Yes, but there was a motto prior to that - "Fortitudine".
In fact it was worn on the cap on an engraved brass plate.

fortitudine a Latine word with the root being fortitudo : physical strength, courage, moral bravery.
Easy to see who had to take Latin for four years, lol. And the scary part is I still remember some of it.
