So I am heading to the eastcoast in a few months and wanted to pick your brains on any tips or advice for making the transition smooth. I am in the process of selling my home here in California and I am also expecting a newborn baby in June. I am going to schedule my move for July and I will be doing a government move. Looking for tips on the government move experience, getting POVs over to the eastcoast, pay and entitlements that come with PCS. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Make sure that you keep all receipts, take pictures of things that are valuable as well as recording SNs, etc. The government move is the way to go from coast to coast if you have a house full of stuff. Are you going to drive your POV? Do you have a sponsor at your joining unit? Get in touch with them and see if you can ship out some stuff that you may need right away that you cannot bring with you on your flight/drive. See if the command has a website on the Marines.Mil site with a new join link. Good luck, I assume that you are part of the small community and wont have any issues getting yourself taken care of.

The best advice is go UA ;) run as far away as possible. Keep all recipts gas hotel stuff like that. Do not sign for anything until you have ensured it has been received in good order, if anything was damaged note it. I mean you are a SSgt so I would assume this isnt your first PCS/PCA.

Contact housing to see if you can move into a house on base as soon as you arrive. They've been building new townhomes on the base the past 3-4 years and they are nice. They might be able to provide you with a house right away so you can make a house-to-house move with your household goods.

That looks a lot nicer than the open squad bay I lived in back in 74 and 75. And oh, don't drink the water
