If anyone is interested, a book about my father's WWII scout-sniper platoon was just published.

40 Thieves on Saipan by Joseph Tachovsky.

This was one of the first scout-sniper platoons organized in the Marine Corps. It was put together by the 6th Marines CO, Col Riseley, right after the regiment moved to Parker Ranch on Hawaii after Tarawa.

The book covers their training in Hawaii and fighting on Saipan. Although they also fought on Tinian and later moved back to Saipan for some mop-up duties, the book does not cover that heavily.

They were called Tachovsky's 40 Thieves for very good reasons and they even managed to steal two Army soldiers and took them to Saipan.

My dad was the youngest member, he turned 18 on the day they landed on Saipan, June 15, 1944.

I know the author, Joe Tachovsky. His dad was the platoon leader.

It's available on Amazon as a hardcover and Kindle.
