I spent two years at MCSF Co. Naples.

It really depends on where you go. Stateside MCSF companies may not have as many ceremonies, parades, etc as we did.

Guard duty for whatever installation needs to be guarded, physical security of buildings and different things inside it.

All in all, it's a great duty, make sure you enjoy shining boots, pressing uniforms, and just looking good. I loved my tour in the Security Force battallion, you will too if you have a good attitude. Expect some messed up hours, guard duty is all about the 0200-0800 watch.

Have fun and good luck at the Depot.

I'm currently in the MCSF Battalion, it all depends on what command you get in the Security Force battalion, the only places that stand actual posts are MCSF Bangor, MCSF Kings Bay and Marine Barracks DC. FAST, Bahrain and MCSF Europe all are reactionary units. I'm with MCSF Europe in Spain and having a blast, seen 13 different countries in 12 months, saw action in Liberia. I've also made some bank doing different things. Yes you do have to look good, but every Marine has to do the same. You get some kick ass training & lots of it. Anyone in my company can go to the civilian SWAT team no problem. And once your tour is done here you go to an Infantry unit, so you'll get the best of both worlds.... If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask...

I forgot that they have consolidated the Europe companies.

tferg78: I spent six weeks in Rota guarding an MPS ship in late 97-early 98. We had a blast in Rota.

Awsome, Thanks guys. I really like to travel. Do all of the batallions travel alot? or just the out of country batallions. I would really like to go to a base in Europe. Do they teach you how to use different weapons? Thanks for the info guys, im leaving June 14. MCRD San Diego. Any advice for boot camp?
Thanks again

well, if you get stuck at Kings Bay you ain't going ANYWHERE! that place is located near a town of about 12000 people, called St. Mary's GA.and there is NOTHING to do there. Jax Fl is about 15 min away, and Daytona beach about an hour.

and yes you learn alot of different weapons. at least we did.

it's CLASSIFIED, , can't tell you. but it is a sub base and you spend a week at a time locked up then a week training. week in lock up, week training. at least that 's the way it used to be.

I am not a Marine, but I asked this exact same question about reenlisting with another b-billet....the example I used was being in Security Forces and then reenlisting and getting into the MSG Program. I was told that its not likely to happen. Here I'll post the link.

What do you do? Everything they tell you to!
Actually, I was at Bangor, too. It's classified for sure, but it's an honor to have been chosen. I did NOT enlist to get it, but was chosen through the PRP program (which probably doesn't exist anymore?).
I loved my CO Lt. Col. Egan and our company gunny was friggin' awesome.

Any chance to wear that uniform and bear the title of United States Marine is worthy of your best. Semper Fi!

PS - learn early who is not cut out to be the best and either help them or get the heck away from them.

PRP is personal reliability program, ie. Bangor, Kings Bay or Pax River.

Rota is awesome, just got back from a 6 month deployment there in Sept., went w/ my 1st FAST platoon, got to go to Germany, Portugal, Cyprus and Lebanon. FAST is sweet, great training and good deployments for the most part. I still miss the spanish women...man, most looked like models, just had to get out of Rota and go to Puerto or Seville. But anyways, like I told another guy on here, just search the forums for security forces, FAST, and prp, there's already tons of post and threads regarding this subject, and if you still have a question you want answered after than shoot me a pm, or ask it on here.

Is it true that MCSF is a 5 year contract instead of 4? I heard you have to serve 2 15-month tours. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was in security forces in two seperate places. Kingsbay Sub Base, and Guam. I was on a 4 year enlistment at the time. Not sure how it is NOW, but back then SF was an 18 month assignment. The reason I ended up in two different places was becuase the NavMag on Guam was being shut down ( I was actually the last person relieved of of a post when the base closed) so I got sent to another SF unit.

Sounds to me like the two 15 month tours you are talking about is MSG duty. a WHOLE different thing.

