Beaufort, SC, Jan 16 --- The Marine Corps League Yellow Footprints Detachment of the South Carolina Department will be presented with its official Charter from the National Headquarters of the Marine Corps League in a ceremony to be held at the Peatross Parade Deck on Parris Island at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 31, 2004. "This ceremony will be the culmination of many months of organizational meetings and membership drives, but even though a lot of work has been done already, there's still lots to be done. This ceremony serves as an official starting point for us as we become active within our local military and civilian communities." stated Ron Tucker, Yellow Footprints Detachment Public Affairs Officer.

The Marine Corps League was founded by Major General Commandant, John A. Lejeune, in 1923 and chartered by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937. Its membership of nearly 56,000 is comprised of honorably discharged, active duty and Reserve Marines with 90 days of service or more, and retired Marines. It includes officer, enlisted, male and female members. The Marine Corps League was formed for the purposes of promoting the interests of the Marine Corps; to provide camaraderie and assistance to Marines and their survivors; and to preserve the traditions of the U. S. Marine Corps.
