A Marine in the public eye prepared to drop out of the spotlight Friday.
About 200 friends and relatives gathered at the USO in Jacksonville to honor Camp Lejeune Public Affairs director Col. Keith Oliver, who is retiring from the Marine Corps after more than 30 years of service.
Oliver's job is basically head of public relations for Camp Lejeune, and those gathered commended his efforts.
He received the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct as public affairs officer for II Marine Expeditionary Force and director of the Camp Lejeune consolidated public affairs office for nearly five years.
