind, that yer plans are still workin. If they ain't workin' you might need to change them or adjust them, but that's a different topic for another day.
Life is, folks, and there is a time for everything. Maybe another topic we'll visit on one of these days. A time for everything.
Warm up yer coffee and set a spell. Day ain't quite started yet. Relax fer a bit. If ya done all you can do, maybe it's time to wait and see if ya planned it right. Might even get it right if ya sit fer a bit and think about it while yer waitin. It's a new day. We got time.

There's a story about a police unit staked out in a roadhouse parking lot at closing time. Amongst the departing customers was an obvious drunk. He staggered from car to car, using his key to determine which car was his.
When everyone else had driven out of the parking lot, and only one vehicle was left, he opened the door, and prepared to drive off.
"Gotcha!"
But when he beat the breathalizer and ALL other sobriety tests, he responded to the policemen's question with, "Oh, I'm the designated decoy."

Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this morning! It's good to see ya!. It's Saturday! Kick back, watch a college football game. Relax a bit if ya can!
Well, of course coffee's on! Grab a cup and set a spell!
There's been a lot of new folks on the site latey! I'm glad to see it! We got several officers around folks. Wonder if we have to watch our P's and Q's now? LOL. I've met a few of the new guys in chat. Had a lot of fun. Really enjoyed visitin' with them. I think we even got one Marine to keep Rich company on that last watch! I spent some time visitin with folks on the phone here and there lately. Seems like we got a pretty damn good bunch here. Some of you fellers are gonna have to start callin me, though. At least for awhile! LOL. That phone's starting to feel like it's part of my BHG! LOL.
Yep. It's another day where I brag on ya a little bit!. Seen some real insightful posts the last few eeks. Lots of interesting manifestaions of something called humour, too! LOL. I don't have a sense of humour myself......I can appreciate it in others though. Like my brother catching me out doin a couple of stupid human tricks this week. He laughed and is still laughing! I can appreciate that. Of course I had to threaten his life just for form's sake, you understand. Ain't my fault his car has the fuel guage on the wrong side of the dash! I ain't tellin ya what the other one was!
Learn to laugh, folks. Learn to laugh at yer self. It's healthy. It's good for ya! It's all good. We all make mistakes and then try to cover them some way or other. Laugh, fix it, and move on. We're good to go.
Paper's mine when it gets here! I get the front page and the comics first! What? Hell, it's my paper....don't worry, I read fast! LOL
Warm up yer coffe! It's a good day. Gotta new chance to laugh at yer self. I think it'll help ya get it figured out if ya learn how to do that!

'Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin'! Coffee's on! Grab a cup and get comfortable! It's gonna be kinda busy fer some folks. Better get rested up and get yer yeys open! LOL.
Some of ya got to get ready er the Marine Corps Ball tonight! Happy Birthday Marines! And Marine families as well! Hell, they gotta put up with us! LOL.We got Veteran's Day tomorrow, too. Hope some of ya remember that tonight when yer celebratin.' Tip one to the Brothers who've gone before. Without them, well, it wouldn't be the same now, would it.
It's a good day folks. We got some snow today. Just cold enough to wear a coat from the car to inside whereever ya goin'. LOL. You folks who gotta work outside, make sure ya bundle up good this winter. Don't want anybody catchin' pneumonia, now, do we! LOL. You folks in the southwest, just as well ignore that, unless ya goin' to the mountains! Ain't nothin' like gettin outta town fer a bit only to find ya ain't dressed to go outside! LOL.
This is a day to celebrate folks! It's our day. United States Marine Corps. Remember the legacy. Remember the legends that have gone before. If we do that, we'll never fail. We'll always get it right. Hell, they left a challenge. Damn if I know how we could ever do it any better!
Semper Fidelis, Marines!

