Yuma Marines will definitely be heading back to Iraq along with the West Coast Marines who are replacing Army units there, said a Marine Corps Air Station Yuma spokesman.

"Definitely we have units that will be participating in that," said Capt. Kevin Hyde. "As to how many and when they'll be going, I really don't know."

Until now, Hyde has declined to say whether any Yuma units would be part of the announced troop rotations that will see Marines from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) take the place of 82nd Airborne troops who are leaving Iraq's Sunni Triangle area.

MCAS Yuma is part of the 3rd MAW, which is headquartered at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California.
Department of Defense officials announced months ago that they intended to send West Coast Marines — including aviation units from the 3rd MAW — to replace the Army's 82nd Airborne in the Sunni Triangle area north and west of Baghdad.
