I placed a 96 on the ASVAB. Going into artillery! 0814 HIMARS Crewman.

I'm busting a gut trying to get the NROTC Marine Option Scholarship right now, though. I would hate to have to forfit going to boot camp in May if I did recieve this scholarship, but I know the Commission would make it worth the wait in the long run!

Avionics, shipping June 9th, 2014. Scored a 99 afqt and a 150 GT. The Marine liaison, a Gunnery Sergeant named Christensen (can't remember spelling) got very excited about it and put me on the phone with Eastern NC's OSO and he talked me into doing an interview with him, so didn't swear the oath that day.

Went back to recruiter, discussed options further, I came to realize that going officer-side wasn't a viable option for me for many, many reasons (came to this decision on my own, and wasn't coerced or anything), and went back to MEPS after canceling the interview.

Needless to say Christensen was not at all happy with me, said my recruiters were screwing me, and generally gave me the coldest shoulder I've ever received from anyone in my entire life. Sat outside his door for over twelve hours waiting just to swear the oath of enlistment. Felt as though I betrayed him somehow, but stuck to my convictions this second time (I had given everything extra-thorough thought and had come to the decision that this was absolutely what I wanted to do and for all the right reasons) and swore in.

I still feel bad about it to this day, because he was so excited about that asvab score and was so eager and quick to help me out. Never have I met a complete stranger willing to do so much and go so far for me. Christensen to me was the epitome of what a Marine should be... both a steadfast friend and a fearsome enemy. I got to see both sides of him during both of my visits, mostly through his interaction with my recruiters. A very scary and intimidating man... and exceedingly good at his job I reckon.

As for my score... I didn't know what my score really meant at the time other than that it was a good one. Little did I know that I scored a literal, and supposedly impossible, perfect asvab. Didn't miss a single question. None of the doctors there apparently had seen one that high, and they had all been working there for years and years. I still remember GySgt Christensen calling up my recruiter after looking at my score and saying, to my nervous fear, "Sgt Thomas?" (he received a promotion to Ssgt literally this month). "You won't believe what your boy just did."

I also got a 96. The score isn't very heard of around here. All of the other branches were trying to get me to sign with them. What are you thinking of doing as an officer/ enlisted?

I received a score of 96 and I am going to be a public affairs specialist- media option with the goal of one day being a combat camera in an active war zone.

You didn't do bad yourself. I think I mostly got lucky, as there were quite a number of questions where I wasn't confident with my answers, and even more where I ended up needing to guess.

Combat camera would be pretty sweet, though it can be pretty dangerous. With the camera gear you generally can't carry as much in the way of weaponry as you might want, and can be handicapped to defend yourself should things go sour. Still, you might end up getting to work with special ops guys too, which is very cool, though even more dangerous. Other than that, though, no idea what the daily routine of a combat camera operator (combat reporter?) would be. Might be worth looking into the forum archives to see if there's anyone with prior experience who's talked about it.

I know I am planning to do a lot of training in order to get the job because of the lack of weaponry I will have. I am also a female getting the job will Be A huge triumph. I never thought of getting an old forum up, I am new on here and don't all the ropes. Thank You! :-)

There seems to be a few marines rolling around these forums (or at least there used to be) with your mos of choice. It might be worth your while to start up a new thread asking for other people's experience, thoughts, and advice. Your recruiter might also be able to help introduce you to someone in real life who could also give you some better info than just a job outline like this: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/4612.htm

I got lucky myself. I'm going into avionics, and my recruiter happened to have been doing avionics before he started recruiting duty, and he's got a lot of good stories, advice, and insider info about the perks and downsides of being an avionics marine. Every mos has it's pros and cons... but it's up to you to find out if those pros really are pros and if those cons really are cons. Individual life experiences may vary.

Good luck with getting the job your after! If you work hard, have a good attitude, pay favors forward, and don't slack or 'coast'... you'll likely find friends in all sorts of places willing to help you achieve your goals in the marines.

94 on the ASVAB and they gave me a ship date of Feb 2015, but my recruiter said once I pick a job that'll get moved up. He's suggested crypto-linguist, but it seems like a lot of translation/ paperwork/ desk job which isn't really what I'm into, so we'll see. Either way, stoked to be on my way to becoming a Marine!

I scored a 70 don't remember my line scores exactly but they were all above 120. I'm going in for aviation mechanics, going to do some night schooling and get my degree/ certifications. Also if you guys/girls have time before shipping out don't forget to get 15 college credits and rank up to PFC before boot camp.

Got a 93 on the AFQT and around 130 for each of the line scores. Been in the DEP for a little more than 4 months now and it looks like I'll be leaving Nov. 3rd with a BA contract unless something changes.
