View Full Version : Female Marine rifleman, machine gunner headed to the infantry

Now hear this: Women are joining the infantry — and hell has not frozen over.

The Marine Corps has approved requests by two women to move into infantry military occupational specialties. One woman has been approved to become a rifleman and another to become a machine gunner, said Capt. Philip Kulczewski, a Marine spokesman at the Pentagon.

“The Corps applauds the time and efforts of those Marines who volunteered,” Kulczewski said on Monday.

The Marine Corps is not yet releasing the women’s names or what unit they will be joining, he said. The service’s gender integration plan requires that the two female officers or staff noncommissioned be assigned to the unit 90 prior to any women joining them.

Since no women have graduated from the service’s Infantry Officer Course, female Marine or Navy officers assigned to infantry battalions will serve in support roles. The 30th female Marine to attempt IOC left her class on April 21 after she was unable to complete two hikes. She has the opportunity to attempt the course again in July.

In March, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter approved the Marine Corps’ plan to integrate women into all MOSs, allowing 233 female Marines who have graduated Infantry Training Battalion or other MOS schools previously closed to women to apply for lateral moves into combat jobs.

Starting this month, a training team will visit Marine Corps installations to explain the service’s gender integration plan.

“This is not sensitivity training," Kulczewski told Marine Corps Times in April. “The focus will be on the details of the implementation plan and how it affects all Marines' best practices.”

So far, not many prospective female Marines have shown interest in training to join the infantry after boot camp. Marine officials have attributed that to a lack of interest among women to serve in ground combat jobs or to the rigorous physical standards associated with joining infantry MOSs.

I wonder if the Corps will eliminate the word humping. I can hear it now. "All right, lets go hump in the woods" to a female grunt.

Don't be surprised. The SECDEF and SECNAV want to abolish all job descriptions with the word "man" included so they'll be more gender inclusive. We'll see what they come up with as replacements for "rifleman", "mortarman", etc.

would you believe "rifleperson and mortar person" ... how do you think we got "Police Officers" in place of "Policeman" ..... I guessing that wherever the word ends in MAN it will be replaced with "person" ... same reason we now call them "congress critters" instead of "congressman" or "congresswoman" .... it is TOTALLY silly, when the country has much more important things to worry about... all this amounts to is a big RED HERRING thrown out in order to focus attention AWAY from the TOTAL FAILURE OF THIS ADMINISTRATION TO GOVERN PROPERLY AND IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE WHOLE NATION INSTEAD OF SECULAR GROUPS.....

An 0311? A machine gunner? That was hard enough as man. Not only will they have to hump there own gear, but the supplies as well. Can they fireman carry a fallen comrade? The weak link in the chain just became stretched to its limit. How can this be possible? There is a reason that female pushups are standardized the way they are (at least in my time) - they do not have the upper body strength. Are they going to get special standards assigned to them in order to make the program work. Perhaps they will be good at scout/sniper, FOB's, etc but general infantry? I blame it on Pvt Jane. They are going to decorate our fighting holes with little figurines. The president needs to abort this. We are his own, at least at one time we were. I am telling Chesty

Women grunts? I remember days upon days of sheer exhaustion, 100 degree heat with 100% humidity or humpin the Ashau in 115 degrees with only 90% humidity. Packs wearing holes in your back, 1 can of c's a day, starving, drinking paddy water, sleeping a few hours at night with a poncho liner keeping the mosquitos off of you in balmy 90 degrees, constantly sweating your asss off. Dysentery, hoping you might get malaria so you'll go back to NAS. Jungle rot, eaten alive with bugs, leaches, cuts from the brush. filth, washing your hands with dirt to get them somewhat clean. Day in day out all the while because of what you've seen and where you've been knowing there ain't no way in hell that you're coming out of this alive, and being OK with that, just wishing if you're going to get it you have the chance to take a few more with you.

Doing this for 2, 3 or 4 weeks at a time, then going back to the rear for a few days then going back out and starting all over again. Praying you'll be able to hear the 1st shot so you know the **** is going down again, losing more brothers continuously, FNG's wondering why you and everyone else is so distant. Realizing that there's no need to be afraid of where you are, knowing those little ****s are the ones that should be afraid because of you and your friends out there. Not giving a **** except doing your job and standing your ground when you know it's not possible.

bama wants women to do that job, Hell, not many men can stand up to the demands of being a bush Marine Grunt. But I guess there's the glamor, Marines sure look cool in those blues, that none of us ever got to wear except for that little bib we put on at PI for picture day. And though I know from the bottom of my heart that all mos's are required, others, even Marines, wonder why we look at everyone outside of our world as POG's. Go figure.

Not all women are created equal. There are some amazing examples of women in combat roles in the IDF and the Soviet Army, for example.

Lyudmila Pavlichenko had 309 CONFIRMED sniper kills (all in ONE year, from June 41 to June 42) with a Tokarev SVT-40 mounting a 3.5X sight. That rifle is a POS and the optics are hardly worth the effort. 36 of her kills were German snipers.

Compare her record with Gunny Hathcock (93 confirmed kills) or Chris Kyle (160 confirmed kills), and she was using ancient technology.

Personally, I don't like the idea of women in combat -- especially if integrated with males in the same unit. Perhaps if there was an "Amazon Unit" and the entire cadre and enlisted were women, that might well be a unit to fear. But in this day and age, that isn't going to happen.

Women as POGs are not a bad thing. As a first loader on an M4, not so much.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Pavlichenko Yes, I know, it's Wiki, but check out the source documents listed at the bottom of the article. Look up images of her on Google. Don't take my word for it.
