Why Me ?*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What makes a Marine ?
You'll know by the time you finish reading:
(Beginning of message omitted)
P.S. One of the reasons I joined the Marine Corps was because of a Lance Corporal whom I never met!
Lance Corporal Jeffery Nashton (I think that is his name).
He was in a hospital in Germany, after the Bombing of the Marine Barracks. He was attached to all kinds of life support devices when General Kelly came in and introduced himself as "The Commandant".
Lance Corporal Nashton tried to mouth something and the General said he could not understand what he was saying.
A nurse then gave Lance Corporal Nashton a notepad.
Lance Corporal Nashton scribbled something on the pad and then handed it to General Kelly.
The Commandant read it, looked at the Marine, and tears filled his eyes at once!
(This is rumored to be the only time that General Kelly ever cried!)
On the pad, were scribbled just two words.….
"Semper Fi".
