At least one metro Atlanta high school has blocked Leatherneck.com on its computer system.
At the same time I read where the webmaster of another metro Atlanta system has been arrested for downloading child porn.
Go figure.

I wonder if they have done the same thing for internet related homework? Darn shame!

My wife is a teacher in a public school, and my guess is they block it because they don't want people "hanging out" on the site. It is easy to do, being the best Marine Corp site on the Web! (Shameless plug for ya Miss Ellie!)

Maybe they're (the PC leftest) afraid that we will STRAIGHTEN OUT the up and coming generations !!

I mean, after all....

Where would this Country wind up if we started using HONOR, COURAGE, and COMMITMENT to base our decisions upon, instead of pansey a$$ed B.S. laws.

It is a good thing, I think, too, Jerry. They are in school to be in school, they can get on here from home or the library.

Could we take it another step and incorporate the same restriction to Public Library Computers? I guess if you are the ISP provider you can restrict access to any website that you might not wish your users to view. Is that how it works? I don't know.

Yes, Gary.
The ISPs, or should I say, the local units (school, Library, corporate HQ, whatever) have or should have firewalls with proxy servers in place. They can be configured to be wide open(very dangerous) to locked down so tight it would be like squeezing a dime between your cheeks while marching. Depending on the situation, the tighter the better. Schools should be locked down, for content purposes. Adult sites, etc. Same with libraries, corporate HQ. These help with virus control, too.

I would lean more towards POLITICALLY CORRUPT

I also agree to keeping school time to school work, but to block them entirely means the class instructor may not have to do their JOB, and supervise the class !!

I personally would be more concerned with virus protection that with them visiting leatherneck.com. That is me, but some would say I am biased. Darn right I am. Semper Fi. The IT guy side of me says firewalls and proxy servers are definately needed. I know how hard corporations can get hurt by viruses.

Students aren't supposed to be surfing the net in the first place.

I worked in the Philadelphia School System for 15 years....We encourage the children that the computer in school is for their Research....not joining chats, clubs, etc...We felt if they wanted to join these activities....they had to do it on their time....School is for learning....I understand that you Marines are teaching the poolees, but it only benifits a few.......and it keeps off the wanabee's that want to start problems......

We blocked certain sites...and porn....at our school......

I think the school might consider our wonderful site as a chat site, since there is a forum.
