THE AMERICAN FLAG
When I see the American flag,
waving in a gentle breeze,
It makes me stand up straight and tall,
I see what every true American sees.
It’s not just a piece of cloth, flapping in the wind,
It represents freedom and liberty to both foe and friend.
I see the white background, it was the start of our flag,
It was of fine linen, that wouldn’t stretch, tear or sag,
The red stripes were added, for the blood Americans shed,
To honor the veterans, both the living and the dead.
The blue was added, to show for the waters we crossed,
For our freedom we would pay, the ultimate and painful cost.
We placed upon the blue, A star for every state,
But it’s still the pride and Honor,
that makes the flag so Great.
It has flown through many hard times, conflicts and wars,
It has welcomed many people, through its open doors.
When I see the American Flag, I swell up inside with pride,
Because I know, for freedom and the flag,
a many of Veterans died.
