We all have stories of services to Honor and Remember 11 Sept 2001.
I was honored to be able to take part in three services.
In the second service we had a Color Guard and we also shot the 21 gun salute.
This was in a service by a High School.
We were on a football field.
They had a stand with a large American Flag in the background.
They had seats on the football field with room in the middle for the color guard to present the "Colors"
Also on the side of the seats were more seats , facing those seats.
That's where they had seat till we would be called to fire the "21 gun salute".
Backingup a bit, there was also students from an elementry school there.
These students were seated to the right of our seats.
I thought, they're too close if we're going to fire!
We'll scare them to death!
Initalily we were going to face left, but that would have us firing into the Flag.
So we did a half Right, we placed us facing to elementry students.
When I pull the trigger on that first volley.
I saw some of those poor kids jump about a foot off the deck.
It was a repeat on the next two volleys as we had seven members firing.
I kept saying, I told you so!
Because I had suggested that we move down to the end zone where there was a Flag at half staff.
They told me "Don't worry, its been taken into account."
Those kids must had a story to tell mommy and daddy that night.
All the speeches had the same theme.
"Where was God on 11 Sept 2001", one that drifted away from that was a message of healing and forgiveness.
In my mind, I was questioning;
"How can you forgive someone seeking no forgiveness?"
After 11 September 2001, there were Flags waving and messages of "Standing United".
But as posts and current events aka Baseball players seeking more money have laid those thoughts aside.
It's back to the "Me" and forget covering your six."
Before all this is said and done, we will have to "Stand United"

Semper Fidelis
