Its anniversary is today.

Was it Iwo? Saipan? Anything to do with WW I or II?
Korean War? Vietnam?

No. The Civil War---Battle of Antietam (Maryland)--Known to the South as Sharpsburg, for the nearest town.

September 17th, 1862

A place called The Cornfield changed hands several times that day, and the fully grown corn stalks looked afterwards like they had been cut to ground level by hand.

There's a very detailed thread that's 9 years old, did not see it til just now.

"Bloodiest Day Remembered".

But even so, it was not yet resurrected today, so I posted this new one on the anniversary of that battle of Sept 17th.

Long time since I studied that history...over 22,000 killed between both sides between the 16th-18th
