Good write on your 'little diddy'.
IMO...it's worthy of fleshing out and recordingfull instrumental accompaniment in the future.

Personally (being a long time musician, song writer) I've written (3) songs that reflect on my SE Asian picnic. :)

Here's the only one I have online at this time.
Scroll down to the 13th song....it's called Just Do It.

Thanks for posting your tribute.

Hey, I just listened to your tune there "Just do it". I detected a bit of SANTANA on the guitar, a little SALSA music with that. Very catchy very nice. And the name of the band is catchy too.

I like the song, but couldn't hear some of the lyrics. Could you post them up here?

Sure thing, here you go. Semper Fi

Filthy Little Grunt

Get some get some Marine, was the common battle cry,
Semper Fi, do or die, don’t ask why.Saddle up, lock and load, we’re going on a hunt
We had such fun back in the day when we were, filthy little grunts

We’d set out through the jungle, armed to tooth and nail,
keeping’ quiet, moving’ smooth, bringin’ hell.
The point man he was one poor soul, cause he would catch the brunt,
He had to be a special kind, of a filthy little grunt.

Chours

A brotherhood of warriors, a brotherhood of men,
the likes of which I’ll probably never, ever know again.
The kind of man I'd die for, or pull some stupid stunt,
The kind of men I'd kill for, they were filthy little grunts.

Crazy times, and crazy minds, were the order of the day
Was best to be a friendly, when we’d come out to play.
Big and tall, lean and mean, some were even runts,
Black and brown and red and white, we were filthy little grunts.

Chours

Many days, and many nights have come and gone since then,
I often lay awake at night, and think of these fine men.
When the ages have forgotten us, with new battles and new fronts,
I”m prey we’ll find a brand new batch, of filthy little grunts.

A brotherhood of warriors, a brotherhood of men,
the likes of which I’ll probably never, ever know again.
The kind of man I’d die for, or pull some stupid stunt,
The kind of man I’d kill for, a filthy little grunt.

a filthy little grunt
A filthy little grunt

Man I really like your song Chulaivet! Did you do the guitar work, I see you holding your babies in your avatar. I'm an old retired band director. Now I'm a wanna' be jazz guitar player. It will never come out of my bedroom, but I love it so much.
I have to ask, have you heard Tommy Emmanuel play? If you don't recognize the name, do yourself a favor and google/listen to this guy. He'll blow you away. Keep pickin' Marine! Semper Fi Bro!

Howdy....
Stands to reason....I'm an old fvck and influenced by them.
That you felt I remotely reminded you of them I'm totally stunned and honored.
I thank you for the kind words.....shvt...maybe I'll keep writing after all. :)

Appreciate the comments.

Carry on Green Mo'fers....

Ardee...
Yes....I did everything on that tune.
Ha...yes...they are my (only) babies.
A 1973 Guild D40 acoustic purchased in 1978.
A 1977 Ibanez Telecaster purchased in 1979. (the Fender litigation era)

No shvt...a band director!...it's music related so that very cool.
Tommy Emmanuel...I've seen every youtube vid (3) times.
But, no more...every time I do I feel my axes would be best used as kindling.
Yes he's incredible....almost too damm good. :)

Well...I will only encourage you to keep your bedroom axe discipline going.
You got it.....I will keep playing and writing my drivel.

Thank you (and 29palms) very much for taking the time to giving a listen.

Carry on...and Semper Fi Brothers.

And while I'm at it, I'll check out some of your other stuff, too

Thank you...hope you find them worthy of your time.

In four decades of song writing I've written (3) very personal songs that reflect upon my Vietnam picnic.

Just Do It is one of them.
The other two:
Toy Guns - written in 1981-recorded live. (as adult nursery rhythm)
It's All Over Town-written in 1983-recorded live

But...I've always been hesitant to upload those for fear of coming off as some sort of political statement or commentary.
They were not written or ever intended to provoke political opinions or project my own.....I hate politics.
It's just that the VN experience was a very profound one.
So, they are just songs/lyrics (as you described Ardee's song) from the 'heart'.

Thanks again....SF

Listening to "CRUZIN". Wow, I like that. Very creative and instrumental, relaxing. I could picture driving listening to this. It's really nice. You seem to play at a PRO LEVEL and I'm not just saying that. You seem to have found your niche. So far, the best one I like yet.

