Does anyone remember the rocket/mortar attack that landed in the hooch area on Christmas eve. I was in VMFA-314.
The rocket/mortar landed a direct hit on a bunker behind us killing seven or eight marines. What unit were the KIA's attached to?
Information needed for VA evaluation.

I have no knowledge of that specific incident, but I was near-by just prior.

I was with HQ Co, 3rd Marines and moved to artillery plateau (later named Camp Carroll) when the base was first built toward the end of 66. Stayed there until I rotated out in July 67.

It seemed like a nightly occurrence that we'd get hit with rockets/mortars and I'd spend a good part of the night in a hole with 3 other guys, wondering what were the chances of taking a direct hit.

I hope you receive the info you need.
