It's been a tradition around here to have one general-purpose, open to everybody, nothing too serious place for folks (Marines, friends, family, and all) to check in and just share whatever comes to mind.

So, to not re-use any of the old titles (fresh start and all that), I'm opening a coffee shop here where you can come in and grab a cup, have a seat and shoot the breeze for a while, and just check in to see who's up to what.

Like always, this is in Open Squad Bay, so the whole world can see what you do here - keep it (reasonably) polite and not too salty, and we should be able to keep the shop open.

This is a 24x7x365 operation, and the drinks are always free as long as you're decent company. Jerks have to pay a dollar a cup, so don't be a jerk!

Lovely. I attempted to "clean up" the rather innocuous euphemism for urinating, and got the above error in the process. Rather than bother an admin with a penny-ante edit, I decided to post a medically acceptable term for the act described above.

I don't suppose there is a list of what is politically-correct words -- or an even longer list of what is politically-incorrect words anywhere handy? Or do I use George Carlin's guide to the Seven Words You Can Not Say on TV?
This is a open forum, not a Marine forum, you have a gripe, take it to Marines only or the war room, see above, it will not be heard here.
And Mex, have I got some new vids for you, not to be seen on here lmao.

Marcia Brady (Maureen McCormick) turned 60 years old today. When your teenage crushes turn 60, you know you're old. Marcia was about the youngest of my TV dream girls (well, until Baywatch came along!), so I'm officially old now.

By the way, back in 02 we had a LN reunion of sorts, and yes Misty, I took da warden with me. But it was fun there in DC. Are then any plans for a new LN get together in DC? Its good to meet the people I talk to on here and to let her know that they are people also who I can talk about things that I can not talk about with her. I mea
n, since I came back, thanks to Rocky, take that as you want, it hasnt seemed the same as it was back then. Ed is still just as confusing as ever, and he didnt go. I dont even know if he was a member then.
I still have and wear that shirt Ed, The Drifters and Freebirds reunion. I wore that shirt one day and my mom said, why you wearing that, I said, you just will never understand,
So if we have a Canadien who lives in Tenneesee, or some guy who lives in the heat of Texas or just some dickweed who patrols the highways of the great state of Ohiya and roots for the Buckeyes to no end so be it.
In other words, I am just tired of the wars as I stated in other posts, just tired of it. I go thru this crap each and everyday, dont need it here.
Most know Andy, I dont really know foxtrotoscar, but he seems good to go and give him a chance, if not, then atleast give Andy one. And as I have stated before, the last Admin gave me a second chance and I hope he knows how much I appreciatied that. I could really care less about most things, but this site, I do. I joined in 2002, when this site started, so yes, I care about it. I like to say I dont, but I do.
Now, if anyone wants to know, I was here with Miller, Moore and Jerry. I think that only Ed knows the name of Miller and Moore.

No, I cant do that, and she knows I cant do that, I am not that touchy feelly guy, I am that SOB that shows up at the fatal crrash and spits out baccer juice. She actually called me the ironman, not because of um, sex, but because I show up for work each and everyday no matter what. There is only two times I used sick leave, the last time was for oral surgery in 2008, the time before that, well, my kids dont even know about that and no, it wasnt VD. It was a clear night, but thats another story. On Oct. 8th I will let you and the rest Know. Oct. 8th has certain meaning for me.

Not excited about the Olympics this year, the IOC corruption has just gotten so bad it's turned me off (I mean, RIO? Sure, it's a great town for parties, but you want to bring the best athletes in the world, tens of millions of dollars of spending on everything BUT the sports and the host country, and throw a Roman Circus in the middle of crushing poverty and raw sewage, and some of the worst violent crime anywhere?

That's worse than I can remember. It's not about the sports, it's not national pride (except for the small countries who only have this), it's just international corporate-scale corruption. Look at FIFA for another prime example.

Wow. Sorry, didn't mean to vent like that.

I was just gonna say "I'm not much into the olympics, but I saw some of the women's rugby - Fiji and Colombia. THAT'S a real sport! Looks like the ladies play through tomorrow, then the men start. I hope they get these games on TV!

So weather report: there was weather everywhere, meds and coffee report: no, I'm not going to, and I'll give hugs to anyone whokeeps their wallet in that back pocket.

