Great. That's two Marines in as many months. Dammit.

Well, hopefully these guys are made examples of.

It's obvious they don't know their sick.

Wow. I know this was a long time ago, but I just found this thread through google and had to register to comment.

Ike (the guy convicted in this case) is my best friend from way back. He stayed with us for a while before he decided to join the Marines. We used to play D&D and other Pen & Paper role-playing games to pass the time.

He's like a brother to me.

Anyway, he'd always get in trouble with women. Every time he'd go off on his own he'd wind up with some chick and she was never right for him. He always had the best of intentions, but it's like he can't say "no" to anything female.

Still, I think he's got to be the most loyal friend I've ever had. I moved across the country after he joined the USMC and I still miss him every day. I'm planning a move back to the east coast next year and I'm hoping to reconnect with him.

As for his comment about the CP, it's true. Anyone who downloads porn on P2P networks knows that CP is rampant there. You really gotta watch it. And back when this crap happened, you have to remember... there wasn't any fancy software to filter that crap out.

I feel horrible that all this stuff happened to my friend, but I think it just goes to show that the military isn't for everyone. I think if he had stayed with us for a while longer, got a job at a factory or something and never gave the military a second thought... he'd probably have a clean record right now.

Instead he's on a sex offender's registry. Which, in my opinion, is pretty stupid. He's not a violent or dangerous guy at all. But whatever.

Anyway, I think it's just more evidence that the military needs a program that works to determine if an individual is well-suited to military life or not. Clearly, Ike wasn't and I'm not remotely surprised. He's a lot like me in that way... we don't belong in the military. I think it should've been fairly obvious to anyone who observed him that he wasn't the type to lead that sort of life.

So why was he allowed to continue? I find it distressing that there isn't a better system in place to prevent things like this from happening. Had he been a civilian, he would have never been arrested, his computer would've never been searched and there would be no problem for him or for anyone else.

Eh well, nothing I can do about it. Maybe President Obama will sign new standards into law to ensure that no one enters the military who isn't well-suited for it.

Here's hoping.

this is probably the oldest thread that has been revived....

Sorry about the ancient thread revival. It's just not every day that you find a thread on a message board about your best friend that you barely hear from anymore. I just tried to call him after making that post and his numbers are out of service. I talked to him for a while about a month ago and everything seemed to be fine. He may have moved back in with family and I have no way of contacting them. :(
