Hi, I just got my ASVAB scores and I am going to MEPS soon and I really want to get the AG contract but my Dad who is a Marine asked one of his recruiter friends about requirement for that contract and he said you need 20/100 uncorrected vision and Im not sure what my vision is but it isn't too great. But my recruiter told me I just had to have normal depth perception and not be colorblind. So I am wondering if anyone here can tell me which one is true so I have a backup plan if they tell me I don't qualify for that contract at MEPS.
Thanks you in advance.

To be more specific I want to be a Helicopter/C130 Crew Chief. My parents are signing permission for me to enlist and go to MEPS on Tuesday. If AG is not possible I guess I'll try for Avionics all my line scores were above 122 so I should be fine so long as there's an opening.

I found this in MCO 1130.53R, Enlistment Options Programs:

♦Vision no worse than 20/70(distant) in one eye and 20/100 (distant) in the other with overall vision correctable to 20/20 (distant).

Well thank you for the help. My vision is 20/170 in left 20/200 in the right I'm assuming it wont be waiver able because its pretty far off. Guess Ill see what bonuses are available!

Damn kid with 20/200 can you even see the aircraft? Isn't that considered legally blind?

Nope; correctable with glasses. I was worse than him and colorblind. I ended up in Communications in the Marine Corps. Of course, that was in 1978.

I can see road signs and stuff if I drive without my glasses or contacts but I am currently corrected to 20/20 and I've decided on my back ups so I'm not too worried but being a crew chief sounds like a sweet job and a missed opportunity cus of my damn eyes lol. Oh and it is legally blind if you are 20/200 with best correction possible

Well the Marine Corps has lots of great MOS opportunities. You'll find a MOS that you like.

Well I signed papers so I could go to MEPS today and my recruiter brought a copy of the AG contract and is says "Vision must be uncorrected 20/100 (distant) or better, in each eye vision correctable to 20/20 (distant)" just thought I'd add that in case someone else is looking too. Thank you for your help Marines!

Well I just went to MEPS and I swore in so I'm a Poolee now and the job counseler said I would be eligible for the AG contract even though I have 20/200, but I failed my drug test before going down to meps for opiats even though I've never done them in my life. However I have been eating poppyseed muffins everyday for the past week so my recruoter sent me down anyways and said to dink a lot of water to flush them out and that the test at MEPS would be able to distinguish actual drugs from poppy seeds so I'm a little freaked out my drug test might come back positive and I'll be dq'd for life from eating a muffin.

That's a first for me. If what you're saying is true, recruiters need to start banning wannabes from ever eating a poppyseed muffin! Hard to believe, but $hit happens.

not saying that eating a poppy seeded muffin cant produce a false positive, but its highly unlikely.when i went through drug rehab some 17 years ago that was one of the biggest excuses used.you would need to eat at least a pound of poppy seeds to show some effect

If I only had a brain...I would know da' answer!

after posting i researched eating poppy seeds and was surprised to see how many people lost their jobs because of poppy seeded bagels/muffins.its only required that 90percent of the morphine be removed from the seeds .the morphine reacts differently to everybody .so it is possible that he did pop hot .

Once your eyes stop changing you can look into corrective surgery. They are letting people in as pilots now who have had PRK/Lasek. Before going this route, you'll want to consult a couple surgeons, as well as a flight surgeon for the military to see if they are/are still accepting the given procedure. You can always go in as another MOS and a few years down the road pursue the procedure and try to lat move or join the army which takes enlisted guys and puts them through the WO process to be pilots.

I also researched this and I would be remiss if I did not say....wishing you the best and quit eating poppyseed muffins.

You are still young....but do like the dinosaurs on here and start eating bran muffins.....they are healthy also and might help someone accusing you of being full of shiat.

Although sometimes with my crochety azz this does not always work.

Good luck!

Thank you for all the input and I think I'm just gonna stick to blueberry muffins from now on. Can't wait to ship out.

The liaison said I should qualify for it but my back up is to try to get and aircraft maintenance job and try to lat move later if I still want to but right now I'm working out everyday trying to get into closer to a perfect for my IST.