If you are going to MCSF as a B-billet on your first contract, Yes, it is for 5 years now. I believe that changed sometime last year. The idea is so that you can spend a 2 year tour with MCSFCO, then PCS and still have time to do the 03 thing with your new unit. They were running into problems because Marines would check in and at the end of their tour with MCSFCO they didn't have enough time left on their contract for the monitor to PCS them to a grunt unit before their EAS.

Anyways I'm currently stationed at Bangor, so if you have any more questions feel free to ask. Rah.

I go to recruit training in June. I'm signed up for MCSF PSP, Does anybody know what PSP stands for?

thewookie
02-22-08, 02:37 PM
It's PRP not PSP, and that stands for the Personal Reliability Program. It means that once fully school trained that your going to be around nukes and have the need to get a TS clearance.

Well, you tell me. Yesturday you was the one asking questions, today you sound like you know? The 8152 MOS is a Marine Security Force billet designator. As part of the MOS you can be selected for PRP duty. What you have and what you are going to do is another thing. Graduate boot camp and then you'll find out along the way.

I have a question concerning B billet Marines, I am a Corporal in the 1100 field and i elected security forces as part of a reenlistment. Am I qualified to do a FAST or am I going to go PRP? Also what are some of the things that i can expect from the school, like am i going to be able to have a POV? I would like to deploy with security what are my chances for that?

Am I qualified to do a FAST or am I going to go PRP? You have to be an 03 to go to FAST on an operational level. PRP commands will take NCO's as non 03's and then you just have to learn the ropes.

Also what are some of the things that i can expect from the school, like am i going to be able to have a POV? The school isn't that tough, especially for an NCO. It's challenging and guys do fail, but as long as you go there focused to finish the school then you should have no issues. From what I remember, no POV's are allowed in any schoolhouse environment, and no you can't have one at the basic security forces school.

I would like to deploy with security what are my chances for that. Not very likely as a "regular" security force Marine. FAST Company has different missions and they deploy for the mission, but the rest of the Marines from Marine Security Force Battalion are there to protect hard assets.

It's in Chesapeake, down near the NC border. In the woods off Battlefield Boulevard (rt 168) take a right off Battlefield on Ballahack and just go straight until the base appears. NSA Northwest Annex is the Navy base name.

It's not odd that you can't find it or don't know of the base. When I first arrived at Norfolk airport to attend the basic school I walked out of the airport terminal and found a cabbie, figuring they would know where the base was. The first few cabbies didn't have any clue where the base was, it took me about 5 cabbies to figure out where it was.

So, once you get off Battlefield Blvd and turn right on Ballahack, keep going straight until you're sure there couldn't be any more signs of life, then base will appear on your left.

Stop in the Mariner and have a drink for me....

In 1990 we were the first class to go through at Chesapeake, Va. The base offered nothing to do and we stayed in trailers. I hope they invested some cash into the base by now.

It's been like that for at least 20 years now, Gunny. They just don't let anyone guard nukes, anymore. The Marines at PRP commands are required to have TS clearances and to be school trained on nuclear asset protection.

Today, they only have a few Security Forces posts. The old ones that have been closed/shut down are guarded by Navy and/ or civilians. The ones remaining are mostly nuclear sites guarded by Marines.

Security Forces and/ or time with FAST is not going to hurt your chances to get into the USSS. A good friend of mine who I worked with at the Training Company teaching CQB is now with the uniformed division of the USSS. Of course his resume is thick like a beer can.

The base and training has chnaged alot since I went through in 1990. That range looks great. The range we had was about a 1 mile hump back to the woods and was horrendous.

02-26-09, 11:47 AM
I know the range that you are talking about, it was deep back there. The new range you see in this video was built in the early 90's. When I left there in 99 the range had 10 individual shooting...

We were like the 2nd class to graduate in Chesapeake. We lived in these cramped little trailers and were generally bored to death during down time. They had just started building a gymnasium when we were leaving. Did they still have the 5 lane bowling alley when you were there?