Good Mornin' fols! How ya doin' this mornin'? It's always good to see ya! I see NamNuts' got the coffee started around mid watch, so we'll finish that off and fix some more in a bit.
Always good to see ya around NamNuts. Ya see Dane, tell him I said howdy, would ya? I'll drop him an eamil later on maybe. I oughta do that anyway! Hell, I never remember nuthin' I meant to do that yesterday! LOL. I got tied up around here, tryin to play catch up. I got busy yesterday! LOL. Who'd a ever thought a man could be so busy and not be workin'! LOL.
Today's Veteran's Day, and yesterday we had the Marine Corps Birthday! Couldn't be better in my opinion! The local paper started Veteran's articles on Saturday! ront page was near full of them today. Maybe they got a clue! Fer no more people than there are around here, there's a lot of stuff planned today! Good on 'em.! It's about blasted time I say! Time to take a few and remember. Tjhose who've gone before. Those who died...and those, like most of us, who served. We carry the tradition. We carry the torch. We will not let our brothers down. Always remember.
Have a drink. Remeber. Those we remeber set a standard. They taught us how. We've taught, or will teach others.
I'm proud of you, Marines. Semper Fidelis...and Welcome Home!

Morning Jarheads (*pours a cup*) Happy Marine Corps Birthday & Veteran's Day from the Western Upper Pennsula of Michigan. Got here 1700 Thursday evening -trip went without any problems (auto-pilot). The party started around 1900 LOL. Thank God that's over. (you notice it's Monday, right Bones....) As soon as I can figure out the scanner issue, I will have Marine Corps Ball photos to post. Great turn-out this year. I think Brother Leroy and I did as many Marines would on the birthday - drank a couple beers (it would be sacrilege not too..) and read Marine Corps Gazette - on the new AH-1Z and new UH-1Y. Before that, I read the issue with Chesty in it. Then we watched Hamburger Hill - even tho it 'is' an Army movie....
LtCol W.D. Kelly HMM-361, retired - my 'Commanding Officer' - here - and I had the 'setting the standard' talk Saturday nite at the Ball. The Marines set the standard so high, that for 227 years, the rest of the civilian world wonders what we do every year on 10 November.
The obvious answer - make it through boot camp, and see for yourself.

A bit restless, but all my girls will be home so, it'll be a soft, quite day.
Getting ready to go to the train depot, drop off one daughter, and the other one will be off to school as well, gosh darn universities around here won't close for Veterans Day, and that bugs me especially when they will close for ML king day.

Wasn't for this damn stroke crap and then breaking my only operating right side i would of made the operation myself!

'Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin'! It's always good to see ya! Coffee's on! Get a cup and get yerself set up! Paper'll be here after a bit. Grab a seat and make yerselves comfortable!
Let's see, I had somethin' to visit over today....what was it now....Oh! That's right! Nothin' big. Just wonderin' about things is all. Sometimes ya get to wonderin' about somethin', ya know. Ya see somethin' goin' on around ya durin' the day and get to thinkin'. Yeah, I know. It's a helluva good way to get in trouble, but I tried it both ways. Thinkin' and not thinkin'. It all seems to get ya in trouble now and then, but that's not what I was sayin' anyway! LOL. I was thinkin' about guessin'.
Ya ever guess when it's important? Kinda lkike gamblin' in a way ain't it! LOL. Sometimes yer just stuck and gotta go with what ya know already. Sometimes ya got the chance to do all sorts of preparations and research and investigation, but what it comes down to, is guessin', really. Ya might know more than anyone in the world about somethin, but sometimes, yer gonna find yerself guessin', no matter how much ya know. Other times, ya don't have what ya need to really do the job, and ya gotta make things up as ya go, based on how ya know it should be done. Now I kow Marines ain't never had to do that.....What? LOL. Hell, I know. I been there! I was just ****tin' ya!
Guessin'. No matter what we do or plan, or how much we know or what kinda materials we have to hand, it all comes down to guessin' really. Will it work or won' it? Will she or won't she? Did I do everything I could, or not? Doesn't matter, folks. We're all guessin' when it comes down to it. Ain't nobdoy any better than the next. Some are just better guessers is all.
Here's to becomin' a better guesser. We'll get it right one of these days. If we keep guessin' right! LOL. It's a new day folks. A new beginning. ;) Warm up yer coffee and set a spell. Day ain't quite started yet. Get yer day sorted out a bit so you can be a better guesser than the next guy! LOL.

