Vietnam's Agent Orange Victims File Suit
Updated: Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 - 9:34 AM

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - For the first time, Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange have filed a suit against the U.S. companies that produced the toxic defoliant used by American forces during the Vietnam War.

The lawsuit, filed by the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange on behalf of three people, was submitted to the U.S. Federal Court in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 30, said the group's vice president Nguyen Trong Nhan.

"We filed the suit to the federal court because it has handled many cases filed by former American soldiers in Vietnam before, so they are familiar with the matter," said Nhan, whose victims' group was launched last month.

Nhan said 10 companies are named in the suit, though he declined to specify them by name. Dow Chemical Co. and Monsanto were two of the primary producers of Agent Orange.

Between 1962 and 1971, U.S. planes sprayed an estimated 21 million gallons of defoliant, mostly Agent Orange, over Vietnamese forests where they believed Communist troops might be hiding.

Many American veterans and Vietnamese have long blamed Agent Orange, which contains the deadly component dioxin, for a variety of illnesses, including cancer, diabetes and spina bifida. The U.S. government claims there is no direct evidence linking dioxin with the illnesses.

However, about 10,000 Vietnam War veterans in the United States receive disability benefits related to Agent Orange exposure.

The three Vietnamese plaintiffs were Nguyen Van Quy, and two women, Nguyen Thi Phi Phi and Duong Quynh Hoa. All three had worked in areas sprayed with Agent Orange, Nhan said.

Phi suffered four miscarriages while Hoa has breast cancer and her blood tests show high levels of dioxin, Nhan said. Quy also has cancer, and has two children with birth defects.

Vietnam has said that the United States has a moral and spiritual responsibility to heal the wounds of war. However, Hanoi has never formally asked for compensation for the victims of Agent Orange.

In 2000, the Vietnamese government began paying monthly stipends to government workers, soldiers and civilians who helped fight for the Communist side in sprayed areas during the war.

The lawsuit, filed independent of the government, seeks compensation for the health problems caused by the toxic defoliant, said Nhan.

Vietnam has said an estimated 1 million people were affected by the defoliant during the war.

In 2002, Vietnam and the United States held their first ever joint scientific conference on Agent Orange and its effects since the war ended in 1975.

A new study released last year found that very high levels of dioxin continue to be found in food samples in Vietnam, decades after the wartime defoliant was sprayed over the country.

DIOXIN.....It takes, 2,000yrs before this "deadly" chemical dies out. In human's, it attaches to the fat cells of the body. It will release and then cause havoc inside the body......for 30yrs an East German Dr. studied Dioxin that was produced from coal factories.....Not until she was liberated could she put out her report.....THE USA, has it, and they won't admit it. I have several hundred files on the subject of AGENT ORANGE, THE COVER UPS, THE LIES, "KERRY BEING ONE OF THE BIGGEST" and even have a document which states, from Canada, England, the USA...."IN THE NEXT JUNGLE WAR, WE'RE GOING TO USE "EXPERIMENTAL" chemicals, signed by all 3 countries, 1958......THEY GOT THEIR wish.....If anyone is to blame for us which includes every person who served in country, bush, rear, messhall, truck driver, artillery, etc, were exposed, is former President Reagan. He by executive order dismissed the class action law suit against more companies, i.e. shell, exxon, mobile, Dupont, saying to the effect; "IT WOULD RUIN THESE COMPANIES." There was approx. 300million dollars in the "AGENT ORANGE PAYMENT FUND." It all went back to the lawyer's, and companies who made this crap. And the "GOOD OL' AMERICAN VN VETERAN GOT ANOTHER GREEN ONE YOU KNOW WHERE." If more Vietnamese would come forward, and more Veterans, something could be done about it. And I'll damn sure guarantee you, that Mr. KERRY, chicken**********!!!!!!!A*******h*******HAD ONE HELL OF LOT TO DO WITH IT. THERE ARE TESTS NOW, THAT CAN BE DONE, THAT CAN SHOW HOW MUCH "DIOXIN" is in your system. DAMN THEM ALL.

Wonder how much it would take to payoff those 1 million people were affected by the defoliant during the war.
Not much by the way they've taken care of us.
Who fought over there.
I remember the day, I went for my Agent Orange registry physical.
There was about 8 of us six Army, one Air Force and I the lone Marine.
There was a young doctor, by his age it was evident that he was in High School when we were in Vietnam.
He looked us in the eye, saying "Agent Orange was a problem if it was on the leaves of the trees, It was only a problem when it was in the dirt".
With that the Army personnel look at me with a look, that said "Where did he think, we spent most of our time"!
In the dirt!
So from that I came a way think
"IT DON'T MEAN NUTHING".
My wife had a miscarriage early in our marriage.
On coming back from Vietnam, I had a patch of hair that fell out my hair.
I thought it might have to do with the strain of combat.
Now, I think it might have being effects of Agent Orange.
Never asked for a penny from the government for that or the effects of PTSD.
Than we might asked the question;
If we pay the Vietnamese, will we also have to pay their offspring that survived and those that perish in still births or miscarriage?
We best have endless amounts of money.

6, having a hard time following your disjointed hysterical rant.

Dioxin is a byproduct of a number of industrial processes. We have it in the rivers here from paper production. Those damn liberal hippies try to clean up the rivers, but ya know, nobody ever listens to em.

Back to your hysterical rant, what exactly is Kerry's involvement in all this?
