I am shipping June 7th. I will be a member of the first battalion, alpha company. Anyone know what the first is known for, and how it measures up to the other battalions?

1st Bn is the best. To bad you'll be with alpha. Charlie Co is known as the hardest Co on the depot. I got a chance to talk to the 1st Bn Co Cmdr and it was interesting to see how he took the time to come to our plt's and even talk to a few of us one on one to see how we were and tell us about life in the fleet. I'm messin w/ ya on the alpha co. thing. Although everyone knows Charlies the best

Everyone knows the hardest Marines from PI come from 3rd Bn! That's why they stick them back in the woods away from everyone else :)

Things were different in the 60's....if I remember correctly 1st Battalion at PI was "Blood Alley", 2nd Battalion was "The Twilight Zone" and 3rd Battalion was "Disneyland"......

2nd Battalion, Series 288, Platoon 289.....

fade2black, david43844,

When I went it was the "Thumping Third" 395 "I" 28 Dec 1973.
I also had rumor that it was "Disneylan". They had to keep us away from the rest of the Paridies area because we were a bunch of KILLERS...

OOOH RAA...!!!

I graduated with Plt 1027, Alpha Co, 1st RTBN on November 21, 2003. I probably know most of the DIs inclduing the ones you'll have. If you have any questions about "Ass Alpha" feel free to ask.

Heh alright, here's my first. Why do they call it "Ass Alpha"?

BC22
05-04-04, 09:31 PM
Because it's the easiest company aboard the Depot.

Thats not exactly a plus in my book. But a Marine is a Marine.

I was in 2 BN, PI. Even in 1985, Third Herd had us all beat for tough. Kicked tail in our meets.

How do they choose who goes to each battalion? Is it just random? And how do ya'll know what battallio you're goin to? I hope I get the biggest challenge I can.

In '83, our 1st BN MRCD Parris Island Drill Instructors always told us, "We train you in 1st battalion, 3rd battalion they just beat you, 2nd battalion is for Momma's boys!"

Tell you what, if my back was against a Faluja wall, I would not give a **** what battalion you were trained with!

Drill was a big thing in Alpha Co. Drill is big for all the battalions, but Alpha usually has higher drill scores than the other companies. One of the DIs from Alpha set the regimental drill record about a year ago.

Speaking of drill, my Senior DI was the Plt Sgt for the Silent Drill Plt at 8th & I before he went to the drill field. Talk about a lot of pressure!!

At our Field Meet yesterday the Senior Drill Instructor said 2nd Battalion MCRD PI empasizes drill the most his words were "You better pray you don't get 2nd Battalion, because if you do, you'll see me and in 2nd battalion...we train."

Oh by the way, he had this strange, psycho serial-killer look on his face. Kinda scary..

Remember with 1st Battalion its "One heart, One Blood, One Soul" and if you happen to be lucky and get GySgt Alison for your series GySgt then you'll know pain and drill come hand in hand.

When was in boot camp--on of my D.I. 's was former recon

real scary--oh I forgot to mention I was in 3rd Battalion.

who cares what the differences are. Each Battalion is known for making MARINES. Worry about that. And only that.

We had one of those in a sister company. He was nuts! When we did rappeling he jumped off the rappel tower without holding the rope at all (like he was diving into a pool), just to show that the Marine on belay could stop you! No one would look him in the eye after that! :D

We used to do that all the time when we were giving rappeling classes to Pogue units.

Ahh what a waste. I just recieved my ship package and it seems they moved me from alpha company to india company. That means I'll be with third battalion. Ehh oh well...ass alpha doesnt seem as good anyway. 12 days to go before I get on that bus and hopefully come back as a Marine. This recruit is good to go. OO-RAH!

1st RTBN Delta Co. Plt. 1102 (HONOR PLATOON) Parris Island...ENOUGH SAID!

P.S. I wanted to go to 3rd Battalion to be in the sticks! But we all don't get what we want. We go where the Marine Corps wants us to go!

Lots of talk about 1st Bn

So......

I graduated MCRD San Diego, 1st Battalion, Alpha Company, Platoon 1027, and we were the Honor Platoon

Seems like a trend to me.

Sgt. enviro you know it! All this trash talk about 1st Battalion being losers fired us up back then just like it does me now!

I'll say this as simple as it can be said...doesn't matter the Battalion because both MCRD's produce kick ass Marines!

Parris Island or San Diego...Your still a MARINE! And in my book if you're a Marine you are AOK with me no matter where you come from, even if it's OCS.

Definitely a 1st Battalion trend and Semper Fi!

No Angel - 4th Battalion is for the females.

Although, come to think of it, 3rd Battalion....... ahh just kidding!

It's a pride thing. Marines are a proud bunch. It is necessary to our way of life and for us to be successful. It is the heart of the warrior culture.

I graduated 3rd BN I CO PLT 3074, and i can tell you straight up that 3rd BN is tons harder than 2nd BN, and if your in 1st BN your going to leave very strong! at least thats how it is at MCRDSD, Delta Co practically lived in that pit next to the px (and yet somehow they still managed to be undisiplined and heinous!)

I think 3rd BN would be the best, I hope I get assigned to that batallion. Being out in the sticks would kick ass.

(sigh)

Look. Unless boot has changed alot, there is not much difference between the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd BN. So, to any poolees, just do your best, wherever you get stuck. it's all the same. Things there are timed to the second, and all regimented to a level that most computer programers would be jealous of. the only differences are the personalities of your individual DI's

You got a Ship Package - just don't know it.

It's that huge package of paperwork that signs your ass away to the Corps! (Orders shipping you to boot camp as your first duty station)
