Saturday a dear friend died.
His name was Roy Smith a US Army veteran of Vietnam.
He was a cannon cocker, his tour of duty was in 1969.
He was in 155mm and 8 inches cannons.
You might ask Ricardo, who was Roy Smith?
Real a nobody, just a janitor, he was a friend of my daughter.
Once while taking her to work, we got talking about Vietnam.
It was than that I found out that he had served there.
He mention that he had spent sometime up north.
That meant that his battary might have fired missions for the Marine Corps.
I took the liberty to change some wording on the Marine Prayer to make it a prayer for a Vietnam Veteran.
A Vietnam Veteran died Saturday and the world hardly noticed.
Only relatives and friends will shed some tears for Roy Smith veteran of the Vietnam War.

Oh heavenly Father,
A Vietnam Veteran named died today
A Vietnam Veteran brother died today.
There will be no parades or fanfares.
No official Flags will fly at half mast
and only tears from a select few will fall.
Take his hand Lord and lead this Vietnam Veteran home.
Our Vietnam Veteran brother died today Oh, Lord.
Please help his heart to rest and allow his body to be at ease.
Please allow his family to accept your will with Peace.
Good Bye and God Bless, Roy Smith veteran of the Vietnam War.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.

Rest In Peace Roy,
We'll miss you, but we were richer for having known you.

My daughter and Roy were going out to eat.
Later she called back saying that Roy seem disorientated.
My wife told her to take him to the nearest hospital.
They discovered a blood vessel had busted in his brain.
Roy lasted over two weeks.
Last weekend I went to Chicago, to see how he was doing.
He didn't look the same as the Roy, I had spoken to.
Friday, his brother called my wife and said Roy didn't look good.
Saturday morning Roy went to meet our Lord.
May God give him comfort.
We feel sad to lose a friend, but it also reminds us to soon we'll walk that same path.
We been on that jouney since birth.
Some sooner, some later...
It's life...
Now the Community Veteran Parks will take on more meaning.
I plan to pay for a paver on the pathway around that Memorial Park...
