ALBANY, N.Y.(May 4, 2004) -- Staff Sgt. Christian J Kapey, fiscal chief / supply administration chief, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, was recently awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. The award ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany, N.Y. where Kapey, a Syosset, N.Y. native, received the award from the Chancellor of The State University of New York, Albany, Robert L. King. Kapey received the award alongside 245 other recipients from 61 campuses throughout the State University of New York. The award was created to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized, for their leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, entrepreneurship or career achievement. Recipients must also have maintained a Grade Point Average of 3.74 and made significant contributions to the community and their respective campuses. Kapey, has been in the Marine Corps for seven and a half years and states his goal is to complete his Business Degree, apply for his commission through the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program and then undergo training to be a Marine Corps pilot.
