U.S. Air Force B-52 bombers arrived at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, on Saturday joining Operation Inherent Resolve, the American-led campaign against the Islamic State group.

The deployment marks the first time the Air Force will use the Cold War-era warplanes — from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana — in the counter-ISIS fight in Iraq and Syria. The service did not disclose the exact number of bombers it deployed.

"The B-52 will provide the coalition continued precision and deliver desired airpower effects,” Lt. Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command and Combined Forces Air Component, said in a release.

B-52's didn't make a difference in the Vietnam war (we still lost). Maybe this time will be different - not keeping my fingers crossed. Vietnam was micromanaged by the White House, just like this war is.

A friend of mine from college lives down near Ft. Still in SW Oklahoma. A little while back those B-52s were using the artillery ranges to do some live fire bombing exercises in preparation for heading over there. Talk about rattling the windows!

I remember those Arc Lights from Vietnam. Scary even from a distance. Had to be absolute hell in the impact zone. I read some interrogation reports from NVA and VC caught in caves during Arc Lights. They said they were literally thrown around, suffered broken bones, broken eardrums, and flat scared to death. Over-pressure killed some. Many surrendered because they couldn't take another Arc Light.

I say to unleash the devil dogs on them and turn the cameras off and tell the media and politicians to keep they're mouths shut. Lily livered, pinko socialists don't know or understand what it's going to take to defeat these savages. Send me over there without coffee, Metamucil, or prep.H and they'll see how mean and ornery an old jarhead can be!:usmc::usmc:

They used those B52's in support of us at the Hook. That, along with the NJ and napalm and normal fire support scared the hell out of me that's for sure. I swear we were actually bounced off the ground. Awesome fire power.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/ee99c533/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

When they bombed the area around you........the ground shook and bounced you like a earthquake. Also in response to Tenn. Tops post.....the B-52's made a huge difference in the VN war. Ask any bush Marine that was there when they were close to being over run by the NVA. When Nixon authorized the bombing of North Viet Nam, operation Rolling Thunder....it brought the North Viet Nam to the table, which in turn opened the door for our trek back to America. Our military in Nam, won the war on the battlefield.....the Government, the bleeding hearts, and the cowards lost the War in the name of the United States.

And Billy, the cowards are still losing wars. I believe it to be their tradition. Also, the B52's as you mentioned did a great deal in our behalf to save the lives of many Marines.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/ee99c533/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

Great picture Rocky, I have an extreme amount of respect for what they did in our behalf, except in what they now call those danger close situations. <script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/ee99c533/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

From the history I know Russ they saved a lot of American lives in Vietnam.

ISIS has no idea what destruction they are in for !!!

I agree with all my older brothers who saw the B-52s actually allowed to do their thing in Nam - massive firepower can help a lot if the damned politicians don't eff things up again, like they have so constantly for the past 40+ years.

If we could just let loose a few of those full grid square bomb drops I think some of the ISIS tangoes would change their mind about the glory of dying for Allah real quick.

But politicians and liberals and all that chit. 8-(

Madisox, instead of saying "all my older brothers" it might be better to say "all my older and wiser brothers." Kinda has a ring to it, don't ya think.<script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/ee99c533/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>
