Whatever happened to Col. Joe Dowdy?

Colonel Joe Dowdy was removed as head of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force's Regimental Combat Team 1 during the push to Bagdahd. Where is he now?

bobpage: thanks, I did a quick search and the latest intel (press-wise) I could find on Col. Dowdy was his sudden, unexplained, removal (!?) from 1MEF RCT1. Do you have any info on that development?

I was in RCT 1 with one of the battalions, and when it happened we were engaging Al Kut. All we were told was, "Don't ask any questions". I flew back with him from Kuwait a couple of months after the war was over. He never spoke any ill words towards anyone. He is a classy officer, one I am glad I had the privilege to serve under.

I served under Joe Dowdy in Iceland. He was an outstanding officer and leader.