The new rage looks outstanding and it looks like they are getting much more extensive training then we got when I was there. Ive had the opportunity to meet Bill Rogers. Great guy and has some impressive range skills under his belt.

Ah man you stayed in the trailers, I heard about them. When I went through as a student in 94 we were one of the first few classes to stay in the new BEQ's. Much nicer then the trailers, nothing too special, just standard 2-3 man rooms for the NCO's and squadbays for the troops.

Yeah, Bill is a great guy, not only is he a great shooter/instructor but he's got a few patents for holsters and other "gear" he's invented/developed. After he built his range/cell at Training Company, he put all the Combat Weapons and CQB instructors through his course and quite a few of the guys couldn't handle the speed and accuracy for which you have to shoot his drills to pass.

Well I was up at MCSFCO Bangor and although its a lot like kingsbay you will have the time of your life up in washington, you are 45 min out of seattle, 30 min outside of tacoma, and you will have lots of good training with many chances to go to a lot of good schools such as martial arts instructor, Marine combat instructor of water survival, coaches course and many more. The Security forces in the marine corps is very good at making your SRB look good for boards and the most squarded away marines do in fact come from Security forces due to the way they are run. I was a squad leader at bangor and had 22 marines under me and left bangor with a NAM for my accomplishments at bangor, it was a lot of fun and i would go back in a heartbeat

Well, first of all are you a Lance Corporal or are you a Corporal, your avatar lists one thing -- but your profile lists another.

To your first question -- I'd check with the monitor on that one, or the career planners for the latest gouge. I bet each duty station is different. Back in my day most married people got accompanied tours except for Greece where I was because it was only a year long rotation/duty station. Most tours are two - three years and I'd assume those ones are accompanied.

As an NCO - you should have time to take classes, at least on-line, and with a somewhat "set" schedule you should even be able to take them on-ground also.

Are you still at Kings Bay? I'm putting in for there (my packet just left the BN for headquarters) I know theres not much around there, my wife and I are from Jacksonville,FL so thats pretty much my whole reason for going..if she didn't have her job there she would have moved up to Lejeune with me. I mainly just want to know what the daily routine would be like for a NCO. So far I've heard the schedule is something like 4 days on 5 days off? I'll answer this in the open in case it answers another Marines question.

NCO's do not stand a typical post/duty, they do the COG/SOG thing.

I don't know about rent prices/apartment info around there, but the Kings Bay area is very nice and 700 bucks might not get you much -- I went there for a few weeks back in 98 to do a MTT for their DM's and CQB guys.

Good luck, Marine. Security Forces is great duty for an NCO looking for a break from the fleet. Lots of schools out there in the Navy world that you'll be working in. PM me with any direct questions that you have. I might not have up to the minute site specific info. But I've been a COG/SOG, in Greece, taught at the basic security forces school, and finished up teaching at CQB school that's also located at the Training Company and where you go to basic security forces/guard school. So I'm lucky to have a pretty good grasp on things, and I still have contacts down there to confirm things.

I'll actually be heading down that way next month for some deep sea fishing, and I'll be visiting the down-range setup at the Training Company while I'm down there. Semper Fi, Marine -- good luck.

New grunts coming from recruit training go to SOI/ITB then to MCSF school (Training Company), then their duty assignment. So when their time is up with Security Forces, they hit the fleet where they soon find out that they're considered a boot again....

Coming from the fleet as an NCO, you would just go straight to MCSF school, and then your duty assignment.

You become a grunt and if your lucky you get selected for it. Some have to fight to get into it and some are just selected. They dont want Marines who do not want to be there; it lowers the morale of the unit.

This B billet doesnt do squat for promotion, the only thing is that it is a fun thing that not a whole lot of us POGs get to do or see. I would suggest any NCO trying to go through the couse to not think of this as their B Billet.

I believe Bulkyker's comment was in reference to your Aug 1st ship date. Either you missed it or it changed.