*pours a cup* Dammit NamNuts.... I kinda hate admitting being a Lions follower (note I DID NOT say 'fan') after Sunday. Packers are the TEAM to beat this year. And, Farve would've made one helluva Marine. Far as Dane's lil 'gathering at the LZ, I'm waitin for JoeT's debrief - LOL. Should be a hoot. I've got a lil birthday party for my Korean buddy Ken on the 30th planned. He'll be 72. Buncha jarheads comin.... that means mass quanities will be consumed as per SOP.
Great time in Da U.P. - as usual. As soon as I rolled into town last nite, I remembered why I like leaving this shi!hole - people here couldn't drive a sharp pin up a fat pig's a$$ around this town. Had to call Bones 4 or 5 times on my NEXTEL on the ride back. The last time I called, he asked if I threw it out on the freeway yet.... LOL - I replied 10 miles back. Speaking of running things of someone's a$$.............
At any rate, hope each and every one of you Marines had a fine 227th Birthday, and a reflective Veteran's Day. I did. All 528.4 miles home, I looked over at my Marine Corps Gazette, lying in the passenger seat, and saw Chesty's beautiful face on the cover. Usually in that 8-9 hour drive back, I listen to music. I listened to maybe an hour yesterday.
And on the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month.... I was keeping a quote in my mind - and I hope I didn't screw it up.
' For my Corps - anything... For my Brothers - anything... For my family - EVERYTHING... For myself...... the thought had never even crossed my mind'

It's Tuesday - I had a five day weekend and feel much better for the time off. I went to the Veteran's Day ceremonies at the local cemetary yesterday and was quite impressed. We Marines had the best floral arrangement and it was great to meet another half dozen Marines. The 366th Wing had a large platoon of active duty folks there in formation and it was just plain nice to see the men and women as part of the day.
My Brother Irv dug his uniform out from the 70s and it was nice to stand next to him in my field jacket, Marine cover, and my "can't catch me ribbons" on. Saw a lot of the folks I work with at the base and kind of blew them all away. None of them had ever seen me in anything but civvies. They all know I'm a Marine but it is always different when you are dressed up. Felt real good.
I wanted to Thank all of you that sent me a card - it was very much appreciated. The other thing I am learning is to turn my speakers down! That bugle like to bounced me out of my chair this morning! WHO DID THAT!!! LOL
Welcome to the new folks that have signed on! We are a kicked back bunch. Do a lot of reflecting and making sure we are all OK for the day. The coffee is as varied as the personnel and always worth the time to have a cup. I've gotten spoiled here so hope you all have the same experience.
I didn't do a lot on the Marine Corps Birthday. Just sat back and remembered those I left behind. Enjoyed the day as they would not want it any other way. One of the pickers in our music group, we had a jam session on Saturday evening, started playing the Marine's Hymm and I finished by singing "If the Army and the Navy ever looked on Heaven's scene - - they would find their wives are sleeping - - with United States Marines." Cracked everyone up! I can remember singing that verse lots while in the Corps. Pretty funny at the time and still is!! LOL
We've had nearly an inch of rain this past week. I am so glad to see it. We've been in near drought condition for the past several years and there was so much water it was standing in the driveway. It's been in the 50s during the day and down to the high 30s at night. Just perfect weather. But Winter is coming and I'm ready for it. Got my wood cut up and stacked finally also. With Jan studying all day and night I need to find things to do outside to keep out of her hair. Otherwise I bug her about little stuff. So best for her to give me a Honey do list and let me hack away at it.
Well all of you - I hope your day is great and that what you wish for you get - My very best to you this morning!!!
