Found this on my old computer...

The other day I was forward this;

I realize that the majority of you think that the Marines began and ceased being as of the end of the Vietnam unpleasantness, but that ain't quite true.

There were a few other instances when they did their
duty, and most ceased complaining shortly after returning to "civilization."
Anyway, try on this message about us old-
timers from the "horse, gun and musket period."
Talking about WWII and Iwo Jima.

Omitting the signature that was here...

I then reply with this;
It's one Marine's opinion...but we must and will take exception if not only offends...because only those that had to face "Rules Of Engagment" and a war that after awhile loss the support of the American people can say this to my face...steaming in northwest Indiana...

I felt a little silly so I composed this.

I was asked to go to the Vietnam UNPLEASANTNESS
In 1965 and then in 1966 because it was such a mess.

The reasoning for that mess,
Was dued to us having to obey ROE,
It made for a rough row to HOE.

We shouldered our rifles along with our bullets,
Now some make jest saying that they carried Muskets.

Suggesting that we not complain,
for the UNPLEASANTNESS,
That was the cause of the mess.

We wish that we could be witty,
But that would be silly.

So if you cannot say anything better,
Please why not say less on the matter.

No the Corps did not start
or end in Vietnam.
But we did get some.

There I go again acting silly,
When I should be acting witty.

To appease those that carried Muskets,
While all we had was Rifles and Bullets.

Now the rest is all history,
And maybe one day,
We'll be out of all this misery.

Right on Ricardo I agree with you on this. I am so relieved that our younger brothers of the two Gulf wars got a home coming that was deserving those that have served in battle in a far off place.
