GRAY, Tenn. - A Marine Reserve regiment alerted nearly two months ago of an impending deployment will report to active duty tomorrow and then head on to Iraq.
Company L, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment received orders last week saying its 180 members would serve on active duty for about one year. No firm departure date has been set.
Maj. Pete Gill, officer in charge of the Peacetime Wartime Support Team for the company, said it ''is being activated in order to support the coalition's mission of promoting safety and stability in Iraq.''
Company L is an infantry company that could receive missions such as front-line patrolling or rear-line security, Gill said.
