History Channel, VFW contest seeks World War II veterans

As the nation prepares to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is inviting all United States World War II veterans to go online to The History Channel Web site for a chance to win an extraordinary journey to Europe to revisit historic sites from World War II, all compliments of HistoryTravel.com.

The contest is open only to World War II military veterans who are U.S. residents and physically reside in the United States as of April 1, 2004.

The grand prize winner will receive a trip for two: a 12-day/11-night D-Day Battle of the Bulge journey from London to Berlin.

The trip includes roundtrip coach-class air transportation from a major U.S. airport of sponsor's choice near winner's residence; hotel accommodations (double occupancy) for 11 nights; 10 breakfasts and 9 dinners; transportation between London and Berlin; and ground transportation between the airport and hotel in arrival and final departure city.

Contest closes at 11:59:59 p.m.(EDT) April 30. The grand prize winner will be selected on or about May 14, 2004, in a random drawing from all eligible entries received by NMA Entertainment & Marketing, an independent judging organization, whose decisions are final on all matters relating to this contest.

The History Channel also is featuring special programming to commemorate the anniversary.

Beginning with the dedication of the World War II Memorial on May 29 and running through June 6, The History Channel marks the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. Specials include "10 Days to D-Day," "D-Day: The Lost Evidence," "Mail Call: D-Day Special." "IKE: Countdown to D-Day," starring Tom Selleck, will be shown May 31 on A&E.

The History Channel also is seeking veterans who wish to share their story or remembrance online at www.veterans.com. The registry is designed to preserve the legacy of World War II and other veterans.
