Is it true that military personnel receive a $50,000 life insurance policy for service?

well, we used to, don't know about now, but I am SURE it's at least that. When I got out in 95, you could also get up to 100,000 if you wanted, and it didn't cost much. couple bucks a paycheck i think.

SGLI is $250K right now. Some of the guys from my unit that deployed last year said they had the opportunity to up it another 50K before they left.

Thats gonna be strange. Filling out my Life Insurance policy, or my Will. 18 yrs old and filling out a Life Insurance policy... damn. Reality sucks sometimes.

Good to take care of things though. Good luck to all.

Lake, I felt the same way. Its also strange going over your RED every time before you deploy. It isn't normal to file a paper with someone telling them what you wanted to wear when you're burried. Somethings just seem strange, but it is better to get it done. Much better to fill out the SGLI paperwork, the will, the RED, et al than to leave your family needing those things.
