View Full Version : Marine Reserve aviators tapped to become one-stars

Two Reserve Marine colonels have been nominated for their first stars, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Monday.

Col. Bradley James is the deputy executive assistant of Plans, Policies and Operations in Washington, D.C. The Austell, Georgia native has more than 4,600 flight hours in the KC-130 E/F/R/T variants, and has served on the staffs of II Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd and 4th Marine Aircraft Wings, and Marine Aircraft Groups 41 and 49.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, and Air Strike Medal with numeral “9.”

Col. Kurt Stein is the vice chief of staff for Marine Corps Forces Reserve, based in New Orleans. The Pennsylvania native has held that post since September. Stein has flown more than 100 combat missions and accumulated more than 4,000 flight hours in numerous platforms.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star and Air Strike Medal.

The nominations must be confirmed by the Senate before the promotions are official.