Haha. Hey, Lisa! I've been in the land called BUSY. Traveling to do some research, going to required instructor workshops, prepping for the coming semester (teaching and my own work), and the list goes on. But, I'm back. . .as are several other people, it seems! Good to see. :)

Currently checking and replying to email, drinking my coffee, and waiting for cinnamon rolls to come out of the oven. The Pillsbury kind, not from scratch. Though my from scratch recipe is lots better, I went with the quick kind since scratch cinnamon rolls take a long time. No time for the better stuff. Things to do, laundry to wash/dry, school stuff to read, and a syllabus to finish up.

Hope you're all having a good day thus far. It's Friday!

I'll be back on post after the weekend. Good luck with the water, Lisa, I know you're getting pretty scorched up North there!

Hmmmm. ALL the regulars? You don't say. Well, if the shoe fits. . . ;)

I'll have to keep in mind that the rule tends to apply across the Corps should I run into other Marines in person.

Had a cool front along with storms come through last night. It's a lovely 70 degrees right now with a southern breeze. No complaints here.

A purging and slight reorganizing of my bookcases is in progress. Getting rid of books falling in the "don't need/want/have time to read in the next 5 years" variety.

Hope you all are well and have an enjoyable weekend!

I have to actually go out and do work today. Like, meeting with customers and stuff. Driving around. I'm still tired from our family mini-vacation the weekend before last, and I want to get back in the rack.

That's all, just complaining. Now I'll shuddup, get another cup of coffee, and get back to work. At least the heat wave finally broke, for us anyway.

Dreaming of retirement some day...

I need to get the grass cut. Just aerated this morning - a friend and I split a half-day rental on a commercial plug aerator, since each yard only takes about an hour.

That sucker is heavy. The machine, not my friend. Wrestle that around for an hour and you will work up a sweat!

Next I have to mow, get the right grass seed and spread that, water for a week or two straight... This "house with a yard" deal is a lotta work.

Gotta get things squared away for company coming over next weekend, though. Anybody have any interesting Labor Day plans? We're just burning some food on the grill.

Evening, all! Mike, I'm so stinkin' jealous I'm turning green. We had a series of storms and rain come through with some moderately cooler weather. It was breezy today, so I took advantage of it and wore a hoodie for a bit. So worth it.

Coming up for a breath now that's it's nearly the end of the week. Things have been crazy busy . . .still. I'm enjoying my students and the course I'm taking. Lots of reading for my grad course (more so than other courses), but it's good stuff.

Hope you're all doing well. Farewell to August, and may September usher in an early arrival of fall type weather. Also, college football starts this weekend! Have a good Labor Day Weekend, all!

Doc, you still kicking around? Come on back, we're getting things back in shape here (or trying to). Your presence is definitely missed!

Anyway, my weather report would be the same griping I've done for the last couple months, so I won't. I did have a boot camp flashback the other day though, I was in the shower (downstairs - an interior room, no windows, etc.) when the power went off and on a couple times. So of course the lights went out, I had this memory of one zero-dark-thirty "sheet/shower/shave/getthehellonline" morning when our duty DI for the day decided to kill the lights in the rain room and start counting down "10! 9! 7! ..."

That was just A's and E's everywhere, a shower full of wet recruits panicking to get done, get out, and get online before the count hit zero, which, of course, we didn't.

To the pit we went, wet and half of us in our skivvies. Ah, the fun!

Not sure why I remember that one...

I keep hearing about that, it actually makes sense with the picture. But it's hard to do with a non-meat diet, so I usually just drink the beer while I grill some veggies and fish and such.

Get a big enough bass or something, though, it might work with fish. Mostly I'll stick with drinking the beer!

Well, I finally made it into the grandfather ranks. #1 daughter had a little girl, Abigail, on Tuesday, 10/18. 19" long and 7lb, 10oz. She didn't look a bit like Winston Churchill either. She has a very pretty, round face.

Before she was 12-hours old, her parents saw her flipping from her back onto her side. I saw her do it today and she did it effortlessly. She'll be climbing out of the crib at three-months if they're not careful. She has a large range of facial expressions and likes to smile a lot. Cries very little, mostly when getting her diaper changed as she doesn't seem to like that.

#1 daughter is doing very well herself and is very happy with her baby, as am I.

Alright, time to stick my head back in here and poke the sleeping beauties with a stick. My New Year's resolution, starting early here, is to keep active with Marines and our friends and families.

So how was everybody's Christmas (or first couple nights of Chanukah)? We've got both mixed in our family, so we have to make the rounds. Makes for a lot of eating - I love holidays that include food. So much food...

And since we can't have snow this year, I'm okay with the 50-60 degree weather, it means I can get out to the range a few times and not freeze my tailbone off!