"Fast as Fire".....again, I get the SANTANA guitar there, very good guitar picking here. Got a little 70's like vocals going on here. Like a FLY DELTA commercial of the late 60's early 70's.

"Guitars in the Storm"......wow......great guitar thing here and the base along with it goes great. Sounds like its raining guitars here with all that thunder.

"Let me know". This is straight out good rock and roll. Very good. Is that a Hawaiian guitar on this song? A little Steely Dan?

Yeah Chulaivet I know what you mean about your reluctance to upload your stuff.
Very out of the box for me actually. I probably would't have except I sent it to a Charlie 1/4 friend of mine and he put it on youtube. Once it was "out there" I thought what the hell, might as well share it around. I've got a couple more in the works, maybe when I get em' finished I'll float them around over here. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Keep your coming buddy, they sound great!!

The closest I got to music was around the sixth grade, with a flute, but heck, I just couldn't make out the music symbols, never pushed for it, never really tried. You guys have a gift that many wish they had. Chulaivet, don't know how far you ever wanted to go with this music, but if you could just pound out ONE hit song, something that would go on the radio, you have your ALBUM. All of these songs are great in my opinion and would definitely be a great accompaniment to the hit tune. Take a vacation to England, and push some of your cd's, hit the circuits I bet they would take a liking to your music. Just checking out other musicians history, they seemed to make it big overseas before hitting it big here.

TBH....I'm very comfortable with my writing ability and musicianship.
If one (like us at the moment) has their shvt online one must have the skin of a snow tire....which I do.

That qualified...my ego is not that big and I know my place in the music world.
What I write is not meant to cater to mass appeal so I don't give a shvt if someone doesn't like my song writing drivel.
I write for me...no one else.
I've been doing this for a loooong time and it's just creative therapy because I enjoy picking an interesting topic to put to lyric and music.
FOR THE RECORD: I do not write sappy love songs (IE: country and Barry Manilow crap)

If you do enjoy the song writing process it's still not a bad idea to put it out somewhere
Remember also...it's not those in our immediate orbit that will provide honest feedback....they'll always tell you "your great!"

Me....I'm just happy if I can avoid the 'you totally suck at writing' genre. :)

Stick with it Ardee and finish those others on the burner.

Carry on....

First....thanks a bunch for listening to all those songs.
Very accommodating of you. :)

On "Let Me Know":
No...not a Hawiian guitar.
When I finished that song I sent it to a studio in L.A. (2010) to be mastered and have a couple of real PRO tracks added.
The Hawiian sound was just the effect the engineer put on my lead axe track.

The newest songs I just uploaded a couple of months ago are:
Retired
I'm Ready
Hundred Good Reasons
It's About Time.

I've got some new ideas but nothing more fleshed out at this tiime.

Thanks again.....maybe this thread can generate more interest.

Back to it....

I forgot to respond to a couple of your comments:
I don't see it as a gift.
I would just say it's some unexplainable inherent propensity, proclivity or inclination that grabs our interest.
Then....it's relentless dedication, practice and perseverance to become accomplished.
The time I've spent doing this can't be expressed in the tiny increment of hours, days or months.

You have some energetic points...no doubt.
Even though I've always thought "I'm Going That Way Too" has/had the possibility of commercial potential I just can't flatter myself enough to acquire the drive necessary to accomplish what you're suggesting.
If I in my thirties back in mid 70's when those years were busier than shvt practicing, gigging in clubs, playing weddings, etc. I might think differently.

Your kind words are appreciated and well received.

Time for a glass of wine....

I thought you'd appreciate some feedback. Feedback is something I like to give even to restaurants. It's the only real way to know how one is doing. I hope that's an Argentinian MALBEC you're having.

Ha...no, unfortunately....just a generic chard at this time.
Why?....because I was out of Crown Royal.

Yes....that's correct.
The feedback is not only greatly appreciated but a generous offer of your time to do so.

Well.....

Couldn't find my original thread regarding whether there are any musicians/songwriter Marines floating around this site so I resurrected this old muther.

Are there any musicians or song writers here and have them posted on the the web?...feel free to post a link.

I have a few new ones up:
It's About Time
She Sizzles
I'm Ready
A Hundred Good Reasons (no...it's NOT an autobiography!)
Retired

To any that check out my song writing drivel I'll say thanks in advance.

A good weekend to all....carry on....and Semper Fi.