Do you have an actual ship date for MCRD? In a previous post of yours, you said you where going to boot camp August 1st. Either you missed it, or it changed.
And at boot camp, you train to become a Marine, not go for MCSF.

What do I have as my avatar? And did you bother to read my profile?

And you'll go where the Marine Corps wants you to go. In other words, you'll find out when the time comes.

Fence, how about a bit more of a profile so the Marines who are going to answer your questions, know who they are talking to.
And try doing a search on the site, as well as the internet, for this info. I know it's been covered here on Leatherneck before.

I enlisted in the Marine Corps initially as just a 0311 infantry, but in order to go to basic training early I was given security forces. Which I know nothing about, I was wondering if it is possible during SOI to somehow drop my Security Forces billet and go to the fleet as a basic Infantryman?

Thanks. I don't think you can do it if you are under contract, but at SOI you should ask and see what they say. You could, fail out of Security Forces school and then you'd get your wish to go to the fleet as a 03 -- but I'm not recommending that.

Good luck.

I figured the USMC had jobs that needed to be filled in every nook and cranny and i had been chosen and trained to hit the fleet in a "B" billet:marine:

Thank you for your responses The Wookie, and SlingerDun. I agree I dont want to fail out of Security Forces in order to get my wish, I was hoping there was another way but am prepared to do what the Marine Corps needs.

Don't feel bad, Leather, most Marines who go to SF duty have no clue what they are getting themselves into. There are lots of rumors out there, but not as many facts. You could get lucky, if you are...

Im thinking about making this my MOS to, so after Boot Camp i would go to VA? Also to can i get my bachelors degree during my time training? Im just trying to figure out what my path would be after Basic.

cna i get my bachelors degree during my time training?

The training days at the SF Training Center are very full -- typically the day starts at 0500 with PT and they end somewhere around 1800 after chow. And once the day "ends" and you're released to the barracks then the fun really starts with field days, various types of inspections, and night time remedial training/incentive PT. You are going to be fully immersed in all things security related and it's a lot for your brain housing group. So, if you think you're going to have time to focus on the training, and some college courses, you are sadly mistaken. I'm not saying it is not possible -- I am saying it's not worth your time, and very likely you won't have time. You will have time once you get done with school and get checked into your SF unit.

Many Marines fail out of Security Forces school, and if you do you can go to the grunts in the fleet and explain to your new First Sergeant why you failed.

Whoa! Dude! How long is this SF school??
I didn't go there, went to a place called Sea School. Evenings were devoted to studying what faced us in the upcoming days, and squaring away stuff that didn't get done on the bosses time. And of course learning how to shine in a grey rust bucket full of Swabbies:marine:

Is it true that MCSF is a 5 year contract instead of 4? I heard you have to serve 2 15-month tours. Correct me if I'm wrong.

NO i do not believe so i mean my MOS is MCSF and im on a 8 year contract
4 year active and 4 year IRR.
June 1st off to MCRD PI

I'll answer this in the open in case it answers another Marines question.

NCO's do not stand a typical post/duty, they do the COG/SOG thing.

I don't know about rent prices/apartment info around there, but the Kings Bay area is very nice and 700 bucks might not get you much -- I went there for a few weeks back in 98 to do a MTT for their DM's and CQB guys.
do u have a youtube channel? lol i seen something on there that says thewookie as there youtube name so jw

So I'm home on boot leave right now and I've been looking around and asking my recruiters about SF but since its not their MOS Im not sure how much I believe their answers right now, but one of them said that I'd be going through 0311 schooling at SOI but he said it'd only be a little more than a month there. Is this true? Everywhere I've looked up says SOI but not a shortened version of it so I dont know for sure.

Sorry to bother you, but quick question about SF. Couple of my fellow buddies have this MO and wondering if them being married and or getting married getting you disqualify you for certain jobs besides presidential security work! The question would be what jobs does it disqualify you for if any?

Thank you,