Anybody still check in here? Give a holler!

Christmas went well for my family. We had a nice gathering at the Ex's house, great dinner, and gifts were enjoyed by all. One of my daughters commented that it was the best Christmas we've had in years. I agree.

Quick update on my grand-daughter. She's 9-weeks old now, 12lbs, 23-inches, keeps her head up on her own (and has for several weeks), diaper change time has turned into a happy and playful time for her. She tries very hard to sit up on her own and to crawl. The only drawback is she doesn't like to drink from a bottle, even with her mother's milk in it. Makes babysitting a bit of a chore. But I'm getting an ounce or two into her now. One step at a time.

Hope everyone else had a good holiday season.

Alright, a few more popping up - I'm hoping to join the Grandpa club next year or so, we'll see. Right now (being too damn close to DC) I'm waiting for the change-of-regime festivities in a few weeks. Took the last week off for a good rest, and I slept more than I have in months!

So it's been a slow, pretty boring winter so far. Boring is okay some times.

Have a good New Year's Eve, all!

The DROP is the Deferred Retirement Option Plan, it means I retire but keep working. The state no longer pays into my retirement but I dont receive my retirement check, it go's back into my account. If I do 3 yrs in it then that adds 139,000 to my retirement. After the crap I see that they are putting out from our GHQ, I am back to 1-1-2019. The extra money dont do me no good if I aint around to spend it.

Thanks Troop. The grandpa thing isn't too bad. Unless you are actively babysitting (like me), you can pass them off to their mom or dad for diaper changes, feeding (if breast fed), and just plain cranky baby. Eventually, they (or you) go home too. :marine: But I am quite fond of my little girl. She is ahead of the game in many developmental areas, so I'm also quite proud of her. Mom and dad are doing a great job with her.

If crap is still going the way it is now at the end of 2018, it would probably be best to pull the plug. I thought I would miss police work when I retired, but I was surprised at how much I didn't after just a few months. Now, when I think I miss it, I just watch the TV news and that feeling goes away.

Good luck and stay safe out there.

I'd start but the cat glued to my lap won't let me type much - we got a new furball last fall, and she's decided that I'm "mommy". I sit down for half a second and she's right there curled up on me. Okay, I guess I did start.

My old Michigan tolerance to cold is gone, if I ever had any in the first place. I too hate cold weather and 30s is cold weather to me now. However, I refuse to turn on the heat as it isn't that terribly cold inside my apartment that a hoodie can't take care of it. The dog is buried under her fleece blanket, so she's OK.

Lisa, we have a spare room but it's not too warm around here this week either (not sure the Boss wants me inviting ladies over, but... ;) )

No sign of Mandy in a long time - the rest of the Crusty Old Crew is around but not too chatty lately. Check on the thread about Mitch (Hammer) though, he's having a rough time it seems. Billy and the gang have all been through there.

Our days are 80˚-82˚. Overnight it's almost 70˚. We have had some snow recently on our island in Hawaii - You don’t see this very often (maybe a few times a year) so thought I would take a picture of snow at the top of Mauna Loa volcano (Elevation:13,678′)when we went for our walk the other day. As you can see, it’s one of the few places you can see snow from the beach here in Kona. Whoops, sorry can't insert my photo as I don't have enough credits. Have no idea how to get credits so would appreciate if someone could let me know. I've read the Q & A but they don't explain it.

Okay, now I'm jealous.

I'm always jealous when I read/hear/see anything about living in Hawaii. I know I'd never be able to afford the place unless we moved into a 2-room shack up in the sticks, but still... Hawaii...

Only been there once (with the wife and daughter - best vacation ever!), but we all dream of getting back some day.

Off to play the lottery, and wait for the fun to really start tomorrow (pre-inauguration). The DC area has been getting crazier than usual for a week!

Oh, and Bradley/Chelsea/whatever Manning - no. Just no.

Konapaul - for loading a picture in, go to the editor for a post and look for the little icon that looks like a window, or a frame, with a picture in it. Click on that, and "Insert Image" will come up. Select the "from computer" tab, then I always use the "basic uploader" choice at the bottom, then click on "choose a picture". That prompts you to browse through your computer, select a picture and upload it, it's not too hard.

Size can be an issue, I can't remember off hand what the biggest image is, but you can put some decent sized pics up.

Holler if you can't figure it out, FO and I are around and some others who know how this stuff works...

Thank you, here's the photo. It was just too big - I reduced the size.
