Just a thought I'd like to share.
All of us have worked with, over, and occasionally under ****bird marines. We have all run into, or read about maggots who claimed to be x-marines. It was a question that bothered me until I found my answer.
Check out the miracles reported in the bible. A man created from the slime of the earth, a woman created from his rib, water turned into wine, a dead man brought back to life, a blind man given sight, a basket of loaves and fishes feeding a multitude.
In each one of these "miracles", there was something or somebody to work with. I believe with all my heart that MCRD, and after that, the Corps, works miracles. When the miracles don't work, it's because the slime was insufficient.
Thereafter, whenever I saw a ****bird marine, or a maggot x-marine, I still gave thanks to the miracle of MCRD and the Corps, and KNEW that we did the best we could with the slime we had to work with.
"If you think he's a ****bird or a maggot NOW, you should have seen him BEFORE he came to us."
Too bad he can't be recycled. He MAY have progressed enough the first time, for the Corps to make a Marine out of him.
